I've seen loads of posts about not buying anything online etc...and I would feel bad as postal services etc are put in danger, strain etc..But my 13 year old sons feet have grown suddenly and fast , he only had one pair of shoes out of school and they dont fit him at all, dh too small for him too!! Will I be frowned upon by the local postman if I order some online? He obviously needs shoes, for in the garden and we would like to go for a daily walk.

@2020changedtheworld I dont call 13C and drizzling baking or flipflops weather.
I've got my jeans, socks and a jumper on.

@Sheslikethewind007 order some trainers!

Jellycatfox · 11/04/2020 11:04

I just got some summer type for my child. He only has wellies as the trainers are now too small. So he has hurt his toe and big nail by going barefoot in the garden all the time. We also have lots of wasps (I stepped on one)!
But they will take forever to arrive as not a necessity
But if his nail gets infected...

I still don’t think this is the most stupid thread. That prize goes to the person who suggested cutting up an adult fleece to make clothes for an 18m old instead of online ordering some clothes but the no-need for shoes does come a close second for me.

sleepingpup · 11/04/2020 11:15

The online shops ARE open. Take your pick.
The POs are open.

Shoes are a basic requirement in most peoples lives. Just order the shoes and don't worry. I wouldn't give it another thought.

CaryStoppins · 11/04/2020 11:16

I just ordered some sandals and t-shirts online for my children without a second thought! They need clothes and shoes that fit.

I won't be returning anything though.

StrongMama1989 · 11/04/2020 11:17

I don’t get it tho cuz I am literally on benefits and am a carer and a mum to toddler twins and I can buy my kids some new shoes for 7 quid or whatever from primary or ASOS or whatever

Sally872 · 11/04/2020 11:17

Do you really need permission from mumsnet to order your child shoes when he has none?

TildaKauskumholm · 11/04/2020 11:18

I'd go with supermarket shoes if you don't want to risk queues at the post office for returns. Shoes are hit and miss when buying online.

IndecentFeminist · 11/04/2020 11:19

StrongMama1989 I am beginning to suspect that you are either a troll or not very bright. Or both.

Nearlyalmost50 · 11/04/2020 11:20

One of my children has grown a lot and so shoes and clothes don't fit, it's a teenager who is hugely self-conscious, so I've done one order - I don't know what else to do other than use the services which are still open.

BringMeSunshineInMyLife · 11/04/2020 11:21

I know Post Offices are getting mad with online returns, some even refusing them

Evidence of this?

lookingformybrain · 11/04/2020 11:22

You don't think buying new shoes for growing feet is necessary?

Of course it's necessary. Your child still has to walk and should do in shoes that fit correctly. It's for health reasons.

ambereeree · 11/04/2020 11:22

My preschool children need new shoes and I was going to make a post asking where to buy them. I think m&s sizes are similar to clarkes. Or was going to try amazon. I measured their feet myself.

CaryStoppins · 11/04/2020 11:23

None of the supermarkets where I am sell shoes. I'd have to go to a big town to find some.

vanillandhoney · 11/04/2020 11:23

Evidence of this?

I know lots of our local post offices are complaining about people coming in for "unnecessary services". I don't really think it's fair for them to decide what's essential - if they're open and providing a service then they should do so politely and professionally.

I do think a lot of businesses' attitudes at the moment may cost them in the long run.

ShowOfHands · 11/04/2020 11:23

@StrongMama1989 I get it. You can't possibly imagine that other people have different financial situations to you. Like I said, no point repeating myself.

PepePig · 11/04/2020 11:25

Just order online. Plenty of workers are at risk, I honestly don't see what makes delivery drivers so precious compared to NHS and retail staff who have more contact.

Bexi3 · 11/04/2020 11:27

Online retail is still open and encouraged and postal and delivery service will run as normal.

order them. we are supposed to socially distance, not to sit indoors all day. kids need exercise, now more than ever

nicky2512 · 11/04/2020 11:35

I have ordered shoes for 14 year old ds as his size 10 trainers no longer fit. He has seriously wide flat feet which sadly have never fitted into cheaper shoes. I have ordered the size up in a pair he already has to avoid the need to return.
His clothes are all getting a bit small too. They can wait but shoes that fit are a necessity.

Chillicheese123 · 11/04/2020 11:41

@Sheslikethewind007 there are fila and Mackenzie trainers on JD for £10-£20

skeemee · 11/04/2020 11:42

Just to say that Adidas online has 30% off and free delivery. Currently 100 days return so if they don’t fit, it gives more flexibility.

Sheslikethewind007 · 11/04/2020 11:47

Thank you everyone for kind comments. I'll ignore the others.

PLEASE CAN THIS POST BE CLOSED NOW!!

Thanks.

Yes order the trainers, he needs them, and it’s permitted. Also it’s not upto the post office what we can and can’t order online.
Can’t believe the suggestion to go running barefoot instead of ordering the shoes - hope that was tongue in cheek!
