Thoughts on Joe Browns clothes?

Cannot sleep as my body clock seems to have broken.
Browsing online clothes stores and an advert has popped up for Joe Browns. Never bought from there before but the clothes look quirky, which I like.
Anyone got any opinions on it; the quality and value for money, etc?
Probably not an AIBU but please let me off, it's almost 2am...Grin

A school friend of mine had some lovely clothes from there. We were 16/17 and this was 2004/5.

I've never bought from there but having just been on the website for the first time in a few years I think they have some nice dresses. Tempted by a 50s style polka dot dress.

feelingdizzy · 11/04/2020 12:21

I have some of their wrap dresses for work, am a primary school HT in class 2 days week (usually)manage the comfort, smart slightly quirky not corporate look I like, and which suits my job.

I really like some of the clothes from JB. I've bought a few dresses and boots from there but I do steer clear of clothing with embellishments.

dayswithaY · 11/04/2020 23:55

Hideous, they all look like they smell of josticks and patchouli oil.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 11/04/2020 23:56

Ha ha! I love the descriptions and can identify with loads of them; drama teacher look, ex-goth and 90's army shirts particularly. I wear a lot of their stuff for weekend/casual wear but not for work wear. I'm mid forties if that helps but, honestly, if you like their stuff, then ignore the critics and go for it. I really love their matching shoes and bags, and I think they are reasonably priced given the quality.

Beldon · 11/04/2020 23:59

I keep ordering as they look fab in catalogues but they never fit well (apart from coats) and flimsy cheap fabric. Not worth the inflated price

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 12/04/2020 00:07

I have a beautiful winter coat from there, and a couple of summer tops, but find that the dresses, although pretty, don't suit my shape. My coat is amazing though, I get compliments on it all the time.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 12/04/2020 08:04

They have tried to copy what irregular choice did with the shoes and bags. Again very marmite but cheaper then IC if that's your thing

I like their stuff but would never pay full price for some of them like £200 for a jacket. They are very often on ebay for a fraction of the cost.

MeMeMeYou · 13/04/2020 20:33

Stuck in the 90s - sort of Phoebe from Friends crossed with Blossom crossed with crusty style with a bit of Miranda cat lady. Some of the dresses ok, but once ordered one and it was oddly big

gingganggooleywotsit · 13/04/2020 20:34

They used to be cool and good quality about 10 years ago but stuff I've bought from them in the last year or so has been a bit tacky and flimsy, they have really gone down hill. Just buy something and maybe return if not happy

Tanfastic · 13/04/2020 20:37

Not keen. I won a voucher for them on a social media comp a few months ago and to be honest I scoured the whole site and couldn't find anything I'd remotely wear. I ended up getting of plain tops. They are okay but I've not worn them yet. I just think the clothes look a little bit frumpy.

RozHuntleysStump · 13/04/2020 20:39

The quality is extremely poor.

onanothertrain · 13/04/2020 20:40

Frumpy and samey

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 13/04/2020 20:44

I'm a big fan, I love the little details. I get most of the stuff from the outlet as they are a great price. I get lots of compliments when I wear their stuff.

pictish · 13/04/2020 20:47

Poor quality unfortunately. Awful cheap fabric, terrible stitching. This is not reflected in the price of their clothes however, as Joe Browns are quite expensive.

EmmaBridgewater20 · 13/04/2020 20:48

No.

Order some Nytol. Save yourself!

nanbread · 13/04/2020 20:59

Ah, so now I know where people buy their garishly patterned tunics and asymmetric purple coats with too many buttons from. I always assumed they'd just looked after their 90s clothing really well.

Loveisland19 · 13/04/2020 21:08

I love Joe Browns, however I always avoid anything with material being joined to velvet or netting material. In my experience the stitches come undone and the joins tear.
They are a bit more expensive, but a lot of the clothing is really good quality and holds its value - you can resell on eBay for a decent price. With free returns it’s worth a try.
