Thoughts on Joe Browns clothes?

Midsommar · 11/04/2020 01:45

Cannot sleep as my body clock seems to have broken.
Browsing online clothes stores and an advert has popped up for Joe Browns. Never bought from there before but the clothes look quirky, which I like.
Anyone got any opinions on it; the quality and value for money, etc?
Probably not an AIBU but please let me off, it's almost 2am...Grin

Love them, especially the shoes. They hseva factory outlet store near Leeds if you're anywhere near there.

Crazyhouse123 · 11/04/2020 07:41

I think the dresses are very pretty but dont quite fit right making them look frumpy

This! There are some lovely bits (I love Joe Browns) but I always check and see how the clothes look on the models before ordering. The dresses always look lovely on their own but too often when you look at the picture on the model they are, as the pp said, a bit frumpy.
I have some really lovely bits from there though, it's not always cheap but it does last, washes without losing shape and because it is quirky doesn't go out of style!

Quality is variable, have bought some lovely things and then bought a cardigan and the material was really thin and horrible. Prices are much better from their outlet or catalogue sales. Also some items don't wash well.

@Whatwedontknow fairly elderly is approximately 15 years older than whatever age I currently am. 😂

catfeets · 11/04/2020 08:37

I find their sizing very small, especially if you have a larger bust.

LockdownLucy · 11/04/2020 08:58

The classic coats are lovely and odd bits can be nice. Agree buttons can fall off. I've a lovely hoodie with crinkly sleeves. Anything asymmetric with quirky pattern patches makes me think of older ladies and I'd agree comes down on side of frumpy. A bit like grown women who wear clumpy colourful childlike shoes with a T strap. Each to their own but ick *hides

Oldraver · 11/04/2020 09:01

Almost my whole wardrobe is Joe Browns so I love it.

Ive had a few items that I didnt think worth the money quality wise but the rest has been ok. I still think it expensive so try and buy in the sale

I thinkin the last year or so there has been a change to the fit (for the better)

Anthilda · 11/04/2020 09:05

Not keen on their designs, too frumpy looking for me. Agree they go overboard with patterns and embellishments.

Thymelord · 11/04/2020 09:06

Mostly find the clothes frumpy, but the odd thing that is wow such as the military style coats. I do love their shoes though, have lots of gorgeous pairs.

FenellaMaxwell · 11/04/2020 09:08

Frumpy and expensive.

Yellredder · 11/04/2020 09:08

Love a bit of JB, although not bought anything from there for ages. Sizes can be a bit hit and miss though!

Karwomannghia · 11/04/2020 09:10

Generally I find them a bit ott but I have a few things that I love. I got a coat that people rave about every time I wear it and a jumper I’ve had for years. Both have a Japanese style influence which I love. I also like some of their Victorian style stuff and have a halterneck swimsuit from the sale. Pricey but do have good sales.

Mammabee20 · 11/04/2020 09:12

I love love love them! My whole wardrobe is Joe Browns! I had a favourite tunic which lasted 2 pregnancies 😌

QuitMoaning · 11/04/2020 09:14

I have loved lots of their stuff for years but never taken the plunge as wary about quality and fit. I finally bought a coat a year ago and completely and utterly love it. It is a bit dressy and a sprint/autumn warmth level so don’t wear it often but it fits perfectly and is lovely quality.
It also came in a a box, beautifully wrapped in tissue paper which was a real treat for me.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 11/04/2020 09:17

Never got anything that fitted right. I have big boobs and smallish ribs. If my boobs fitted in the dress, it was baggy on my ribs.

If it fitted on the runs my boobs would fall out.

Bubblysqueak · 11/04/2020 09:19

Love shopping in their sales.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 11/04/2020 09:19

I have quite a few tops. They’re ok, but not the best quality. I really love some of their styles, but other things are not me at all. The problem I find is that a lot of items you have to wash at 30, which isn’t a problem in itself if they’re not that dirty, but I have to make sure I have enough for a machine load.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 11/04/2020 09:20

I love them. Mind you they went up in price a lot since I first purchased from them. I buy on sale and live the quirky designs!

Ohffs66 · 11/04/2020 09:20

Frumpy under the guise of 'quirky/amusing.' I work with someone in her 30s who buys a lot of stuff from there. She is not known for her cutting edge fashion sense.

SerenDippitty · 11/04/2020 09:20

I’ve bought a few things from there, only returned once because it just didn’t suit me - nothing to do with fit or quality. Some of it is a bit too fussy for my taste though.

Areyoufree · 11/04/2020 09:21

I agree that the quality and sizing can be variable. Have had some lovely stuff from there, and then some not so lovely stuff. Definitely style over substance at times.

AJPTaylor · 11/04/2020 09:21

I am too short/round/large of nork for any of their clothes but they look fab.

Rayagoldensun · 11/04/2020 09:23

Well I’m 60 this year and wouldn’t wear their stuff as it looks frumpy, dated and dull. I’m not the most stylish person around but no way would I wear JB. The word tunic is somehow so depressing.

Ineedabreak19 · 11/04/2020 09:25

Frumpy and very late 80's/90's style designs.

QueenietheCutie · 11/04/2020 09:44

I find a lot of it OTT but have a jacket and some shoes from them that I absolutely love. I was too big for their sizes for a long time but recently lost a lot of weight and so have enjoyed being able to choose a few things.
Quality seems good and sizing ok.
