I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

Lets be real Reddit is 100x the better model.

Better forum layout. You can actually edit your posts. You can reply to a specific comment. Instead of 200 posts all saying exactly the same thing you can just upvote the post (similarly you can downvote bullshit)... and the moderators are generally better.

The only reason I stick around on Mumsnet is because of the people.

If everyone here moved over to Reddit you wouldn't see me for dust.

So... I would pay but I don't really understand WHAT I'm paying for. This place is 100% user generated content. Maybe if they actually invested in the forum I'd be tempted to invest in them. But they don't.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 08/04/2020 17:46

I wouldn't normally pay to use a website but I have been on Mumsnet for 15 years. I read it every day and it's the only site I enjoy so yes I think I will given the circumstances.

MrsDesireeCarthorse · 08/04/2020 17:47

No. I get sucked into way too much pointless crap. "AIBU to think we should try to avoid spreading Coronavirus?". Fuck off!!!

Janaih · 08/04/2020 17:47

Cant help feeling mumsnet premium was always on the cards, this is just an opportune moment to dish out the flannel.

Think a crowdfunder with tiers might have worked better.

longwayoff · 08/04/2020 17:49

Not a chance. All the witty women have fled leaving only embittered and humourless old hags like me here. Will be useful in reminding me to leave.

RaininSummer · 08/04/2020 17:50

Nope. Will just find another forum to read.

LostInTheWoods1 · 08/04/2020 17:52

We provide the content and pay for the privilege to do so? I paid £50 for Disney plus, I’m not providing the content.

This will put me off posting, it just creates a 2 tier system. No thanks. You’ve really missed the mark here I’m afraid.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 08/04/2020 17:52

I won't be paying. There's other forums out there.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 08/04/2020 17:53

The issue with a Mumsnet subscription is that we aleady 'pay' in that we provide the content.

This! I think MN could well shoot themselves in the foot with this. Maybe even the head.

Epos · 08/04/2020 17:53

I don’t understand why people are checking companies house. MN is a business. Not a charity.

middleager · 08/04/2020 17:54

If they reinstate LangCleg then I'm in.

slipperywhensparticus · 08/04/2020 17:54

No personally I'm disagreeing with lot on here lately so I would be a mad fool to waste money on what is mostly an echo chamber these days

Worriedmom2020 · 08/04/2020 17:55

I would prefer a chance to donate what I want

longwayoff · 08/04/2020 17:58

In fact I 'll probably subscribe to Private Eye instead. Worth it.

WorraLiberty · 08/04/2020 17:58

I wonder if gremlins are at play on this thread?

I've had the weirdest inbox from someone Confused

Subject: Upset vegan
Date:Wed 08-Apr-20 15:01:03

Hi, your post about mumsnet premium was offensive. Please delete.

Firstly, I don't know what vegans have to do with anything and secondly, how is this thread offensive?

I did reply asking this but they must've gone offline as they haven't replied.

Sadly, I will not be joining. The price for me in the US will be $10. I just can’t see paying the fee when everyone except my husband has been put on furlough.

As a pp mentioned Reddit is free and has an excellent edit button.

This makes me sad

CoolCarrie · 08/04/2020 17:59

You banned LangCleg for no good reason, so if you’re willing to reinstate her , if she wants to return, then yes, if not then no, simple as that.

Beautiful3 · 08/04/2020 18:01

No.

Eggcited · 08/04/2020 18:01

Im going to sound like whinging child now, but on the other thread Justine has a fancy quote feature. I'm actually jealous, and I want it. (stamps foot)

alloutoffucks · 08/04/2020 18:01

@epos Of course it is a business. But a business that is asking us to pay in a kind of a please support us way. So the fact it had 2.2 million profit after tax in 2018 is relevant.
This is not being marketed as - pay us this and get there amazing benefits. That is a business proposition. It is being marketed almost how a charity would market in a please support us kind of way.

KitKat1985 · 08/04/2020 18:02

Probably not to be honest. I sympathise with the situation but I'd rather give a one off donation than a monthly subscription, and there's so many other charities and organisations probably who deserve me to give them a fiver a month if I was to give money to anyone. Also I keep meaning to reduce my usage (I once had a Mumsnet free month and it was much more productive for me if I'm honest).

BeijingBikini · 08/04/2020 18:02

Reddit has a lot better layout.

My biggest gripe with Mumsnet is that threads have to be "current", and if they haven't been replied to in over a week, they're now a ZOMBIE THREAD and you get told off for posting and encouraged to make a new one. Which means when you Google a topic, like "St XYZ school", you get about 30 threads of about 3 posts each to read through.

Whereas on other forums, like TheStudentRoom/MSE/HousePriceCrash, there is just 1 megathread for a particular topic and it doesn't matter how old it is.

sugarcherry · 08/04/2020 18:03

I'll pay, happily

NoSauce · 08/04/2020 18:04

No I won’t be. I’m spending less and less time on here these days for various reasons, the main one being that there are too many trolls, goady fuckers, whiners and arse lickers.

When you email in with your concerns you’re either given the standard email of “ thanks we will take a look “ or that they understand my concerns but there’s nothing to suggest it’s a troll, only for the thread to quite often be deleted because the OP is worried about being “outed”.

Mnhq never really hold their hands up and say they got it wrong.

I think a lot of members will leave and go elsewhere if I’m honest.
