Thoughts on Joe Browns clothes?

Midsommar · 11/04/2020 01:45

Cannot sleep as my body clock seems to have broken.
Browsing online clothes stores and an advert has popped up for Joe Browns. Never bought from there before but the clothes look quirky, which I like.
Anyone got any opinions on it; the quality and value for money, etc?
Probably not an AIBU but please let me off, it's almost 2am...Grin

I've looked at the but never ordered.

Not sure about the fit. Slim but bigger in chest area these days

Crystal87 · 11/04/2020 09:54

Some of the styles are frumpy and a bit eccentric.

Victoria1083 · 11/04/2020 09:56

Frumpy, dated and garish for my liking

Asuitablecat · 11/04/2020 10:03

Aimed at people who wore tie die dresses and.army shirts in.the 90s and who never quite left it behind. 16 yr old me would have loved it.Although the clothes are for shorter people.

Shoes are good though.

koshkatt · 11/04/2020 10:04

I always like the look of them but then when they are on they are cut rather badly and make me look like a frump.

I love Joe Browns and used to own a lot for work (worked somewhere that I got a huge discount on them and used it as uniform). I miss being able to buy what I like because they are pricey. The sale is usually pretty good, though.

transformandriseup · 11/04/2020 10:09

I used to wear a lot of the hippy style clothes they did in my teens but it's changed quite a lot now. I did buy an amazing pair of stretchy jeans from them once.

Handbaghag · 11/04/2020 10:10

If you see clothes you like, forget what people think. You should wear what you like, not to please people's opinion. I wish I'd had this attitude in my 20s. Now I don't care what people think, I like my wardrobe and that's what matters.

Weregoingonanadventure · 11/04/2020 10:13

I've only ever bought a couple of their dresses; you do need to look at the material used. Some are cotton but a lot of then are polyester so they look really nice but I wouldn't wear them. Ge the good one!
U di have 28 pairs of their shoes and some of the matching bags and I love them so can absolutely recommend the shoes!

BlackCatsRule88 · 11/04/2020 10:14

JB clothes always strike me as having one too many embellishments.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 11/04/2020 10:14

I love the style. The last dress I got out of there was poor quality though. It had thin material, those weird flaps that that you have to tuck in at the back of your neck because they aren’t sewn down and just a really cheap feel to it.

bluebeck · 11/04/2020 10:20

I like their stuff but am too busty to wear dresses or tops.

DD works in fashion and calls JB "Clothes for ageing drama teachers" Grin

StCharlotte · 11/04/2020 10:29

It's like they design something really nice but then add a superfluous design feature. I've loved some of their coats but they'll have tarty lacing down the back or a ruched hem or something. It's a shame, I'd buy from them if they could just rein it in. The need Coco Chanel before they leave the factory .

nevermorelenore · 11/04/2020 10:33

Ageing drama teachers is spot on, sorry JB fans! Most JB wearers I know are ex-goth types.

JB sort of reminds me of the weird upcycled clothes they sell in Etsy. Even as a plus sized woman I wouldn't wear those big billowy tunic things.

I will say that some of the vintage non-embellished coats are quite cute.

MayDayHelp · 11/04/2020 10:36

I find their stuff generally just doesn’t look that flattering on me (I’m 5’8” and a size 10)! Also the sizing is so random, some things come up true to size, some run small and some large.

SerenDippitty · 11/04/2020 10:37

Absolutely this.

Pericombobulations · 11/04/2020 10:38

As an aging goth type who still likes a bit of tie dye (didnt like Army clothes tho), I would be insulted but for the fact I also love Joe Browns. I love the eccentricity.

If you like the stuff buy it, if you dont, dont!

aquashiv · 11/04/2020 10:41

Yes I like some things jumpers etc. Great for retired ravers the tunic top and leggings look...

scaryreading · 11/04/2020 11:20

Not keen on tunic look but it looks great on some people

RubbishQueen · 11/04/2020 11:24

Well I'm an aging science teacher/ex raver so they sound well up my street! Off to goggle I go! 🤣

Peacenquiet2 · 11/04/2020 11:26

I have bought a few items at very discounted prices via a friend who works in sales. Have to say that had I not got them at the discount price I'd have been a little disappointed because they aren't that fantastic in quality that they deserve the high prices. Some items have been better than others too. However I have always found the sizing very good/generous, so you know you will actually get the size you order

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 11/04/2020 11:28

Love Joe Browns clothes. I have some really lovely dresses from them. DH gets some nice things from them but we find some of his t-shirts shrink after one wash.

Gorgeous coats too. Bought MIL a lovely coat for Xmas the other year from FIL.

Triggahippy · 11/04/2020 11:29

Quality variable. Size I find come up big. Agree with frumpy

Midsommar · 11/04/2020 11:33

Thanks all! Might check out the outlet, think there are items marked down in there Smile
