I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

@mouthbreathingrage well yes, but I'd like Mumsnet to continue as I do like the site as a whole. I am happy to make the decision to subscribe, if I change my mind I'll cancel.

Probably all those who boast about their husband's "high 6 figure" salary and how they don't need to work!
I wish Grinfamily on two nursing incomes here. Just getting lots of overtime right now.

canigooutyet · 08/04/2020 20:08

Of course they are gullible. Some of those 200 are happy to be ad free for the cost.

Shame they jumped in feet first and didn’t check anything.

Sites I have paid for I have gotten something worthwhile not shit gimmicks that are free. Less cost, more for the cash including merchandise.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they offer more tiers. This is the basic package.

Waterandlemonjuice · 08/04/2020 20:10

Mumsnet posters are the product. If we all leave or stop posting there is no site.

No, I won’t be paying.

eurochick · 08/04/2020 20:13

I think they've really misjudged this. The same price as a year of unlimited Disney for something where I provide the content? No way.

I'm sure their business is suffering at the moment. Isn't everyone's? We are all feeling the pain.

If they'd asked for a fiver or tenner on a voluntary basis to see them through, I probably would have done it.

Fantasiaa · 08/04/2020 20:14

Way too high of a price !

leli · 08/04/2020 20:15

It's cheaper than subscribing to the Times or the Telegraph and way more fun and informative. I'm in.

SarahAndQuack · 08/04/2020 20:15

I just can't afford it, but I hope MN doesn't go under.

AgeLikeWine · 08/04/2020 20:18

No.

I only subscribe to one thing : Sky Sports. This is a significant monthly expense, and is my treat to myself as a reward for working FT.

I have no intention of signing up for any other media or entertainment subscription of any kind.

HoffiCoffi13 · 08/04/2020 20:21

Same. But I’m not subscribing to something that actually isn’t all that good.
Same price as Disney +... I know which I would choose.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/04/2020 20:21

Exactly! What’s left will be an awful echo chamber.

Justanotherlurker · 08/04/2020 20:21

This is the type of user they are gambling on.

happyandsingle · 08/04/2020 20:24

I love coming on here and have had some invaluable advice over the years.
As soon as I know I have a job to go back to I would be willing to pay for the year as I would really miss mumsnet if it went.

happyandsingle · 08/04/2020 20:25

Can you pay just for the year as I dont want a monthly dd.

OneForMeToo · 08/04/2020 20:29

Not a chance I’d go to another forum.

MissConductUS · 08/04/2020 20:29

Can you pay just for the year as I dont want a monthly dd.

Yes, and it's a bit less expensive if you do.

AgeLikeWine · 08/04/2020 20:39

Correct. We all recognise that times are hard, but asking us to subscribe suggests MN doesn’t understand its own business model. MN is not Netflix or the Guardian. Its content is user generated, therefore we are the product not the customer.

alloutoffucks · 08/04/2020 20:43

@leli The Times and Telegraph have paid journalists, they are not charging people to view the articles they write themselves.

SoapIsYourFriend · 08/04/2020 20:52

What forum would everyone go to?

tigger1001 · 08/04/2020 20:52

It's far too expensive for a forum, so no I won't be subscribing.

It's actually quite insulting to be asking people to subscribe to a forum, where the users themselves provide the content. In addition to be asking when many users will be suffering financial hardship as a result of covid 19 is galling.

Covert20 · 08/04/2020 20:52

Nah, this will probably be the end of MN for me. Been here a decade (many many name changes) but never found it that helpful more a case of it being diverting! It used to be a really funny place, but as it’s got busier, the posters I had most affection for have drifted away, and it’s got so much more aggressive than it ever was!

Maybe it’s the kick I need to go!

Ninkanink · 08/04/2020 20:55

My comment on Justine’s thread:

I won’t be paying, sadly.

I’ve been burnt on FWR, and threatened with ‘3 strikes and you’re out.’ One of those strikes was arguably fair enough (and actually not about anything other than being slightly too condescending towards those of an exceptionally hard of thinking nature), but the second one absolutely wasn’t.

My rights and protections don’t matter all that much, apparently, and my refusal to adhere to anything other than biological fact is a liability.

So I’ll stay for the ways in which this website benefits me. But on principle I won’t pay for the privilege of providing content here. I’d potentially make money if MN went down as I might be forced to actually start a blog or vlog that likely would provide me with an income. As it stands I can’t be arsed, when I can just hang out here with the vipers. I would have considered a one-time donation, because I do care about the good that MN does for women in some respects. But I absolutely won’t be giving any further personal details/info, and sadly I don’t believe that the commitment to discussion of and protection of women’s and girls’ rights is robust enough.

mumto2teenagers · 08/04/2020 20:56

Think for a premium service they should offer something other than no ads.

With such financial uncertainty I think a lot of people won’t be sending money on non-essential things.

heartsonacake · 08/04/2020 20:58

Think for a premium service they should offer something other than no ads.

It’s not even no ads, it’s just fewer ads.

Thighmageddon · 08/04/2020 20:58

Probably all those who boast about their husband's "high 6 figure" salary and how they don't need to work!

Not quite 6 figures but I'm not going to buy in to something like this.

I'm not wanting to enter the territory of haves and have nots despite technically being able to afford it.

SilverBangle · 08/04/2020 21:02

Not a chance! MN can be, somewhat, entertaining (in a peculiar sort of way) but I’d prefer to pay for The Disney Channel. Much less hassle and angst. Stay safe everyone 😷
