To be absolutely furious over this?

I'm really genuinely angry right now.

Just been out to take my dog our for his walk. I rent a private field behind my house for my exclusive use. It has a big wooden gate and is padlocked.

Went out tonight and there's a family with two big dogs in there. Car parked outside, music blaring. Dogs are running wild. Two 8-10 yo boys.

They'd cut my padlock off and basically taken over the place. There's rubbish all over. Looks like they'd dumped a couple of bin bags.

I lost it and told them to leave. They refused, and the dogs they had were getting upset so I walked away and I've just reported them to the police. Have their car details and some photos. The call handler didn't seem terribly impressed with their behaviour and apparently they're sending someone out for a chat.

I'm honestly shaking with anger. Why do people have to ruin stuff? It's going to take me hours tomorrow to get it back into usable condition and it's putting me at risk. ☹️☹️☹️

A bit tactless, maybe, to be furious about it on a forum where many posters don't have a garden at all and are currently really limited as to the amount of time they are able to spend in public spaces.

😂😂😂😂

Oh please!

multivac · 10/04/2020 23:08

Yes, seriously. To start a thread with a fucking vote over whether it's ok to feel pissed off that your private property has been invaded or not - like some people might think it's fine? Really? Do you really think you might be being unreasonable?

Your diamond shoes are too tight. That genuinely hurts, I get it.

Greenpop21 · 10/04/2020 23:15

Yanbu sorry I pressed yabu by mistake! What a cheek, you did the right thing and I hope the police deal with them.

Cissyandflora · 10/04/2020 23:15

@multivac I’m in a high rise 4 kids no outside space. I’m furious for the OP. It is not relevant to me that I don’t have space. It’s about the breaking into and abusing someone else’s property. It’s that that makes me upset about society.

LastTrainEast · 10/04/2020 23:17

multivac don't be daft. I'm stuck in a flat and I'm not offended that someone else has a field. And I'd have been pretty mad too if it were mine and someone cut the lock off to get on it.

multivac · 10/04/2020 23:19

Yes. I haven't checked, but has anyone actually answered the poll saying the OP is being unreasonable?

multivac · 10/04/2020 23:22

(apart from greenpop by mistake Grin )

Bargebill19 · 10/04/2020 23:23

Yes - 2% have done yabu. Including the mistaken one.

Bargebill19 · 10/04/2020 23:24

Not me either.

psychomath · 10/04/2020 23:24

Do you really think the police should be spending time running around charging people for breaking a padlock right now?

It is a shitty behaviour on their part but hardly top priority.

Yeah the police must be swamped at the moment, what with all the people out buying non-essential cucumbers and the like Grin

FlaskMaster · 10/04/2020 23:29

I think I'd be tempted to start painting the gate, by throwing a full paint tin around the place as close to the car as possible.

SewItGoes · 10/04/2020 23:30

Yes, the police should be out policing. Cutting a padlock, leaving rubbish on someone else's property, then being rude and threatening when that person turns up? That seems worth their time. Considering how many people are holed up at home right now, it seems like the police might even have more time for things like this than they usually would.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 10/04/2020 23:35

It was a completely different scenario but I rang the police recently for some advice on a potential situation. They advised that if someone was being physically or verbally threatening for whatever reason then they'd attend as a 999 call. Now, that was about a month ago and we're in a different situation now, but if you think this could happen again I'd ring 101 and go through to the advice option.

MotherofTerriers · 10/04/2020 23:40

If you have their number plate could you get their address and return their rubbish to them?

Mumblechum0 · 10/04/2020 23:40

We have a 1.5 acre field which DH has planted as a wildflower meadow and orchard. 5 bar gate which you have to walk up a private track to get to.
Some cheeky bastards climbed over the gate and had a bonfire and firework party there last November.

DH has now installed an electric fence and large, red, keep out sign. Can't believe the cheek of some people

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/04/2020 23:50

"Its not mine but it looks nice so fuck anyone else" has become the easiest way to spot twats.

If we have gained anything from CV, its that we now know who the cunts are.

Save the info because even if the police cant do anything now, you can still use it in future for a civil case for trespass.

multivac · 11/04/2020 00:00

"Its not mine but it looks nice so fuck anyone else" has become the easiest way to spot twats.

It's certainly one of them.

HappydaysArehere · 11/04/2020 00:06

Taking off your padlock is surely criminal entry.

QuestionableMouse · 11/04/2020 00:06

@multivac

I grew up in a town house with a tiny back yard and a door that opened right onto the pavement. We were damn poor, and in many ways I still am - I had a very lucky break to get the house I live in now. I'm appreciate that it sounds amazingly wanky to bleat on about my private field and I'm sorry if anyone is offended by that but believe me, I know how lucky I am for things to have fallen the way they have for me.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 11/04/2020 00:26

It doesn’t sound wanky at all OP. You rent a field- you’re hardly Richard Branson. You’ve nothing to apologise for!

multivac · 11/04/2020 00:33

Simple question, OP. Do you think you are being unreasonable to be furious about your private property being broken into; or not? Do you think anyone would - Richard Branson or otherwise?

Weenurse · 11/04/2020 00:36

Get out your electric fence

multivac · 11/04/2020 00:38

Also - and I realise this will not have come across at all, because I've been a bit dickish - I am really sorry, OP, that your space was invaded in this horrible way. Truly.

Weenurse · 11/04/2020 00:42

Can you post the pictures online on a local site?
Might get a name and shame

QuestionableMouse · 11/04/2020 00:58

No worries, @multivac. Everyone is on edge at the moment and I appreciate that.

It does feel like a violation, weirdly. Maybe not the biggest one ever but yeah, I'm genuinely upset, mostly by the litter and the broken lock. It wasn't theirs to destroy, you know?

Electric fencing will be going up tomorrow. I could probably run it from the mains if I was clever enough... 🙄🙄🙄😂

Also going to have a dig through one of the farm sheds because I'm sure there's some leftover no trespassing signs in there.
