To wish Rishi Sunak was Prime Minister

He just seems more in touch.

I am sick of the hard right in politics. Out of all the remaining members of the Cabinet, while BJ is in hospital, Rishi Sunak seems to be the most admirable MP.

AIBU?

Agreed

devildeepbluesea · 08/04/2020 17:23

Just read his Wikipedia page. For an incredibly privileged guy he does seem to get real life more than most of the Tories.

DragonNight · 08/04/2020 17:24

He is rather fantastic today. Makes Raab look even worse than he was.

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:25

Raab is a compete nightmare IMO.

I am quite surprised that Rishi Sunak is a Tory at all.

OP posts:
TheQueef · 08/04/2020 17:27

He is next after Raab

FudgeBrownie2019 · 08/04/2020 17:27

YANBU to like him but I think for him to be PM he'd need to be a little more tested than he has been so far. Given his history, though, I'd say he's a likely candidate for PM in the next ten years.

CandyLeBonBon · 08/04/2020 17:27

No. He's delivered a set of emergency measures all of which will have lasting financial repercussions. He's good press fodder for a bit of a fixer upper but it's important to recognise that delivering a set of emergency measures and running the country through the current and future difficulties does require a bit more experience. Other than standing in front of a camera, spouting what (a great percentage) of the population wants to hear what are his qualifications for the role?

And no. I didn't vote for Boris.
I thing The guy has done well to deliver a package that helps some of the population but prime minister material? Nope.

He speaks well in public.

We have no idea how competent he is. All he's done is hand out money and make speeches so far.

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:29

Yes - PM material within ten years.

OP posts:
CandyLeBonBon · 08/04/2020 17:30

Ok op. So You want him as on and that's that? Ok then!

Justajot · 08/04/2020 17:30

Isn't he just in the right position to be announcing public spending? If you shuffled the cabinet positions around, someone else as chancellor would be giving the "good news" of spending to support employment and the economy. So it's really hard to tell if he's actually any better than his peers.

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:31

He is next after Raab

I thought Priti Patel was next?

OP posts:
TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:32

Ah, maybe I feel like this because he has handed out free money.

Or maybe he seems like someone who cares?

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 08/04/2020 17:33

No he's next after Raab. He's also had a privileged background, has been catapulted into a very safe seat and has married into money. Bright but little evidence he is much more than a product of slick marketing.

TheQueef · 08/04/2020 17:34

I'm sure the beeb said it was Sunak.
They wouldn't dare let Priti out of her box.

ilovesooty · 08/04/2020 17:35

I doubt if he cares any more than any other member of the cabinet.

I think Johnson might live to regret promoting him though.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 08/04/2020 17:36

He's on now and doing a bit of a Maybot, but getting the slogans all mixed-up:

Stay Alive. Protect Home. Save The NHS.

Medical Mrs has clearly had the Riot Act read to her: "I for one will be staying at home this Easter!"

PeepeeDarling · 08/04/2020 17:37

Great public speaker - far too inexperienced. One day maybe but no where near yet

LaurieFairyCake · 08/04/2020 17:38

God, wait till Boris is dead..

FudgeBrownie2019 · 08/04/2020 17:39

Pritt Patel should never be PM. She shot herself in the foot when she lost her position as IDS due to the (14? 15?) meetings with Israeli ministers that she secretly held, never mind her voting history resembling that of Pol Pot.

sadpapercourtesan · 08/04/2020 17:41

I don't trust him as far as I can spit him. He's got the easy gig at the moment, being the acceptable face of the Tories and handing out sweeties. Once this is over, the recession hits and austerity returns with a vengeance, I think we'll see the other side of this glib, privileged pretty-boy fairly smartish. And I won't be surprised.

Frouby · 08/04/2020 17:41

I like Rishi. And I don't usually rate any tory.

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:41

Priti Patel's voting history resembling that of Pol Pot.

Agreed! Yes it is early days for him but he radiates an aura of leadership I find highly reassuring.
