Couple doing the tango in finsbury park

I'm staying in. My family are staying in and elderly relatives really suffering with depression and loneliness but still following guidelines. I'm exercising by walking the dog early morning around the block. I.e streets close to my house. I don't need a park or a beach. I certainly dont need to dance the tango in finsbury park. AIBU to be disgusted in people and their clear disregard for others safety. I cant believe their behaviour.

Your kind of silliness is the reason why people will slither out of lockdown, OP.

Realise I should have shouted that PEOPLE WILL DIE if a couple decides to dance in a park, and they should STAY THE FUCK AT HOME

MouthBreathingRage · 12/04/2020 21:11

Dancing the tango in Finsbury Park is a bit showy offy. But it's no different from DH and I going for a walk this afternoon in the sunshine.

Do you and your husband do your walking exercise to a two-step routine whilst being papped by the local journo?

Maybe the OP has hit the wrong not here, but the couple in question are completely showing off for attention. All they needed to do to finish it off was say 'it's for the NHS' and they'd have the population salavating at their rhythmic feet.

SuperMumTum · 12/04/2020 21:11

This is just like the cycling thread. Someone is enjoying themselves whilst largely adhering to the rules so IT MUST BE BANNED. No one is allowed to do anything that brings them any joy. Just because this situation we are in is unimaginably awful for many many people it doesn't mean that we can't try and keep our spirits up. If my Grandpa was alive he and my Grandma would be dancing beautifully in their front garden right now.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 12/04/2020 21:12

I probably have lesser understanding because my exercise happens indoors, certainly not normally in my living room but it is what it’s just now!

Mine too. So I dont do my hobby outdoors. It would also mean mixing with other households. So a definite no no.

I just find the whole 'cant do a hobby' weird. Would depend on the hobby, I would have thought.

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:12

Cycling is a hobby, running is a hobby, dancing is a hobby, pilates is a hobby. Let's just have a bit of brightness in these tricky times, please.

lemontreebird · 12/04/2020 21:12

How wonderful. Thanks fof bringing it to my attention, @Mydogatemypurse. Smile

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 12/04/2020 21:13

With all the ridiculous so-called "facts" flying around I'm not surprised, Roussette.

I feel the same. :o

Quizeerascal · 12/04/2020 21:13

As others have said if they're from the same household, live within walking distance of the park and are not within 2 metres of anyone else (and don't have covid-19 symptoms) they're fine

TudorRoses · 12/04/2020 21:13

Oh don't be such a misery guts.

There is no set amount of time allowed for exercise, nor is there a list of allowable forms of exercise. Nor is there a ban on the exercise being enjoyable.

This couple probably brought some much-needed joy into not only their own lives, but to any people who were watching (from a distance obviously).

Shitsgettingcrazy · 12/04/2020 21:14

but the couple in question are completely showing off for attention.

So what if they are? People show off all the time. Including the competitive 'I am better at staying in than you.....we are now loving on dust and we havent even been in the garden for 4 weeks' posters.

Some people like to show off. Or maybe just maybe, they wanted to dance.

likeafishneedsabike · 12/04/2020 21:15

OP, I think you could be struggling with this situation and i don’t blame you for that. It’s easy to start taking out our frustrations on randoms like these, but honestly better if you try and focus on yourself and your immediate family.

h3av3n · 12/04/2020 21:15

What is there to be disgusted by...? You also leave the house and exercise, is the issue that they seem to be enjoying themselves?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/04/2020 21:15

Who cares if they're showing off? I'd do it too, if I knew how and if OH would ever be persuaded!

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 12/04/2020 21:15

OP you're just making up the law/guidelines....

You're wrong... This is completely within the guidelines

Oysterbabe · 12/04/2020 21:15

They're doing nothing wrong. A walk round the block is not sufficient exercise for most people.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 12/04/2020 21:16

Don't be such a dementor. Don't you ever dance around the kitchen?

It's lovely, I would have loved to see it.

bridgetreilly · 12/04/2020 21:16

Part of the reason exercise is permitted is to help maintain good mental health, as well as good physical health. Dance is EXCELLENT for both things.

Stop trying to police other people according to your own idiosyncratic interpretation of the rules.

Roussette · 12/04/2020 21:16

but the couple in question are completely showing off for attention

So bloody what. It's joyful. Maybe they just wanted to make themselves happy and in doing so, brought a smile to others' faces.

God, there's some miseries on MN. This is really really hard, but we have to take the joyous moments when we can.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 21:17

Bloody showoffs. Grin

primeexampleof · 12/04/2020 21:17

WHY SHOULDN'T THEY BE ALLOWED TO DANCE INSTEAD OF WALK?

QuacksInTheDark · 12/04/2020 21:18

So showing off spreads Corona now? Wow who knew?

h3av3n · 12/04/2020 21:18

Also I don't know why people think they're showing off just by doing something they enjoy... Not everyone has space to tango indoors, also it's nice weather. Assuming that it is attention seeking says A LOT about the way you think about things.

Cam77 · 12/04/2020 21:19

Surely it is actually better than walking/running as they are stationary in a small area and therefore not constantly passing/getting in the way of other people

bridgetreilly · 12/04/2020 21:21

Even if they were attention seeking (which I doubt, tbh) THAT IS NOT AGAINST THE GUIDELINES! People showing off is not, in fact, what spreads the virus. You can even do your permitted exercise wearing a T-Rex costume (yes, I've seen the photos), which is about as attention seeking as it gets. Or in a bikini, if that's what you want.

MouthBreathingRage · 12/04/2020 21:21

Some people like to show off.

Yup, they do. Generally though, no one likes a show off. I think people are desperate to tell others off on both sides of the argument.

I'm on the fence, whilst I don't think this couple did anything wrong in terms of quarantine, this 'look how quirky and/or talented we/our family/my kids are!!' showing off trend at the moment is tiresome. No one is allowed to say anything other than 'oh how beautiful and wondrous it is, the world isn't broken after all!!!' without being accused of being a 'misery guts' either.
