To say... it's a fucking VIRUS

The number of posts on here about how the NHS have recommended "antibac" no they haven't. I wipe it with "antibac" why would you. I can't find any "antibac" handwash, you don't fucking need it.

AIBU to hope that people can learn the difference between a fucking virus and a bacteria. If it was a bacteria it would be called CORONA fucking BACTERIA!!!!

In any case "antibac" is a waste of time and money, use soap and water. FML.

If, after all @chomalungma "certain" means "all" of course I will deliver an apology. My suspicion is that you, along with much of the UK population think that "antibac" means entirely anti microbial and Effective against Coronavirus.

OP posts:
girlicorne · 09/04/2020 23:38

I had this argument with my DH, he thought bacteria produced viruses. Or viruses were made of bacteria or something like that. I gave him a swift biology lesson on the difference between the different micro-organisms.... It's good to know why anti-bac does work with viruses though!

chomalungma · 09/04/2020 23:38

I'd love you love you to narrow down what "certain" mean

Why don't you take a deep breath and then read the thread again, reading what people have said, reflect on it and then write down what conclusions you come to about that.

Try and see what people are saying.

bingowingsmcgee · 09/04/2020 23:39

Well I've found this a really useful thread, for what it's worth. Tone hardly matters right now.

Inkpaperstars · 09/04/2020 23:40

If someone told me 'certain' antibacterial products would work, I would interpret that as meaning that there some antibacterial products that would work and not others. Ie. Some particular/to be specified products, a subset of products.

ArtisanBreadBin · 09/04/2020 23:40

@girlicorne some viruses. Don't be fooled by posters on here telling you that "antibac" is a panacea. It works on some viruses. Not all. Does it work on Coronavirus? Who knows.

OP posts:
chomalungma · 09/04/2020 23:41

My suspicion is that you, along with much of the UK population think that "antibac" means entirely anti microbial and Effective against Coronavirus

Once again. Read the thread. Read the posts. Make notes. Reflect

Oh - and Masters in Clinical Biochemistry so I think I know a bit about anti-bac and anti-microbial differences.

ArtisanBreadBin · 09/04/2020 23:41

@chomalungma we both know who's working to protect the public and who's being obtuse. Telling people that "antibac" will protect them, is a lie. I'm happy to expose that lie.

OP posts:
NearlyGranny · 09/04/2020 23:44

Certain, some, up to, most...

All weasel words or phrased that evaporate to meaninglessness under scrutiny. Hot soapy water is our best line of defence. And have you seen the latest social distancing recommendations around runners and cyclist who apparently trail a 10 or 20m plume respectively of exhaled droplets behind them?!

ArtisanBreadBin · 09/04/2020 23:45

@NearlyGranny precisely. So let's stop fucking about and pretending.

OP posts:
chomalungma · 09/04/2020 23:46

Telling people that "antibac" will protect them

It's a good thing that no one on here is doing that then, isn't it.

Except for you.

^o you're happy to recommend "antibac" to everyone based on the fact that "most" could prefect against Coronavirus*

You've said that "antibac" kills viruses and you have said this without the qualifier "some

glad you're happy for people to believe that all "antibac" wipes are effective against Coronavirus

I can't believe people fucking pretending they know for a fact that something labelled fucking "antibac" is definitely, 100% effective against Coronavirus

o what's your point. You want to tell everyone that anything that says "antibac" will kill Coronavirus

Quarantina · 09/04/2020 23:47

In your first post on this thread you said "certain" antibac will kill the virus. I'd love you love you to narrow down what "certain" means.

If, after all @chomalungma "certain" means "all" of course I will deliver an apology

The dictionary definition of 'certain' is 'some but not all'. She then went on to specify which specific ingredients to look for in antibacs. Why on earth would 'certain' mean all? You've dug yourself into such an unreasonable hole that you're now talking complete gibberish.

chomalungma · 09/04/2020 23:50

It works on some viruses. Not all

Which is what most people have been saying on here.
And they have explained what to look out for.

As @Quarantina said.

Inkpaperstars · 09/04/2020 23:50

I have never seen anyone saying that products labelled antibacterial will protect you against covid. If pressed, people who know about this will say yes, some products labelled antibacterial are likely to have relevant properties that would make them effective against covid. But that is a different point.

Yes, I have seen some people on here saying they use 'antibac'. I assumed that they were using that as a misguided shorthand for some kind of effective disinfectant, or that they were possibly not using an effective product. In either case it doesn't necessarily mean they think they are fighting bacteria rather than a virus, although that is possible.

goingoverground · 09/04/2020 23:53

@ArtisanBreadBin ok, cool. So you're happy to recommend "soapy water" to everyone based on the fact that "most people will use enough" to protect against Coronavirus? Just checking what your thresholds are?

The problem with cleaning products is that they don't have to list ingredients comprehensively but:

Most antibacterial sprays state that they contain

chomalungma · 09/04/2020 23:57

I really want to try reflective listening with the OP.

So here goes.

OP - can you explain to me what you think I have been saying this evening about anti-bacterial products and their effect on Coronavirus?

It would help if you could add quotes to back up what you are saying - just so I can see we are all thinking the same thing

(that was very polite, wasn't it)

Schuyler · 10/04/2020 00:00

Christ on a cracker, you’re being so spiteful to @chomalungma and making up stuff that s/he didn’t say at all. I didn’t get the message that ”antibacterials will protect me”. Can’t see where Chom said that. 🤷🏻‍♀️Given your supposed expert knowledge, you’ve not really imparted any wisdom e.g. how much soap to water? From someone who isn’t an expert, you’ve spent more time snarking than actually educating and I am someone who is very happy to listen and learn on this topic!

theneighbourswindchime · 10/04/2020 00:01

It's a shame it doesn't work on self-entitled-nasty-egomaniacs either - or is be spraying it on you OP.

Life must be so rosey for you up there on your pedestal.

CoffeeandPainting · 10/04/2020 00:07

Have a Biscuit on me OP

ArtisanBreadBin · 10/04/2020 00:08

I give up. Crack on with your "antibac" folks. @chomalungma said it is effective against "some" viruses or whatevs. Sounds legit to rely on. I mean, "some" is a huge level of confidence.

All Ive been trying to get across was "antibac" isn't a panacea because viruses exist but apparently that's not acceptable. Keep antibacing your parsnips folk because "some" of it "might" work.

OP posts:
BighairBabybiceps · 10/04/2020 00:15

lmao I nominate this thread for worst thread of 2020 and it’s only April

ArtisanBreadBin · 10/04/2020 00:18

@bighairbabybiceps so you're happy to be complicit in wide scale misinformation? And to accept that "some" "antibac" "could" protect you from Coronavirus?

Cool. Hope you aren't involved in anyway in the UK response to the pandemic.

OP posts:
BighairBabybiceps · 10/04/2020 00:20

Op you are shameless delete your account lmao

FuckYouCorona · 10/04/2020 00:25

The most idiotic OP of 2020 for sure. Hmm Can't argue with idiots like that! Did a great job of convincing themselves that they know it all though, so congrats for that! Wink

Bobleywobley · 10/04/2020 00:26

"I use this www.bioguardhygiene.co.uk/products/disinfectant-cleaning-solution/ to clean shopping that's been delivered plus other surfaces/handles etc"

I cant see mention of active ingredient but if its not bleach or alcohol 60%+ it wont kill Covid 19.
