To think that Ross Kemp shouldn't be filming at MK Hospital?

Ross Kemp is currently filming a Corona Virus documentary at the ICU of MIlton Keynes Hospital.
Considering that dying patients can't see family, AIBU to think that this is an outrageous decision?

I can't imagine what this poor man is feeling. I'd be furious if I were him.

@missingmydad

It’s nothing to do with saying we need happiness.

I thought it was a pretty straight forward metaphor. I’m sorry if it upset you.

Alsohuman · 11/04/2020 20:47

What poor man?

nellythenarwhal · 11/04/2020 20:52

I was ready to say YANBU, but thinking about it some more, I don't see how it's worse than those war reporters who film children dying in foreign countries we've invaded. This is just literally closer to home.

I didn't think of it like that but you're right. Sad

@TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum Britain's hardest virus 😂😂 brilliant

saraclara · 11/04/2020 20:54

I think the link that OP posted earlier answers a lot of the questions that people are asking. After reading it, I think I've changed my mind. It's probably good that we all see exactly what this virus is meaning on the front line. Only two people the front man and one cameraman are in the clinical area of ICU when filming takes place.

Here's the link again

Sky news filmed in an Italian ICU, talking in hushed tones about how awful it is there. They seem to repeat this show every day. Our daily death toll yesterday was larger than any day in Italy yet we've not seen inside any ICUs here and we're focusing on Boris sitting up in bed playing sudoku, and his fiance sending baby scan pics to his hospital bed (I get the feeling he's seen lots of baby scan pics and doesn't seem the most paternal).

I think this needs to be shown. But only if it shows the truth

Justmuddlingalong · 11/04/2020 21:00

From the MKUH website Where filming takes place in clinical areas, the crew is kept to a maximum of two (including the presenter).
So he's not actually a journalist?

missingmydad · 11/04/2020 21:01

@PegasusReturns Thanks..I probably over-reacted as my Dad died in ICU not so long ago.

Alsohuman · 11/04/2020 21:03

Right, let’s quibble over terminology, shall we? Presenter. Journalist. What’s it matter?

JemSynergy · 11/04/2020 21:07

I don't agree with him filming, there is currently already a programme about ICU on BBC iplayer filmed last year. Just by watching that I can grasp what it must be like at the moment.

Namechangervaver · 11/04/2020 21:11

In the FAQs it says the film crew are replacing any PPE used. I'm really interested to know how. We still haven't received any PPE and Priti Patel has admitted the government are struggling to get hold of it. Where is Ross Kemp getting his from, please?Confused

bevelino · 11/04/2020 21:12

I am fed up with Hancock saying on the news there is enough PPE, then a minute later In the same broadcast the NHS saying there isn’t. I would like Ross Kemp to get to the truth of it all.

Alsohuman · 11/04/2020 21:14

Just by watching that I can grasp what it must be like at the moment

You really can’t. ITU now bears no relation to the way it is now.

Alsohuman · 11/04/2020 21:15

ITU now bears no relation to the way it is now

ITU in normal times bears no relation to how it is now.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 11/04/2020 21:16

This is a total violation of patient dignity at a time when they are dying alone as their very loved ones are not permitted to visit them. Patients in ICU who cannot consent should NEVER be used as some kind of fucking guinea pig instruction manual for people too fucking thick to realise the 'seriousness' of the situation, or as a shock tactic, or propaganda. EVER. Those people are someone's child, parent, spouse. Can't imagine ever, myself having had a child in ICU, thinking, 'Yeah, let some random celeb journo or whoever in there with a load of cameras, taking PPE that people are working without, because like, people need to SEE this!' It's ghoulish, tourist bullshit and sickening AF. Fucking unbelievable.

DingoDing · 11/04/2020 21:17

@AlternativePerspective
BBC Studios were actually talking to the NHS to offer their medical kit in the middle of March.
I would imagine they have ventilators on set because it's cheaper to buy real ones than to have fake ones made by a props team.

blossompie · 11/04/2020 21:17

YANBU

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 21:17

This is appalling.

Justmuddlingalong · 11/04/2020 21:18

Journalists and presenters are not of the same ilk. Not by a long chalk.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 11/04/2020 21:20

Wow! I'll watch this and peep at dying people whose families are barred from seeing them to 'learn' something. Just, fucking hell. Off the fucking hook.

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/04/2020 21:27

MK Hospitals is one of the few that are doing this properly. They haven’t cancelled many other ‘non-essential’ appointments for Coronavirus so I hope he shows this to shame hospitals that have.

OlaEliza · 11/04/2020 21:34

YANBU. We do not need Britain's Hardest Viruses to be made at this current time.

If it makes covidiots see the reality, and take it seriously, we do.

Shrubbish · 11/04/2020 21:45

Thursday at 8.30 for those asking.
