MigginsMs · 09/04/2020 09:55

I don’t but if I did I wouldn’t

Lardlizard · 09/04/2020 09:56

As although I think it’s selfish for these well of celebs doing it, I can understand why they would be tempted and also the first hospitals that reach max capacity are usually London hospitals anyway

DrWAnker · 09/04/2020 09:56

Hahaha, is this another wind-up?
NO!

Alb1 · 09/04/2020 09:56

No, because you are not allowed to, as everyone knows.

Lardlizard · 09/04/2020 09:57

If your not allowed to, they whe aren’t people that are currently in second homes, told by the police to return to their main residence ?

OP posts:
JasonPollack · 09/04/2020 09:57

You'll be stopped at the border if you try to come here.

Alb1 · 09/04/2020 09:59

I don’t no I’m not the police, but everybody nos it’s not allowed. The police are sending people back that they find on their way to second homes. Why start another goady thread on it anyway? The message is clear, stay home.

Lardlizard · 09/04/2020 10:02

well I’ve just been reading about Gordan Ramsey, and I can understand why he would wanT to do it

Plus of course the Beckham have

And Kirsty Allsopp, although she travelled to Devon knowingly having the virus

OP posts:
Redyellowpink · 09/04/2020 10:02

I don't. But if I did of course I fucking would, just like everyone else would

Lardlizard · 09/04/2020 10:03

People in Cornwall etc don’t like people with second homes, but gordan ramsey didn’t make you the rules that people are allowed to own more than one home did he.

Ferfooksek · 09/04/2020 10:03

Gordon Ramsay was already at his second home when lockdown was announced. He’s done nothing wrong

Cyllie33 · 09/04/2020 10:05

If your not allowed to, they whe aren’t people that are currently in second homes, told by the police to return to their main residence ?

OP the issue is about travelling and spreading the virus not about simply having a second residence.

MakeLemonade · 09/04/2020 10:06

I do and haven’t. London has the highest number of ICU beds per 100,000 people, I’ll stick here thanks!

Cyllie33 · 09/04/2020 10:06

And no, if I had a second home I wouldn’t travel to it. I would abide by Govt advice to help save lives.

I have a second home and despite our first thought when lockdown was looming being “let’s go there - it’ll be safer” we quickly realised that in fact there is only one small hospital an hours drive away and also the shops are often decimated in the summer so it probably wouldn’t be a good idea after all.
Also we get on well with our neighbours who are locals and I wouldn’t have wanted them to be worried about us taking any germs down there.
So no, we’re staying put.
It’s my understanding that Gordan, Kirsty et al were already ensconced in their holiday homes when lockdown occurred? I’ve no idea though.

I do wonder if those who rushed to second homes are regretting it now with fuck all to do and only the local spar for supplies!!

dameofdilemma · 09/04/2020 10:08

It's hard to have sympathy for the second homers as they're probably not struggling to raise kids in a cramped flat with no outside space and anti social neighbours.
They're probably going from a nice house to a really nice house.

If by some twist of reality someone was trying to escape said cramped flat with kids then I'd have sympathy.

It's hard for some people to comprehend what city lockdown is like. It's not just having to walk in a less pretty woodland instead of the beach. It's walking on pavements for the foreseeable.
(And don't believe the media hype, the vast majority of Londoners are complying with lockdown).

Sounsociable · 09/04/2020 10:16

I thought Gordon Ramsay and Kirsty Allsopp were already in their 2nd (or 3rd!) Homes when lockdown started? No idea on the beckhams. Its v clear you're not supposed to go to a second or other home. All holidays were cancelled and holiday lets, caravan packs etc were closed to deter people travelling. That includes if you happen to own the caravan or holiday house.
When they stay stay at home, they mean stay at 1 home in the same place so you are less likely to transmit the virus.
I do know one family who are staying in their 2nd home, I've no idea when they decided to go but its definitely not their normal main residence.

PotholeParadise · 09/04/2020 10:17

Absolutely not.

SvenandSven · 09/04/2020 10:20

The problem is a lot of the places people have second homes are rural/coastal.
These places do not have hospital capacities like city hospitals.
I live in a small coastal town on the south coast. We have lots of second homes here.
It is causing lots of concern as our nearest hospital is 45 minutes away and covers a very large area.
Our local supermarkets are small. We do not have any tesco, asda etc here. Again it's a 40 minute drive to a big name store.
Our shops are very limited in supplies for the town as it is.
Extra visitors puts a huge amount of pressure at the moment.
I have finally managed to get an asda collection slot for later on today. I will no doubt get stopped on the way back to my town. As police have stepped up road checks to try and stop visitors coming in.
All carparks for beaches and coastal path walks etc are all closed.
It is very selfish of people to try and get to second homes.

PersonaNonGarter · 09/04/2020 10:23

Yes - if it had a garden and my main home didn’t.

Lockdown is disproportionately affecting people without outdoor space. Luckily, my DC have our garden. I would 100%. Or leave a house with a garden standing empty while DC were in a flat.

EyUpDuck12 · 09/04/2020 10:24

No, because that's how the virus spreads to new areas. Selfish idiots!

Chillyourbeans · 09/04/2020 10:24

We have one and we haven't travelled to it. We long to because it's in a beautiful part of the country but to do so would be wrong and why should we be above the rules?

maddy68 · 09/04/2020 10:24

No. But if I had I would have gone that Friday night when he announced the lock down after the pubs shut!

PersonaNonGarter · 09/04/2020 10:24

I really don’t like the aggro towards second home owners atm. It’s a cover for bashing wealthy people.
