I've seen loads of posts about not buying anything online etc...and I would feel bad as postal services etc are put in danger, strain etc..But my 13 year old sons feet have grown suddenly and fast , he only had one pair of shoes out of school and they dont fit him at all, dh too small for him too!! Will I be frowned upon by the local postman if I order some online? He obviously needs shoes, for in the garden and we would like to go for a daily walk.

GoldenPlatitudes · 11/04/2020 11:51

This is the fucking funniest thread ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mind you, my lazy arse 14 year old DD doesn't need shoes at the moment, it's a task and a half tryi g to get her arse off the couch every day, never mind venture outdoors

Snugglepumpkin · 11/04/2020 11:54

I just ordered some summer shoes for my son yesterday from JL because we normally go & buy them just before the Easter Holidays & he's grown out of his winter shoes.

Footwear is essential even if you are only going in the garden.

LabStaff · 11/04/2020 11:54

I haven't RTFT, but I think that Clark's have an app for measuring shoe size at home.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/04/2020 12:00

That prize goes to the person who suggested cutting up an adult fleece to make clothes for an 18m old instead of online ordering some clothes

WTF???? That's right up there with the poster who said people shouldn't be out in their gardens enjoying themselves, they should be sat inside in solemn respectful reflection because of sick people. ODFOD.

ilovecakeandwine · 11/04/2020 12:00

I was a bit umm regarding shopping online but I've caved and ordered some ballet pumps to wear round the house and some workout leggings , although the delivery date is by 22 April so mustn't be that many working . If this lockdown going on for longer then we think then will need to online shop especially as weather getting warmer .

Matildathehun77 · 11/04/2020 12:03

I think flip flops from the supermarket is the better idea. Maybe use this as a good moment to experience bare foot running as well? There is really very little need for shoes right now!

GrinGrin the essentials police are going bonkers!!

Op buy the shoes, shoes are essential, maybe get trainers or a repeat of the brand he has now to avoid a return, but don't panic, I'm fairly sure the govt don't intend for us to be barefoot and naked by the end of the lockdown.

TeacupDrama · 11/04/2020 12:04

the post office is not refusing parcels

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 11/04/2020 12:06

Flip flops or bare feet? Do some of you realise this nice weather is only here for another day?
Mumsnet has gone bonkers.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/04/2020 12:09

I swear this place gets crazier by the day. We're still allowed to leave the house for exercise, to go in gardens, to go and buy food etc. That requires wearing shoes. And indeed walking over your gravel driveway should you have one.

It's not bloody flip flop weather here, let alone barefoot running...

TeacupDrama · 11/04/2020 12:11

some elderly people don't have internet and some like my father are quite deaf so phoning isn't the best option but we can write letters send birthday/easter or whatever cards

online business / shopping is being encouraged to make businesses with their physical shops forced to shut remain economically viable

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/04/2020 12:25

I had to get a pair for DD as she tripped and ripped the sole off hers, not even gorilla glue could fix them! Asda have them if you are near one with a clothes section and then combine it with your food shop, or Tu at Sainsburys, and then if you need to return them you can do that the next time you go.

ilovecakeandwine · 11/04/2020 12:26

There is really very little need for shoes right now!
There is always someone who needs to go that 1 step too far . Next will be saying we don't need to wear clothes just put a bin bag over us to conceal our modesty . Grin

Enchantmentz · 11/04/2020 12:36

Schuh have 365 day return op, I bought my dd shoes online this week for the same reason. She hasn't got typical feet where you can just go the next size up. Shoe shopping for her is tedious as most shoes don't fit one way or another. I ordered a clarks foot measure in advance of the lockdown but their online calculator doesn't work.Hmm so, went with guessing on regular uk fit shoes.shoes came one trainer doesn't fit. Can't face sending them back or buying more shoes as it is still a gamble. Currently stretching the shoes to make them fit.

Shoes are essential, ordering 10 pairs would be taking the mick but two pairs of functional shoes is fine imo.

Purity spirals galore.

Bluecattt · 11/04/2020 13:26

Oh ffs!
If something is essential for someone then he needs to get it no matter what it is!
If I find a bottle of wine or LV bag very essential for my emotional survival this shitty time and living with my DH than the bottle of wine or a new bag is the thing I will get.
Everyone finds their essentials differently.
For someone it’s only a bread a water but for someone it could be a tub of a paint to take a anxious mind of this horrible stressed time!

feelingverylazytoday · 11/04/2020 13:33

My daughter needs new shoes, I will (hopefully) be buying them from Sainsburys on Tuesday, when I do my next shop.
OP many supermarkets sell actual shoes now, no need for flip flops.

PotholeParadise · 11/04/2020 16:07

Purity spirals galore.

The things people are advocating now as a measure against coronavirus would normally be called neglect.

In the times B(efore) C(oronavirus), saying you were going to hold off on buying your teenage son new shoes and just buy him flip-flops for the summer would have had you hung, drawn and quartered.

I've seen people saying that single parents should leave their young children in the car while they do a fortnight's shop in the supermarket. How long is that going to take? Looks like years of safety campaigning about dogs and children dying in hot cars has just been jettisoned so people can be self-righteous about only going to the shops on their own!

Likethebattle · 11/04/2020 19:28

@2020changedtheworld not everywhere is hot and sunny. We are in Scotland and it was 3c this morning and got to 15c it was raining yesterday so shoes are essential 🙄

Floatyboat · 11/04/2020 23:38

Person A asks a question.
Person B replies to the question and gives helpful suggestions
Person C,D,E and F jump on person B and give irrelevant information about their own lives/graven/weather thinking it disproves the suggestion made as having any use whatsoever.

Just because it's raining where you live doesn't mean it rains where everyone lives! Typical Mumsnet and no critical thinking.

PickAChew · 11/04/2020 23:40

Shoes are essential. Just check out amazon, for now.

PickAChew · 11/04/2020 23:45

And for posting on this, I get rewarded with this Confused

Clothing/shpes unnecessary but teenager grown out of shoes. Where to buy?
bellsbuss · 11/04/2020 23:56

I can't stop laughing at some of the responses, I'm doing a rather large wine and Prosecco order from M and S so I wouldn't worry about ordering shoes OP.

StatisticallyChallenged · 12/04/2020 00:03

Typical Mumsnet and no critical thinking.

Says the person advocating a child wears flip flops or goes barefoot outdoors for weeks on end...

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/04/2020 00:09

Clarks and Clarks outlet are bombarding me with ads and discounts
www.clarksoutlet.co.uk/boys
there's a 20% discount code of EASTER20 and free delivery

Tolleshunt · 12/04/2020 00:18

This thread has cheered me up no end. It should be in Classics. I literally corpsed when I saw which poster had opined that others should deploy ‘critical thinking’ 🤣

OP, order him some shoes and don’t feel guilty. He’s grown out of what he has, and so they’re a necessity.
