I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

@lachy
Considering they are reducing the ads for the paid version. Are you still happy even putting aside all their security breaches and access issues they’ve had for a long time?

If you just want it for the Adblock, download Adblock easy and free to use.

Whyhaveidonethis · 08/04/2020 23:12

Fuck me, I wouldn't be paying for this. The mumsnet android app is barely usable at the best of times.

MarshaBradyo · 08/04/2020 23:17

No fine to provide content but not to pay to do that too. Was ok with the transaction content to see ads.

maddy68 · 08/04/2020 23:28

No definitely not.

UYScuti · 08/04/2020 23:29

I'm astonished and dumbfounded that the wage bill comes to £350,000 a month
that seems like jumping the shark to me🦈
I reckon a teenager could write an algorithm that would moderate this forum

UYScuti · 08/04/2020 23:31

Does anyone know of any successful forums where the members have to pay to use it?

SwedishEdith · 08/04/2020 23:34

I've got a anonymous email account used only for mn. I had emails from Vote Leave to that email account (had forgotten, just looking at the account now as I never look at it). They could only have got that email address from mn. They are simply not trustworthy with personal data.

helgahelga · 08/04/2020 23:42

@Carbosug

Oh and I agree the moderation here is pretty bad. There seems to be little initiative and just a rigid checklist as to what breaks the rules and what doesn't. Some really nasty and abusive posts are allowed stand because technically they aren't in breach of guidelines, while innocuous posts are removed.

I agree with this.

Also, what really boils my piss, is when entire threads get deleted for naff-all, and the reason given is 'the OP has privacy concerns.'

I posted a fairly long, sympathetic post on a thread today (entitled 'AIBU to want to pay my bills in the bank?' The OP was getting a hard time and I said I understood, and I used to feel the same, but now I find life easier by paying for stuff/doing stuff online.

Not only did I not get a response, but half hour later, the bloody thread got deleted because 'the poster has some real life concerns...' Hmm Such bullpoo. There was NOTHING in that thread that would have given away who she was. NOTHING. She was just pissed off that 90% of the responses were having a go at her and disagreeing with her.

I am so sick of threads being deleted, that people have spent time posting on, in good faith, because the OP doesn't like some of the replies! It should be stopped, seriously. I am getting to the point now where I can't be arsed to post more than a couple of dozen words on any post, because what's the point, if the thread is gonna be deleted? Confused

Oh and NO I won't be bloody paying for mumsnet.

helgahelga · 08/04/2020 23:44

Oh and as a few posters have said, I wouldn't trust mumsnet to look after my personal information. And I think they would be too easily hacked.

Also, I agree that even the simplest and most basic of forums, should have an 'edit post' function. It's beyond bizarre that they haven't.

mochojoes · 09/04/2020 00:05

my app doesn't have the voting function, do I have to enable it? Didn't even know one existed but now some of the thread comments make sense! 🤦🏼‍♀️

drunkyhumptydumpty · 09/04/2020 00:12

It's not available on the app. But you can use it on a phone on the internet.

mochojoes · 09/04/2020 00:19

that explains it! thank you

maddy68 · 09/04/2020 00:19

Definitely won't pay and probably wouldn't if I could afford to either. . I've lost my job too as have many others these are difficult times.
There are plenty of other chat type forums

willowhazel · 09/04/2020 00:23

How long will it be before they have topics which are just for the paying members ?

Tw1nset · 09/04/2020 00:27

No and I have been here about 18 years and back in the day I paid for the fee so I could pay to contact a poster. But back then MN felt like more of a start up venture and women empowering women. Now it is a corporate establishment business with shocking disregard for safety and privacy.

alloutoffucks · 09/04/2020 02:17

@willowhazel Not going to happen, they need as many posters as possible.

willowhazel · 09/04/2020 03:38

Yet here they are alienating many and making it a two tier site,

BadLad · 09/04/2020 03:55

Shouldn't Justine's begging thread have this on it?

Hi all,

Just a reminder to all our members to be aware that not everyone on t'internet is who they say they are, and that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

SnoozyLou · 09/04/2020 04:16

I thought this thread was a joke when I first saw it.

No I won't. Never paid to visit an online forum and I won't be starting now.

SnoozyLou · 09/04/2020 04:19

I am so sick of threads being deleted

Oh and this. A few weeks back it was happening constantly.

Topseyt · 09/04/2020 04:21

I'm reluctant to pay when you can't even edit posts. I've always thought that was beyond ridiculous. It is such a basic function to want.

I've been on other forums which started out free to use and then introduced subscription. They always went seriously downhill afterwards.

Methyl · 09/04/2020 04:32

Absolutely. Mumsnet has been such a significant part of my life for 12 years. To think I have had so much value out of it without paying a penny - I am more than happy to help out now. In fact, DH and I are going to each pay a year's subscription. We're in a lucky position workwise and are happy to contribute where we can.

Skippingabeat · 09/04/2020 04:39

Yes I would until they can generate money again through ads.

I read exclusively on the app, and I don't see any ads, so it's not about any of the additional features. It's about being able to support a site that I've been using for years so they don't shut it down.

Playmistyforme66 · 09/04/2020 04:39

No, mumsnet is ok but not worth £5 a month

MinnieJackson · 09/04/2020 04:42

27 pages atm, so I haven't read them all. I would be so sad though if we had to pay to go on mumsnet, only because of the current situation where I'm worrying about paying my electric and phone, and because you guys give me some insight to what other folks are doing...do what you have to guys, I'll be waiting when you get back!!
