If you want to bark ‘stay inside’ to me. Then yep, I can do that. But ‘stay safe’, well no I can’t. I have to go shopping, I have to accept my vulnerable DP working, those things put us at risk. So I can try to stay safe, if that’s your requirement, but otherwise I’m just shitting myself in the same way that most of us are.

I think it's lovely.

Blimey. I’ve used this as a sign off and I’m definitely not a twat. It’s meant with warmth as a way of showing that you care about the person and hope they’ll be ok. I’m fairly sure this is how it’s understood in context as well- although if anyone expressed annoyance, I’d stop using it.
Maybe save your playground insults for people who have actually done unpleasant things.
