To think that people who end messages with ‘stay safe’

Are twats?

Maybe it’s because DP is a key worker so doesn’t have the option to ‘stay safe’ but it gives me the rage.

I'm also a key worker. Am I not allowed to say it to others? Or are others not allowed to say it to me? Who holds the trump card in the stay safe game? 🙄

DurhamDurham · 11/04/2020 07:08

My daughter is a key worker, a nurse at a busy hospital in Newcastle, every single time we text or WhatsApp I finish by telling her to keep safe. What I mean is to keep as safe as possible given the fact that she's right in the middle of it.
All work emails and texts are also finished with that sentence too.

VivienScott · 11/04/2020 07:08

I say it to my OH as he’s on the frontline. I also have started saying “keep well” to people. I genuinely mean both to everyone I say it too.

PristineCondition · 11/04/2020 07:08

Meh im the key worker. Id find it odd if my partner took offence at something so trivial tbh

We are in the midst of a pandemic, its just something to say

Bluemascara4 · 11/04/2020 07:09

I say it , I mean it so must be a twat then Hmm

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 11/04/2020 07:09

I signed off an email with 'stay safe' yesterday. It was just meant to be a brief nod to the fact that were all in a shit situation at the moment. But thanks for letting me know that I'm a twat, OP. Always good to be told these things. hmm]

Whatisthepoint2020 · 11/04/2020 07:10

I think people should be using the words they actually mean and usually say and not some new phrase that on trend at the moment.

OP posts:
Powerplant · 11/04/2020 07:11

No - I always say it but then I’m a nurse, my daughter, step daughter and niece are nurses and I really want them to stay safe.

Powerplant · 11/04/2020 07:12

Oh and most of my friends are nurses too

Sirzy · 11/04/2020 07:12

But I do mean it. Why wouldn’t it?

As usual this week I have had lots of phone contact with people in health care related rolls sorting things for DS. Every one of them has had some form of “thank you, look after yourself” type message included and why wouldn’t it?

I think it’s quite bizzare that you think people wouldn’t mean they want people to stay safe to be honest!

Changeofname79 · 11/04/2020 07:12

But most people do actually mean it??

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/04/2020 07:12

I often say keep well. Don't know if that puts me in the twat category, but if so I'm fine with that.

Powerplant · 11/04/2020 07:14

It’s not a new phrase or on trend I have always said it to my children

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/04/2020 07:15

I can’t stand it either. Feels like a threat.

supercee · 11/04/2020 07:15

Since when was 'stay safe' a new phrase?!

Mothership4two · 11/04/2020 07:16

I say "hope you are keeping safe" to friends and family because I MEAN it.

Growingboys · 11/04/2020 07:16

YABU

I abhor all forms of tweeness but this is about showing you care.

KatherineJaneway · 11/04/2020 07:16

I just think people are saying it because it’s the ‘in’ thing to say & they don’t mean it

I mean it. So do all the people I know who use it.

Whatisthepoint2020 · 11/04/2020 07:17

I mean the phrase is a new trend not it’s a new phrase.

OP posts:
lovelydream · 11/04/2020 07:17

You're being precious

Sirzy · 11/04/2020 07:17

Threatening someone to stay safe? Wtf.

This place is strange at times!

Munchietime · 11/04/2020 07:18

I've been ending work emails with 'keep well' or 'stay safe' and am receiving emails with the same. I mean it and I assume that my clients and colleagues do too.

NewYearNewTwatName · 11/04/2020 07:19

Good news OP, They are selling grips buy one get one free!

I feel you probably need a couple.

AtrociousCircumstance · 11/04/2020 07:19

I think it’s a phrase which responds to this new situation we are in. It’s well intentioned.

supercee · 11/04/2020 07:21

People are saying it more because eh, there's a thing called a pandemic going on, so it's relevant.
