Who else is sick of the teacher bashing threads on here?

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 20:48

I’m not even a school teacher and I’m sick and bored of it.

OP posts:
Katjolo · 12/04/2020 21:32

I was thinking the same. Constant moaning and groaning.

DaveDave · 12/04/2020 21:34

Not been on to notice, but my daughters school / teacher has been absolutely brilliant.

FredericcaPotter · 12/04/2020 21:40

Go away don’t use this thread to post your rants

Oh give over, OP. You sound really wet - what year/subject do you teach?

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 21:42

I am not a school teacher. You sound spiteful and bitchy.

Whatsername177 · 12/04/2020 21:43

I love my job. Teacher bashing slides right off my back. For most parents, there kids are the most important thing in the world and they react emotionally. So, if someone comes on here and rants away about an issue, gets told they abu and gains some perspective before they go in and yell at a teacher, then I think that is a good thing.
Everyone thinks they know what my job entails, but like all jobs, unless you do it, you dont. So when people start bashing teachers I try and tell them truthfully from an insider perspective. If they choose not to listen I tend to shrug and move on.

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 21:44

The resident teacher bashers on here don't need any encouragement to put the boot in. It's tiresome.

This. But what can be done about it? Aren’t teachers welcome on MN?

OP posts:
PinkiOcelot · 12/04/2020 21:45

@Oakmaiden very true.

FredericcaPotter · 12/04/2020 21:59

I don't know why you started this thread, OP, as you're not a teacher but are ridiculously invested in defending teachers. Maybe time you had a break from MN and looked after yourself.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 12/04/2020 22:09

But some teachers are great and some aren’t, some parents are judgemental bores and some aren’t. Problem with threads is OPs writing about teachers as one homogeneous group when they aren’t.

I’ve got two experiences of this home schooling lark - DC1 school who have put something together with bits of work and explanations for parents (probably max 2 hours a day) kept in touch, asked for and shared photos and head writing weekly newsletters. All good with me, am happy for play and then to enjoy this time as well.

DC2 school though just sent a load of links around and that was it, no direction no support. One letter from head two weeks after school shut, a email having a go at parents who wanted a key worker place and only opening 9-3.30 for key workers.

But that’s my opinion - I’m sure some parents at DC1 aren’t happy as not enough!

crazycatgal · 12/04/2020 22:10

Someone started a very similar thread last night and all the teacher bashers descended.

Rainuntilseptember15 · 12/04/2020 22:13

Thanks for trying OP but it won't work.

FredericcaPotter · 12/04/2020 22:23

I don't see teacher bashing. I see people asking questions and Offended Teachers barging into the thread to demand posters STOP BASHING TEACHERS!

And then there are those teachers who talk about how they are risking their own lives to be on a rota to look after key workers' children a couple of days a week. I just can't imagine any of DC's teachers being so precious and lacking in resilience.

JimmyGrimble · 12/04/2020 22:28

fredericca potter
All the resilience in the world isn’t going to stop a teacher taking the virus home to their own family though is it? Most teachers are doing everything they can to help children and families during this time.

SallyLovesCheese · 12/04/2020 22:58

I often find the threads where the OP has a genuine gripe against a teacher interesting, as it gives me cause to think how I would respond in certain situations with a parent.

Yes, there are shit, whiny teachers, just like any profession.

We're not all like that though! It's teacher-bashing to me when people make generalisations about all teachers, when actually their concern is just with one or two (or a particular school).

Such a lot of the arguments on teacher threads could be avoided if people changed "teachers" for "my child's teacher" or similar. To be fair, some people do this. But many don't. It's "teachers aren't doing any work", "teachers are moaning" "you teachers think you're special".

Smile
Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 23:00

Rainuntilseptember15 You’re welcome you guys do an amazing job

OP posts:
silenceattheback · 12/04/2020 23:13

I start to read the threads and just think it's another useless fishwife parent who's exerting more effort bashing a teacher instead of getting off the internet and attending to their children.

Never mind that teachers are still going into school, looking after key workers children, whilst setting lessons for all their own classes, alongside looking after their own families. With little protection. But no, angry parent wants to rant because the resolution of the worksheet attached was not as crisp as she would have liked and the teacher didn't sign off her instructions with 'yours sincerely'

FredericcaPotter · 12/04/2020 23:15

OP - all teachers don't do an amazing job. Some are excellent, some good, some mediocre, some are rubbish. Stop sucking up to an entire profession.

Viviennemary · 12/04/2020 23:18

I'm already sick of threads complaining about teacher bashing threads. Should I start a new thread complaining about threads complaining about teacher bashing threads. Confused

MsTSwift · 12/04/2020 23:23

Exactly. Like most groups or professions most are fine a minority are excellent and a few are rubbish/lazy. Sucking up and saying “you do an amazing job” is as facile as saying they are all lazy gits in it for the hols.

Iateallthecookies000 · 12/04/2020 23:33

And here it begins... please do not use this thread to teacher bash. There are many others where you can do that. And yes I do believe they do an amazing job so please go away and stop being pests.

OP posts:
SachaStark · 12/04/2020 23:38

Having observed several threads over the last few days, it appears that we have reached a particularly nasty height of teacher “bashing” at present (which is interestingly bizarre, given the timing... when the kids have been on Easter holidays for the last fortnight, and shouldn’t have been doing any schoolwork anyway), though it seems to be at the persistence of a small minority of posters.

The conclusion I’ve drawn, admittedly from a very unscientific level of observation is that these people are either,

  1. Lacking in critical thinking and reading comprehension skills;

  2. Inconvenienced by the existence of their own children;

  3. Or both.

It’s an interesting phenomenon. It’s not what I might have predicted a few weeks ago when the schools closed. It’s certainly not what I’ve experienced in terms of feedback from my own students’ parents.

Thanks for the support though, OP.

Pericombobulations · 12/04/2020 23:42

I work in a school and the teachers I work with have much longer hours than I do. They are there before me and most stay after I get to leave. Teaching, marking, lesson planning, extra classes for GCSE & A Level.

I can honestly say I have never worked as hard as I do now, and I am admin, I worry how much they are working and take as much admin off them so they can concentrate more on the students.

WeAllHaveWings · 12/04/2020 23:44

Everyone, teachers and parents, need to remember teachers, schools, students and parents are not all single entities. Everyone should not be so defensive and also should not be so general when discussing perceived issues with teacher, schools, students or parents. Some schools, some teachers, some students and some parents sometimes aren't perfect and anyone should allowed to discuss issues openly to get input from other parents and teachers without being accused of teachers bashing on every thread. It is getting a bit boring.

Oakmaiden · 12/04/2020 23:47

And then there are those teachers who talk about how they are risking their own lives to be on a rota to look after key workers' children a couple of days a week. I just can't imagine any of DC's teachers being so precious and lacking in resilience.

Do you not find it interesting, though, that supermarket workers and delivery men are being hailed as "the new heroes" for keeping going despite the risks, while teachers are ridiculed for being concerned about the risks of interacting closely with numerous grotty children who have no concept of social distancing, and can't realistically be expected to distance? It is such a double standard.

FrippEnos · 12/04/2020 23:54

FredericcaPotter

Actually the threads generally start off ok, teachers and parents come on and give usually very similar advice.
The the idiots arrive with 'ring the head', 'demand to see the head', 'call OFSTED, the police'

and then complain when teachers say that this won't work.
And yes teachers respond back usually with the facts.

But the virus has seen levels of malice that is beyond the usual ignorance and fuckwittery.
