I’m disgusted with Mr Hancock and our Govt.’s stance on there being no “likely” direct link to COVID19 deaths and lack of PPE.

They’re clearly shitting themselves at the prospect of having NOT shifted themselves soon and reacted by trying to get the equipment necessary to protect those in the frontline. As a retired nurse I’m f***g furious on my colleagues behalf.

Typical Tory “run away!” reaction.

AIBU to think that when this is over, political heads should roll? That under no circumstances should the “heroes” of this debacle, end up sitting in the Lords?

I could not agree more. Especially @marmitepasta

TwentyViginti · 11/04/2020 14:34

"Take it on the chin" said Boris.

Spirali · 11/04/2020 14:35

I agree with you OP!

PositiveVibez · 11/04/2020 14:35

Agree with you 100% OP.

The clapping and the thanking of the NHS workers, by top Tory members of parliament absolutely turns my fucking stomach.

BeardyButton · 11/04/2020 14:36

The people clapping elected this gov, with the full knowledge that they had underfunded health and ed, dismantled much of the wefare system and given full freedom to the gig economy. Political choices coming home to roost now, esp in UK and US. Im with you OP, virtue signalling while voting for own swlf interests. Vomit!!!!

baroqueandblue · 11/04/2020 14:37

@ExD1938 the same way previous governents have established war efforts - responding immediately by drafting other manufacturers in who can focus on producing plenty of what's needed, quickly.

This lot, as ever, are playing their own little games instead of taking care of the people they use to make them look good Angry

OP, you are definitely NBU. It's a fucking disgrace and sadly completely typical of these cunts in power. Shits, the lot of them.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 11/04/2020 14:37

@IVflytrap... beautifully put. It’s so terribly sad.

ThrowingGoodAfterBad · 11/04/2020 14:38

I get you (I think) and totally agree. There have been warnings about potential pandemics for years, and PPE isn’t something that would be hard to build up stocks of. For them to be clapping as they have downgraded, underfunded and actually attacked the NHS for years in favour of their privatisation ideology, must be a real kicker.

I did wonder if we should have some kind of memorial thread for all the NHS workers who are our frontline army here.

Thank you for all you do.

Magic2020 · 11/04/2020 14:38

PPE has been a disgrace in the hospital I work at too OP - to the extent that a local group has been set up with anyone who has a 3D printer to print it off for them, and sewing groups are sewing scrubs and caps for front line staff who can't get them. All while politicians are saying it's all under control.

affor · 11/04/2020 14:40

never mind that... where’s the PPE?!”

There is a global shortage of PPE. What would you like them to do?

SmallMediumLarge · 11/04/2020 14:41

It's a tactic that governments have used for decades - take the thing that could threaten it, embrace it and make themselves part of the feel-good factor.

I suppose another way to go about this could be to take it away from something that promotes the government but to use it as a protest platform - clap but hold up signs campaigning for PPE for front line workers - in the NHS - but also in care homes where deaths are going underreported.

BeetrootRocks · 11/04/2020 14:41

I want them to be honest and straightforward about it. If most PPE is made overseas then we will have terrible obtaining it. Not the governments fault. Just be honest.

Rather than saying oh everything is fine and clapping.

anothernotherone · 11/04/2020 14:42

I find it strange that people are so puritanical about not letting children play outside in the morning because they might disturb shift workers sleeping, and then they go and bang pots and make a racket outside at 8pm, when shift workers who have to be at work by 5:30am might also be sleeping.

I work shifts in healthcare and think the clapping and pot banging is very silly and counterproductive indeed. Luckily I live in a country where it hasn't taken off.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 11/04/2020 14:43

I think that instead of clapping what we need is to stay the fuck at home and keep social distancing, that’s more helpful than the clapping.

FartyBumCheeks · 11/04/2020 14:44

OP, as an ex ITU nurse I absolutely agree. Beardybutton, you have expressed perfectly the reasons for my stomach turning when the virtue signaling, political distraction clapping bullshit starts up. Particularly when some tit self taught trumpeter started blasting out 'we are the champions'. Fuck this 'war time spirit' rhetoric we are supposed to buy into. This isn't a war, it is a pandemic. Massive difference.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 11/04/2020 14:46

@baroqueandblue... thank you for your apt use of “the C word”. I couldn’t bring myself to write it on a public forum but your courage has inspired me! 😂😂😂. They are indeed, a bunch of cunts. And if I hear Mr Johnson say one more time “we have to thank our fantastic NHS staff”... no shit, Boris.

@BeardyButton... indeed. They’ve “saved” the banks and the FatCat bonuses. Protected their own investments. Stripped social care and health provision to the bare bones. Given us Brexit. Put us into bed with Trump... the greatest FuckWit of all time. And... WE asked for it. WE voted for it! 😂. It’s like something out of Armando Iannucci sitcom.

We had a delivery of ppe last week.
Lovely.
Expiry date 2016.
But it’s ok, someone stuck a sticker over this saying expiry 2019 instead.

From DOH, NHSE.
They don’t give a flying fuck about a single one of us. Not a fuck.

Nurses have taken pictures of this to be used as evidence in the future if/when they die because they are forced into wearing this.

That’s the governments provision of ppe that they are harping on about.

Previous masks were 100% fail on fit testing. Got thousands of those too.
Conveniently the Trust ran out of fit testing kits so the next batch that arrived could not be tested.

Not a single fuck given.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 11/04/2020 14:47

And yes... it is a war won’t be won on spirit and strength of character, it is is a bloody lottery. Though luck if you had the wrong genetics, an underlying condition or an infected person walking right behind you.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 11/04/2020 14:47

If it's any consolation, @TheLadyAnneNeville, I understand you completely. Coincidentally, I've just watched in wonderment a video, from my university city, of the staff of the BRI clapping for the NHS on Thursday evening, and wondered WTAF that was about. (I live in complete lockdown in a country far, far, away.)

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 11/04/2020 14:48

Surely its enough to be trying to stay united and safe without apportioning blame.? There will be time enough for that later ...Everyone is trying to deal with this blind...no one has a clue what to do and how we got here ,no stratergy could ever have been formed to deal with this horrific pandemic...now is not the time for blame.

GabsAlot · 11/04/2020 14:48

Completely agree stnading outside number 10 and matt hancock out on his balcony clapping away saying how wonderful the nhs workers are

stop clapping you hypocritical bastards

affor · 11/04/2020 14:48

I want them to be honest and straightforward about it. If most PPE is made overseas then we will have terrible obtaining it. Not the governments fault. Just be honest.

You mean like they did in the press briefings this week? When they explained the global shortage and the fact that some countries are now refusing to export any PPE which is affecting the whole market?

I'm so far from being a Tory but it is much easier to sit at home and think you could do a better job than government. In which case I wish people would run for office and make the difference.

wildcherries · 11/04/2020 14:50

I'm with you on this one, @TheLadyAnneNeville

morecoffeerequired · 11/04/2020 14:52

I'm saying let's get angry

And what possible good would that do for anyone right now? Being angry isn't going to magic up supplies out of thin air. There is a global shortage of PPE in case you hadn't noticed, and has been for months (I work in that supply chain).
Some countries manufacture the stuff and other countries import it. The countries who manufacture it are obviously keeping as much of it as they can for their own use.

If it was available, we would have it. But you cannot buy stuff that isn't there.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 11/04/2020 14:53

Didn't he also make out that the shortage is down to the public too? Like me going to Tesco wearing a mask I found in the cellar with all the decorating stuff from 10 years ago is causing a shortage for the NHS?
