I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

I'm afraid I'd need a lot more detail than "there'll be fewer ads and a 15 second edit function" before I'd hand over my back details to a company that has already had a couple of breaches of users data tried to gloss over it.

Justanotherlurker · 08/04/2020 19:37

Parents are not an advertisers dream, they have far less money than most sects of society, and now even more are off or out of work that is no incentive to advertise to them.

Parents are one of the key demographic for advertisers and are actually an advertisers dream primarily female, from pfb mum to anxious tweens and shite tv, its one of the largest overlap groups for easy clicks.

Jellykat · 08/04/2020 19:38

I would happily pay, MN has been my entertainment for many years.. but with no income until the self employment grant gets sorted, i'm borrowing money for essentials atm.

pilates · 08/04/2020 19:38

No, husband is self employed and I’m furloughed. We have cut out non essentials. Just picturing my husband’s face if I subscribed for MN premium 😂

Thighmageddon · 08/04/2020 19:38

I've only got an ad blocker enabled because of the truly shitty, glitchy problems lots of us had last year when we were redirected to "you've won a carribean holiday and an iPad" sites we were redirected to involuntarily.

There's no way on planet Earth I'd hand over money when they couldn't even manage the glitches they had previously despite their revoltingly high salary bill in a timely manner.

canigooutyet · 08/04/2020 19:39

🤣 I laughed at hq dealing with trolls quickly. There have been some horrific trolls and despite reports their comments stood.

Yet are a helpful member and for no reason they are banned.

Quite often I forget this place has mods tbh.

And for the amount they pay in wages alone should provide a seamlessly run site, never mind all the volunteers.

And charging for an edit button ffs. They need to check around more as this is a free feature.

You can hate the site all you like. Ukescorting no ads, no fee, moderated and has an edit function. There is no bank of staff just the owner and they are running rings around this place in terms of how the site operates.

DysonFury · 08/04/2020 19:41

No chance. This could be the arse kick I need to return me to the real life of books, conversation etc.

winterinmadeira · 08/04/2020 19:43

No. No value for money in those prices and what’s being offered.

FlossyJones · 08/04/2020 19:43

Hmmm....Mumsnet Premium or Disney Plus...?

canigooutyet · 08/04/2020 19:44

Oh I forgot all the re-directs to congratulations you’ve won something. Or just what you need when your taking a 5 minute break, kids around and the direct is to porn. It’s wasn’t just an issue last year. It’s been the case for at least 3 years.

TeaLibrary · 08/04/2020 19:46

No thank you. Moderation on this site borders on the absurd. I won't be paying for Mumsnet to censor me.

Bunnyfuller · 08/04/2020 19:48

It’s a no from me. The advertising revenue they get should’ve come up with the edit facility so many have asked for for so long.

There are too many sites to go chat on. Rarely have I got specific information I’ve needed - it’s all opinions.

There’s a certain vibe on MN, but even that has changed with recent changes on other forums and their people heading over here.

There needs to be something pretty vital for me to pay, and a chat forum isn’t it. Sorry MN, bad decision

Thatbloodybear · 08/04/2020 19:50

I probably would have done but they zapped my thread a few days ago, so I've got the arse now!

Becca19962014 · 08/04/2020 19:51

"help us keep the lights on"

Seriously? Turn them off and buy better quality energy saving bulbs then. It's British summer time. And I know what it takes to run a forum. I did it. Literally by myself for several years before becoming ill.

Some people are genuinely struggling to make ends meet right now, not just "keeping lights on"; terrified of their future, both health and finance wise and finding life increasingly difficult. Some of us have been trolled for discussing issues we have with regard to the current situation and that has been upheld by MNHQ.

Thinking about this and deciding what I'm going to do is approx no. 500 on my list of priorities atm.

I'll probably switch the ad blocker off.

We have lost 80% of our household income with more to be lost shortly when I get furloughed.

My priorities are my family and friends not suffering too much.

NerrSnerr · 08/04/2020 19:53

I have subscribed. MN has been a source of support through some tough times. I'm working more hours than ever at present and as I'm not paying for things like the gym, swimming lessons etc so have some spare cash.

Paintedmaypole · 08/04/2020 19:55

No. This could help me break the addiction and spend my time more productively.

Justanotherlurker · 08/04/2020 19:56

That’s a ridiculous price for a site with very limited functionality, and poor moderation.

It's a ridiculous price for a forum full stop, it is kicking the can down the road of a whole host of issues, some are already hinting at wanting special privileges to highly touchy subjects and inferring a preface of "if I subscribe does that mean x discussion can be suppressed", that will only increase with the paid user base(and we have seen how out of touch MN has been politically for over a decade).

It also not MN offering the support so the sycophantic users who openly have pledged support is irrelevant, it is the posters who are doing it for free, just the same as they are on other forums, they are hosting a platform, it's a business decision first and foremost, and one that looks as though it has been on the cards for some time.

This is nothing more than a disguised go fund me with added caveats of some at the top wanting to cash out.

Rosa · 08/04/2020 19:56

about 10 years ago probably , sorry not now other priorities right now we are worried about where the next money will come from so I cannot justify £5 a month

BeijingBikini · 08/04/2020 19:58

Apparently 200 odd people have already subscribed. I'm amazed at how many people have willingly handed over money without knowing all the information. hmm

Probably all those who boast about their husband's "high 6 figure" salary and how they don't need to work!

Also, there's thing that blocks ads for free that you can add to your browser in seconds....called AdBlock.

MouthBreathingRage · 08/04/2020 19:58

@NerrSnerr, surely it's the posters of MN that have done that, yet the cash doesn't go to them. There are other forums that can offer the same for free.

LaurieMarlow · 08/04/2020 20:00

No way. This place is a big enough distraction as it is, I’m not bloody paying for it.

I might get something done if it throws me out.

GabsAlot · 08/04/2020 20:00

so we have to pay for an edit button they refused to do before

LaurieMarlow · 08/04/2020 20:00

Or move to reddit Grin

Justanotherlurker · 08/04/2020 20:02

Probably all those who boast about their husband's "high 6 figure" salary and how they don't need to work!

Meh, there is always plenty of gullible, look at all the go fund me's that raise cash.

50% will be expecting special privileges, some will expect some kind of recognition of it and the rest are probably on gin.
