To say... it's a fucking VIRUS

The number of posts on here about how the NHS have recommended "antibac" no they haven't. I wipe it with "antibac" why would you. I can't find any "antibac" handwash, you don't fucking need it.

AIBU to hope that people can learn the difference between a fucking virus and a bacteria. If it was a bacteria it would be called CORONA fucking BACTERIA!!!!

In any case "antibac" is a waste of time and money, use soap and water. FML.

My husband called my Dyson a hoover this morning. I was fuming.Grin

It's just a name. Yes people should be aware a virus isn't bacteria but the antibacs are used as a general name as previously said on this thread.

The OP might like this

twitter.com/joshtpm/status/1248699275355328512

Trump: "Antibiotics used to solve every problem and now one of the biggest problems the world has is the germ has gotten to brilliant that the antibiotic can't keep up with it.

Bobleywobley · 11/04/2020 13:42

"It's hard to get a list of recommended brand names. The PHE isn't that pro-active compared to the CDC

Here's an interesting one. Alcohol free hand sanitiser - it contains biocides which disrupt the membrance.

www.integritexeurope.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Medi9-Technical-Data-from-Integritex-August-2015.pdf

It's a detergent and disinfectant that seems used in quite a few medical centres - and is sold out".
Thanks for that. It only mentions "feline coronavirus", no mention of covid19 or human coronavirus?

TBF - this is a review from 2018.

It destroys Norovirus - which is much 'tougher' than Covid-19

Bobleywobley · 11/04/2020 14:05

Yeah I think what kills Norovirus doesnt necessarily kill Covid 19, thats why its so confusing. It would be a good idea for PHE to publish a list of supermarket products that kill Covid 19.

chomalungma · 11/04/2020 14:10

Norovirus is much harder to kill than Covid-19.

Destroy the lipid bilayer and it's dead.

So if something can destroy Norovirus as well as a whole range of other viruses (this also contains surfactants), it will kill this.

This is what they use in some hospitals to disinfect.

But yes - a Government list like CDC do would be useful

Inkpaperstars · 11/04/2020 16:43

So basically anything with an ionic surfactant is suitable against a bacteria Wink like covid?

Does it matter how far down the list of ingredients it is or how long it stays on the surface?

chomalungma · 11/04/2020 16:56

I would suggest you use them as per the instructions on the bottle.

Personally - for house cleaning, I am using soapy water. As the op said, it's a good way to destroy viruses. Get some washing up powder in water. Clean

www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/pdf/chlorine-solution-liquid-soapy.pdf

This is from the CDC when it came to the Ebola outbreak.

Most disinfectants are likely to be good - if they have the surfactants and are used as the instructions

www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cleaning-disinfection.html

Covid -19 is not as difficult to inactivate as more complex viruses like Norovirus.

Inkpaperstars · 11/04/2020 17:23

Thanks @chomalungma

chomalungma · 24/04/2020 08:46

So this happened last night

And reminded me of this thread

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8251605/Donald-Trump-suggests-bizarre-treatments-coronavirus-including-injections.html

So yes, disinfectants kills viruses. But they shouldn't be injected

JudyCoolibar · 24/04/2020 09:01

I think Trump wants us to inhale it. Off to the bathroom to snort some Domestos.

Fluffybutter · 24/04/2020 09:03

Oh fuck off ,op.
It works on viruses too, like you’ve been told and like you should know with your degree .
Coronavirus ,obviously not but it will help you avoid getting anything else !

Dyrne · 24/04/2020 09:07

The sad thing is, people will try injecting bleach into themselves; and people will become very sick and even die. All because Trump is a twat.

Lweji · 24/04/2020 11:56

All because Trump is a twat.

They have to be twats too.

Dyrne · 24/04/2020 11:58

The trouble is, because America’s health care system is so shit I imagine poor desperate people would grasp on to any possible affordable “home remedy” they could. And I can see them thinking that if the President says it’s a cure, then surely it must work?
