I've seen loads of posts about not buying anything online etc...and I would feel bad as postal services etc are put in danger, strain etc..But my 13 year old sons feet have grown suddenly and fast , he only had one pair of shoes out of school and they dont fit him at all, dh too small for him too!! Will I be frowned upon by the local postman if I order some online? He obviously needs shoes, for in the garden and we would like to go for a daily walk.

If you can buy them then get them although maybe have a look at what’s on offer From the supermarket with your weekly shop.

Kids grow, they’re not going to be able to make do for months on end.

JuniperBeer · 11/04/2020 09:50

Dear god no.
If you're ordering a million parcels from ASOS and pretty little thing and sports direct every day maybe.

But a couple of pairs of trainers or shoes? Go ahead.

Cremebrule · 11/04/2020 09:51

Why is there so much handwringing about this? Online stores are open. Your child needs new shoes. There is no reason at all why you shouldn’t buy them

2020changedtheworld · 11/04/2020 09:51

Flip flops from the supermarket for now?

0nwardsAndUpwards · 11/04/2020 09:51

Order some online Smile

I've just had to order some clothes/shoes for DD. It's her birthday soon and usually she gets given them off family for that but obviously we won't be seeing anyone, and everything is too small.

Clothes and shoes that fit are necessary in my opinion, I didn't think twice about ordering.

Gatehouse77 · 11/04/2020 09:52

My definition of essential is what makes functioning at a basic level necessary. Shoes, in this country, are necessary so get them.

Tableclothing · 11/04/2020 09:52

Clothes and shoes absolutely can be essentials. You can't exactly leave your ds barefoot.

Dishwashersaurous · 11/04/2020 09:53

Shoes are essential
M&S is doing delivery

Chocolateandcarbs · 11/04/2020 09:54

I ordered my daughter some shoes click and collect to M&S food and combined it with a food shop. She’d had a growth spurt and nothing fit her, I didn’t feel bad about it - she needed shoes as the old ones suddenly cut her feet as she’d outgrown them.

Lexilooo · 11/04/2020 09:55

Shopping online is fine, buy the poor kid some shoes.

I can't believe some people are suggesting he should make do with supermarket flipflops!!

Sheslikethewind007 · 11/04/2020 09:59

Thanks everyone but I know Post Offices are getting mad with online returns, some even refusing them, I totally get it puts them in unessesary danger serving these people. Well, hopefully they'll fit. Will probably buy some cheapies to see him through, hes not fussy at all.

That you can get today for a fiver, to go for a once a day walk in the hot sun for the next few weeks.

Maybe I am too used to this cornish lifestyle Confused

Handbaghag · 11/04/2020 10:04

Even if you had to return them you are justified in buying these. And you can explain that to the post office.

Kastanien · 11/04/2020 10:05

Are post offices open as normal and would going to post a return if the shoes don't fit be considered an essential journey? Just asking as my DD has really weird shoe size and it often takes ages trying on about ten pairs of shoes before we find anything that fits properly, which is why we normally shop in a shoe shop. Sometimes it is not as simple as just ordering in your shoe size and the shoes will fit ok.

DrDreReturns · 11/04/2020 10:05

My dd needs new shoes. Thing is we don't know what size she is as her feet have grown! We'd normally take her to a shoe shop to get measured. She's going barefoot in the garden at the moment.

ZarkingBell · 11/04/2020 10:06

Shoes are a necessity so order without guilt.
As he won't be going back to school until September you could use the school shoes if they still fit. No need to keep them vaguely decent now!

Kastanien · 11/04/2020 10:06

Sorry cross post about the returns. So post offices are not happy to accept them?

MiddlesexGirl · 11/04/2020 10:08

Most stores have increased their return windows, eg. From 30 days to 100 days so you don't have to worry about returning the item just yet.

BikeRunSki · 11/04/2020 10:09

If you order from M&S you could return to store and combine with food shopping?!

abitoflight · 11/04/2020 10:10

Maybe order in the brands he already has to limit chances of having to return them

Sheslikethewind007 · 11/04/2020 10:12

They will accept them but its added strain on them, with extra people coming in. Remember they dont have PPE etc and not all post offices have screens anymore.

OP posts:
Sheslikethewind007 · 11/04/2020 10:13

Anyway, good to know what another poster said with regards to extending returns to 100days. That's helpful. To be honest, I'd rather not queue in a post office myself at the moment to return anything.

OP posts:
EndIsNigh · 11/04/2020 10:13

Zara, H & M, J D Sports all still delivering for online orders. Might be slower delivery and as other posters have said, they've all extended return periods.
You can order trainers from Amazon.

Umnoway · 11/04/2020 10:16

Online stores are open and keeping many people in work including postal workers. Postal workers aren’t in grave danger, they’re offering contactless delivery now. I’ve been ordering quite a lot of stuff online as have millions of people hence some websites having to install a queue system to access the website.

bluebeck · 11/04/2020 10:16

M & S have extended their returns period to 90 days so I would just order from there and have them delivered.
