.......during this time of crisis. Home Secretary?
And for that matter. not heard from Rees-Mogg for a while.
Thankfully.

All of the above and I think she couldn’t talk coherently to the figures, charts etc. in the daily briefings. It does take the biscuit though when a government can’t put up its own Home Secretary in a national emergency.

babychange12 · 09/04/2020 15:46

Why is she so anti immigrants? Presumably her family were immigrants once?

VegetableMunge · 09/04/2020 15:55

Patel is facing substantial criticism at the moment for running scared. If she or one of her family actually were unwell, that would be the best excuse available to her and she would use it.

JudyCoolibar · 09/04/2020 15:56

If she had half a brain she would come out and make a full admission that she was completely wrong about immigrants in low paid jobs. At least that way she would get credit for honesty. However, she's far too arrogant to do that.

There have been trending #Where'sPritti memes on Twitter and elsewhere. If she was out of the limelight due to illness, you can be absolutely sure we would have been told.

JudyCoolibar · 09/04/2020 15:57

Amazing that Michael Gove has been considered better for briefings than Priti. That tells you something

The interesting thing was that until he had to self-isolate they clearly thought he was better for briefings than Raab. And, to be fair, they were quite right.

Alsohuman · 09/04/2020 15:59

Let’s face it nobody with an ounce of sense would let her anywhere near those daily briefings. God alone knows what she’d say and, given her propensity to have an argument in an empty room, she’d be having a flaming row with a journalist five minutes in.

Appuskidu · 09/04/2020 16:02

If she’s that awful that her own party won’t let her near the press, why did they give her such an important cabinet position?!

DippyAvocado · 09/04/2020 16:07

If she’s that awful that her own party won’t let her near the press, why did they give her such an important cabinet position?!

Many of us have been wondering that since her appointment! It was astonishing enough that she was given such a prominent role considering she had to resign in disgrace from a previous post.
I think the reason she was given it was that she was a loud supporter of Brexit, which seemed to be the only criteria for a cabinet position.

VegetableMunge · 09/04/2020 16:09

She was given the job because she's a high profile right winger. They didn't expect her to fuck up quite so quickly, and having an inadequate in the role has ended up mattering much more than anyone realised it would because of the pandemic.

NOTANUM · 09/04/2020 16:18

Rees Mogg he is focused on his hedge fund which is no doubting shorting the £/FTSE as we speak like all good vulture hedge funds.

Patel this one is more interesting. I suspect her time in the cabinet is almost over.

tinytemper66 · 09/04/2020 16:31

Apparently some bloke called Dan Wooton has her on his radio show today!

isitspringyet · 09/04/2020 16:36

She disappeared up bojos backside so keen was she to be included in his cabinet during the election campaign

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 09/04/2020 16:41

@Walkingtohealth 24k?! I’m in a food supplying role and you can nearly half that!

Cosima1 · 09/04/2020 16:47

They won’t risk putting her in front of cameras at a time like this because she unfortunately has a “resting smirk face”. That, combined with the compassion of a flea is not a winning combination.

At least Raab can appear to resemble a response on a human level.

Probably they would even roll JRM out before her.

Cosima1 · 09/04/2020 16:50

Cummings also seems to have vanished into cyberspace which just goes to show his only alliance was with Boris and nobody else in the cabinet gives him the time if day. The fool.

chomalungma · 09/04/2020 16:55

@cosima1

There's a whole thread on Cummings

LakieLady · 09/04/2020 17:06

We haven't seen Rees-Mogg because in his world it's still the early 19th century and therefore there's no phone, internet or anything like that.

Plus of course he doesn't want to actually have to field questions about how much his hedge fund (in which he still has, iirc, a 15% interest) has gone up since this started. The fund management have already contacted investors saying this is a great time to invest and forecasting mega-millions in growth.

iklboo · 09/04/2020 17:37

Having a Priti pity party

WakeAndBake · 09/04/2020 17:43

@Baby change Why is she so anti immigrants? Presumably her family were immigrants once?

I don’t get this. I am an immigrant but that doesn’t mean I am simply in favour of immigration at all times. Why should it be that just because I have moved to a new place it would be good for everybody else to move there?

Walkingtohealth · 09/04/2020 17:59

Yep she thinks anyone earning less than £24k is unnecessary if they are an immigrant.

As Once says above..l.many are on less than that,

Alsohuman · 09/04/2020 18:37

Why should it be that just because I have moved to a new place it would be good for everybody else to move there?

Because it smacks of pulling the ladder up?

underneaththeash · 09/04/2020 19:06

She's there - you just need to google Priti Patel. She 'advised' on the Police chief comments (The one who said that they were going to check people's shopping trolleys).

I know everyone's bored, but commenting on people not doing enough as some random lay person things they should do, is just a bit crap.

VeryQuaintIrene · 09/04/2020 19:24

I haven't missed her odious smirk one little bit, but I do understand what you mean, OP.

VegetableMunge · 09/04/2020 19:28

You seem to have rather misunderstood the tone of the thread in your hurry to lecture us underneaththeash.

Most participants don't actually want Patel to be doing more, indeed we consider her such a malign influence that it's best she not. Rather, we think it's rather telling that she's been more involved in the covid briefings and of course that she's running scared from the select committee. Although that last part is, in fact, more than a bit crap. It's fucking disgraceful.

underneaththeash · 09/04/2020 19:56

@VegetableMunge - no I haven't. I dislike politiceering threads that prey on people (especially women) who are unable to defend themselves.
