I've seen loads of posts about not buying anything online etc...and I would feel bad as postal services etc are put in danger, strain etc..But my 13 year old sons feet have grown suddenly and fast , he only had one pair of shoes out of school and they dont fit him at all, dh too small for him too!! Will I be frowned upon by the local postman if I order some online? He obviously needs shoes, for in the garden and we would like to go for a daily walk.

@2020changedtheworld
Yes you are. 10 degrees and raining Scotland!

Floatyboat · 11/04/2020 10:19

I think flip flops from the supermarket is the better idea. Maybe use this as a good moment to experience bare foot running as well? There is really very little need for shoes right now!

wowjustwowyes17262 · 11/04/2020 10:20

Most places don’t deliver using the post office, they use Hermes or similar.
If you need to return them it would be through the same.
I’ve ordered clothes for my daughter... she 7 months and growing daily so to speak and she needs clothes. Therefore it’s a necessity.

wowjustwowyes17262 · 11/04/2020 10:21

Also most places have 90/100 day return period

Frouby · 11/04/2020 10:22

Yeah cos NHS needs to spend more ti.e dealing with an infected cut from someone running barefoot.

Just order them online. I ordered ds a pair from JD last week.

Queenoftheashes · 11/04/2020 10:23

You can’t live in flip flops; there is no support and issues can develop. He is probably ok as a youngster but still just buy some shoes; they are an essential purchase unless he’s bed bound.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 11/04/2020 10:24

There is really very little need for shoes right now!

We have a 40ft gravel driveway which is the only way of getting in/out of our front. No way I am going barefoot.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 11/04/2020 10:24

Very little need for shoes? Good lord.

OP its fine. I had to order a new pair of trainers as I only had one pair and they were wearing out and very painful to walk in (I don't any any others I can wear, before anybody jumps on me) . Sports Direct are open, mine should be delivered today.

If DD needed new shoes I wouldn't hesitate in ordering them. They're an essential item.

Standrewsschool · 11/04/2020 10:26

M and m direct have quite a good range of shoes, trainers, clothes etc.

IndecentFeminist · 11/04/2020 10:26

Fuck me, just order him some shoes. The virtue signalling hand wringing on here is insane.

velocitygirl7 · 11/04/2020 10:27

@2020changedtheworld I've bloody read some total shite on here since we've been in lockdown but hurray, you win!!!
Flip flops, yep excellent idea. Just what my 14 year old needs when he's trying to keep active by playing footie in the back garden Hmm
Op, my ds has gone up a full size in the last few weeks, I've ordered him some trainers online and will socially distance etc when they arrive. We've had the odd gift delivered and couriers are signing for you and standing well back from the door etc

Floatyboat · 11/04/2020 10:29

Well given we are meant to be STAYING AT HOME you should not have to walk over the 40ft gravel drive very often.

2020changedtheworld · 11/04/2020 10:29

He doesnt need to live in flip flops, he needs something to sit in the garden with & go for a walk once a day outside the house for a few more weeks.

Who on earth wants socks & shoes on? its absolutely baking here.

I dont wear any shoes indoors though, so maybe Im the one who has the shoe problem Grin

DelphiniumBlue · 11/04/2020 10:29

Shoes are essential. There are online guides to measuring accurately for size, and you can get trainers or something fairly flexible in a brand that he's had before, so you know they work for his foot shape.
Go cheap - I know from experience that they can grow more than 2 sizes in a year.

WhenItIsOver · 11/04/2020 10:29

Waiting for someone to say that along with milk, bread and cucumbers, shoes are not essential and you should cut the toes out to make room for his feet if he really must wear shoes.

velocitygirl7 · 11/04/2020 10:30

@Floatyboat yippee we have a runner up!
'Bare foot running' ffs.
Where exactly? In my small garden? I think he's probably best sticking to footie practice thanks Hmm

2020changedtheworld · 11/04/2020 10:31

velocitygirl7 Football boots are your best best bet for that.

IndecentFeminist · 11/04/2020 10:32

Pmsl. Of course, no-one needs to go to work, or to the shops, or for a walk...all the things we are absolutely allowed to do. 😂

velocitygirl7 · 11/04/2020 10:33

Exactly, so what I've actually got him are some footie shoes, the type that they wear on the all weather court at school.
We sadly don't have a lot of grass, hence my massive eye rolling at the ridiculous bare foot running comment!!!

Queenoftheashes · 11/04/2020 10:33

@WhenItIsOver yeah perhaps a couple of tesco bags and an elastic band would do? And it’s recycling!

velocitygirl7 · 11/04/2020 10:34

@IndecentFeminist exactly! I work in a school, can't wait to work to walk in the rain in my flip flops. Or maybe I can run barefoot all the way Wink

perniciousdot · 11/04/2020 10:36

Mumsnet has a lot to answer for.

Online shops have remained open. It's as simple as that. Order whatever you want.

GreenTulips · 11/04/2020 10:36

I think you need to look at the companies and how they are treating staff, two major retailers of trainers have forced workers into larger warehouses without any distancing.

Think before you buy.

ShowOfHands · 11/04/2020 10:36

I picked up a pair of trainers in Tesco whilst food shopping. They were for nearly 13yo dd whose feet have grown again (3 sizes bigger than me so nothing she could borrow even). She waited in the car and tried them on immediately in case I needed to swap for a bigger size.

And of course she needs shoes. She is going out walking, running, gardening etc.

StrongMama1989 · 11/04/2020 10:37

I am so confused. 1. Why would you need to return said shoes!? Even if they didn’t fit surely to god they’re not that expensive you have to return them? You’d just wait til they fit? 2. Why would you ask this question? I’ve ordered books off amazon .. if your child needs shoes why would you not order them? 3. I am confused totally confused, am I on another planet ?
