Yes they should have just announced the offer. Don’t agree with thrilled more finding it completely crass but we all see things differently.

Some have been thrilled by the financial difficulties mentioned and the sneering has taking over.

Haven’t seen much evidence of people being “thrilled”, just disbelief that approaching users to chip in should be the way out of financial difficulties.

Reddit also offers a premium option and it costs more. There are plenty of things I prefer about reddit (and I've been on it since it started, through the time it nearly went bust) but offering a premium option whilst keep discussion/membership available free is not at all unusual.

Imv Mn will be better without you and it will get back to how it was before with fewer followers- - threads grew over days not in minutes, it's really hard to get a proper discussion wit the OP now .

I got a sniffy message from MNHQ accusing me of spamming (it was ONE time) and now they are calling me a sock puppet.

It's always been the way that you can't link to threads on other sites on here, which is what it sounds like you did.
You might not "own Reddit" as you put it but you linking to subreddits definitely sounds like it broke the guidelines.
Not because MNHQ don't like you or whatever

I’ve been here for 12 years so yeah maybe it was better in ye olde olden days. MN don’t want fewer users they want heated discussions and daily mail articles and fast moving threads with loads of clicks. They don’t care about a better user experience. If you want slower moving threads you are better off moving to a different platform.

Not a personal vendetta at all! We thought it was quite fair to ask that you don't post links to your new community here, is all. We're letting this thread run, as you can see, and we're letting people talk about all the other places they can get together. But we don't let people post under more than one username on the same thread, which is why we deleted your last post. If you'd like to reply to the mail we sent, we'd be more than happy to discuss all this behind the scenes.

By the way, you missed off the last part of our mail when you quoted it upthread, where we said: "No hard feelings, we hope. We know you've been on the site for years and we hope they've mostly been good years!"

No I'm a long time poster that just can't see why people are outraged (lots of pearl clutching on the other premium discussion threads) at the suggestion of a premium subscription when many other sites including the much feted Reddit offer it. The timing isn't off because it is in fact the current situation that has caused all businesses to struggle.

Sign up or don't, no one is twisting anyone's arm.

I think there is a bit of twisting - begging type style, we are a public service etc - but yes just offer a service and let it be evaluated on its own terms.

I think the one key feature - editing - has been withdrawn so my not sure there’s anything left.

@Luc1nda I am a true crime fan though and there is no point joining a true crime discussion if all your going to say is “Chris Watts is bad”, and there are many threads on it because it was such a shocking crime and the case was out for public consumption as the Colorado Police put 2000 pages of the case together and released it online, plus all the footage of him pleading for his families safe return, the police searching the house with body cams, his arrest and all the witness statements all recorded for us true crimes to read, I have never seen anything like it before. If your not a true crime fan then of course you won’t like it.
