To think MN should drop the idea of a two-tier system?

AIBU is particularly infested with trolls, I think this will only make it worse.

The trolls will pay for the premium membership so that they don't get banned and non paying people that don't want to risk their privacy or can't afford it will suffer.

I agree OP.
Trolls will be willing to pay £5/mo for a captive site of victims that they cannot be banned from
MN is already very classist- this move will impact working class members the most. Might even say they picked such a rate specifically so as to limit MN to the well heeled.

Bflatmajorsharp · 12/04/2020 21:14

I don't like the idea of a two tier MN for lots of reasons.

I'd be happy to make a donation via Justgiving or some secure website that could be trusted with personal information.

PardonWhat · 12/04/2020 21:16

I think it’ll become even more cliquey.
I think if you got banned you’d just lose the subscription money from what I’ve read.
Not really worth the risk when the rules are ambiguous at the best of times!

YeahWhatevver · 12/04/2020 21:17

Another 99p and you're at Disney+ subscription

Not suggesting Disney+ is an alternative to MN but shows you there position they're pricing at.

Frankly crazy, it'll seriously damage the site, its content and I'm sure its popularity in the long term

BacklashStarts · 12/04/2020 21:19

They clearly said mods won’t have that info in front of them and that it won’t show to other users. Your post is misinformation.

LochJessMonster · 12/04/2020 21:20

Mums.chat looks like a low budget mumsnet.
All those saying it’s better because ‘no ads’ and ‘no trolls’ need to give it time!

CodenameVillanelle · 12/04/2020 21:20

It's not going to protect people from being banned

dukenez · 12/04/2020 21:21

Justine also said no one would be able to see the information of the people that paid, then backtracked after someone called her out and she then said just 5 people will see the personal details of people (address and name but not card numbers). I'm not sure you can really trust what they say..

Hannah021 · 12/04/2020 21:22

What's two tier system, what am i missing Shock?

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2020 21:22

I won't be subscribing due to having doubts about the safety of payments.

But ..... The trolls will pay for the premium membership so that they don't get banned and non paying people that don't want to risk their privacy or can't afford it will suffer.

The trolls will still get banned according to Justine. Although I do wonder whether they'll be able to push the boundaries much further, if they've paid for the whole year. I imagine MNHQ will be reluctant to refund them.

OhioOhioOhio · 12/04/2020 21:23

Is mum's.chat totally independent of mums net?

Greysparkles · 12/04/2020 21:23

After the myriad of security breaches on here I wouldn't trust this shower with my bank details!

dukenez · 12/04/2020 21:25

But how can you ban the trolls / people here just to cause upset without refunding their money? It's going to be messy

bruffin · 12/04/2020 21:26

Mn is not good at spotting trolls , they rely on us to report them.

raviolidreaming · 12/04/2020 21:27

Troll posts, and the ludicrous amount of opinion / conjecture stated as facts and left to stand are the reason I couldn't pay - even if it wasn't so overpriced.

Oysterbabe · 12/04/2020 21:27

£5 a month seems like a lot for a website. I'd never pay that.

grey they wont have bank details, just address and phone number details

ginandcv · 12/04/2020 21:32

I've just looked at mums chat. I'm sure they're in breach of copyright. It looks identical to mn.

People will start trolling it as soon as they get wind of it.

londonrach · 12/04/2020 21:33

Whats mums c hat?

gamerchick · 12/04/2020 21:33

I don't mind paying, I just dont understand how it will work. I mean, we're not customers. We're the equivalent of battery hens.. the product. Is it just like an upgrade to free range where we think we have more freedom or are we being bumped up to being a customer?

I have no problem supporting something I use a lot, I'm just confused. Not that that takes much Grin

SharpieInThe · 12/04/2020 21:36

But we're getting an edit button!

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 21:37

The trolls will pay for the premium membership so that they don't get banned and non paying people that don't want to risk their privacy or can't afford it will suffer

Justine said if people were being an arse (her words not mine) then it would make no difference if you had paid and that if you were worried about losing money if you were likely to get a ban then you should pay each month and not annually.

DrDreReturns · 12/04/2020 21:59

Why are they doing this? Are they losing advertising revenue?
