To be absolutely furious over this?

I'm really genuinely angry right now.

Just been out to take my dog our for his walk. I rent a private field behind my house for my exclusive use. It has a big wooden gate and is padlocked.

Went out tonight and there's a family with two big dogs in there. Car parked outside, music blaring. Dogs are running wild. Two 8-10 yo boys.

They'd cut my padlock off and basically taken over the place. There's rubbish all over. Looks like they'd dumped a couple of bin bags.

I lost it and told them to leave. They refused, and the dogs they had were getting upset so I walked away and I've just reported them to the police. Have their car details and some photos. The call handler didn't seem terribly impressed with their behaviour and apparently they're sending someone out for a chat.

I'm honestly shaking with anger. Why do people have to ruin stuff? It's going to take me hours tomorrow to get it back into usable condition and it's putting me at risk. ☹️☹️☹️

@ChandlerIsTheBestFriend that is amazing 😂

Cherrysoup · 10/04/2020 21:55

Get that muck trailer over the gateway quick just in case they are planning on sticking caravans on or something.

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2020 22:00

Honestly don't think they were travellers or anything like. Just fucking idiots out for a lark at someone else's expense

But driving round with enough rubbish that it's going to take all day to clean up??

QuestionableMouse · 10/04/2020 22:10

No idea about the gun.

People have been dumping rubbish all over because the recycling plant is closed. It's foul.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend that is amazing Grin

OP appalling, I’m glad they have gone. Hopefully the police did get there and speak to them so they won’t be back. I hope the farmer keeps it parked over the gate until there is a new lock.
They’ve gone, deep breath & relax. Fingers crossed they won’t be back

Winterlife · 10/04/2020 22:12

Are there fines for littering? Perhaps tell the police they left the land a mess and it will take some time to clean up all their garbage.

notacooldad · 10/04/2020 22:14

Can't believe they cut the padlock
I can!
Why on earth were they dragging bags of rubbish in there with them? confused were they there specifically fly tip do you think?
Of course they were fly tipping! I don't know about the rest of the country but the tips in Lancashire are shut so fly piping has already increased where I live.

Bloody hell, yes take photos of their car and everything, but I wouldn't have left them alone until they left
Well you're either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid. If there is more than one of them and they have already turned up with bolt cutters and refusing to go why on earth would you put yourself at risk of things turning ugly? If I knew the police were likely to turn out soon I may have gone to a safe place nearby but I certainly wouldn't be antagonising anyone. Especially if I already had evidence on camera.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 10/04/2020 22:18

Is it the time of year for slurry spreading? If they come back don’t let on you’ve seen them- call the farmer and tell him to hook up the slurry tank. Wink

AprilFloundering · 10/04/2020 22:19

Selfish, entitled arseholes who truly think 'fuck everybody else'.

I hope the police actually do something.

Cheeserton · 10/04/2020 22:20

Can you not press charges of some sort against them?

For the umpteenth time. You cannot 'press charges'. If the Police think any criminal acts have occurred then they will decide whether it's appropriate to arrest and then charges could result if their investigation results in sufficient evidence. Stop watching American TV.

CoraPirbright · 10/04/2020 22:21

Utter fuckers Angry

I hope you and the police press charges for criminal damage, fly tipping and trespass.

WinterCat · 10/04/2020 22:22

I doubt very much they turned up with equipment to cut through a decent padlock on the off chance of needing it, so I imagine you are right that they had been before and climbed over the gate. I wonder why they felt the need to go through the gate this time though.

Gwenhwyfar · 10/04/2020 22:24

"criminal damage, fly tipping and trespass."

I thought trespass with no damage was a civil matter rather than a criminal one. I've heard that those 'trespassers will be prosecuted' signs aren't right.

Jooosie · 10/04/2020 22:29

Oh for God sake, does it really matter in the grand scale of events ?..it’s a field ... someone’s in it ... nobody died

Thisismytimetoshine · 10/04/2020 22:30

Yes, it most assuredly does matter Confused

bridgetreilly · 10/04/2020 22:33

So, @Jooosie, you'd be happy with families of strangers turning up to picnic in your back garden, would you? With aggressive dogs and leaving lots of litter, as well as damaging your property?

No, thought not.

Gingerkittykat · 10/04/2020 22:34

Do you really think the police should be spending time running around charging people for breaking a padlock right now?

It is a shitty behaviour on their part but hardly top priority.

I don't know who you normally report fly-tipping to, maybe with emailing them but I'm not sure if they will be working right now.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 10/04/2020 22:34

Is it the time of year for slurry spreading? If they come back don’t let on you’ve seen them- call the farmer and tell him to hook up the slurry tank.

I like this idea very much. It would be awful if the hose...slipped...wouldn't it?

And yes, having had people do a similar thing in terms of bolt cutting, I'd be getting something parked in the gateway. And some electric fencing. And - because electric fencing can be torn up and the energiser nicked - some barbed wire wrapped around the top of the gate.

And landmines.

bridgetreilly · 10/04/2020 22:35

@ChandlerIsTheBestFriend, that is brilliant!

@Gingerkittykat, I think the police can decide what to prioritise, but only if crimes are actually reported to them.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 10/04/2020 22:43

I bet the dogs shit all over the place too. For all they know that field could be for a child to have their daily exercise or exercise their pony and they have to side step strangers dog shit!

HillAreas · 10/04/2020 22:48

Hurrah for @ChandlerIsTheBestFriends great uncle! What a legend GrinGrinGrin

Bargebill19 · 10/04/2020 22:53

Can your friendly farmer leave plenty of fresh muck on the ground and in the muck spreader too - just so they can get really smelly if they try anything to shift it etc. ?

multivac · 10/04/2020 22:57

No, you are not being unreasonable to be furious that chancers are taking advantage of the locked field you have behind your house for your private use.

A bit tactless, maybe, to be furious about it on a forum where many posters don't have a garden at all and are currently really limited as to the amount of time they are able to spend in public spaces... but, y'know, that's just a timing thing, really. Hugs etc.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 10/04/2020 22:57

What a legend

He was apparently. I wish I’d known him. I’ve heard loads of stories about him.
