I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

Who’s LangCleg? I can’t even search their posts as that feature has mysteriously disappeared with expert timing 😂

katiegoestoaldi · 08/04/2020 17:24

Nope, not getting my money with the way they have operated in the Meghan and Harry threads and the Feminism board, the way they have treated some of the posters on the latter has been shocking

tararabumdeay · 08/04/2020 17:24

Sorry no. Mrs Mumsnet and the bowing to the Queen probably put it on a different level to me.

If I had a spare fiver a month I probably put it towards union fees.

Magickl · 08/04/2020 17:25

No, I wouldn't pay. I'm only interested in the contributions other users make to discussions. Mumsnet doesn't pay them for their time spent posting.

Eggcited · 08/04/2020 17:26

The cynic in me wonders if this will be a paid for feature.

Pinkblueberry · 08/04/2020 17:28

To be honest I’ve only been back on since a few days ago because of Covid, I stopped using MN since Christmas. Didn’t miss it - it just fills a bit of time for now - time that’s usually spent doing better things really.

Saucery · 08/04/2020 17:28

It will be interesting to see all the exchanges like:

Why have you posted yet another thread about X, Y, Z?

Err, because I’m a non-paying pleb without a Search Function?

Grin
youllhavehadyourtea · 08/04/2020 17:29

nope.

DH's industry has totally collapsed and I've lost half my hours.

We have six people to feed.

So no, I'm not going to pay.

PennyNotSoWise · 08/04/2020 17:31

I'm on the fence a bit.

I'd happily donate regularly but anonymously, rather than subscribing and having my RL details linked to my username. I know it's been said it will go through STRIPE (?) but it doesn't reassure me that my details will be safe tbh.

GarlicBreadItsTheFuture · 08/04/2020 17:31

No - it will be interesting to look at their 2019 accounts - they have changed the company structure, added a holding company and there are some charges registered at companies house. This doesn't look like a COVID problem

wildcherries · 08/04/2020 17:34

Absolutely not for the reasons stated by PP. I asked for an edit button way back and was told it wasn't possible. I obviously knew this was bullshit as so many other forums have one, and now they can magic one up if I fork out £50 a year. It's ridiculous, and the timing is awful.

MN is not essential, for me, and I already have to tighten the budget.

LannieDuck · 08/04/2020 17:34

Price point is too high for a version that doesn’t give me anything I need. £15 a year, then I would.

alloutoffucks · 08/04/2020 17:35

@garlicbread Could you explain what that means?
I see they had an after tax profit of 2.2 million in 2018, so they look as if there is lots of leeway for tougher times.

CobyKnobe · 08/04/2020 17:36

No - it will be interesting to look at their 2019 accounts - they have changed the company structure, added a holding company and there are some charges registered at companies house.

Can you explain? Tax avoidance?

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 08/04/2020 17:37

I'm concerned if it's going create a them and us issue.
Or say a vulnerable young mum who has turned to mn for advice won't be given the same advice will be judged because she hasn't paid to be user

CobyKnobe · 08/04/2020 17:37

Apparently they've made over 2 million in profits for the last two years

Saladaysior · 08/04/2020 17:37

No. That is all.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/04/2020 17:39

What does a holding company do @GarlicBreadItsTheFuture?

I think for one thing they could probably ditch the expensive office. I am sure most people could work from home so it's a luxury to hold onto a space that's not really needed. That would save lots of money. Yes, and a reckoning of which members of staff are really needed.

GlitchStitch · 08/04/2020 17:40

No I won't be. It's too expensive, but I might have paid something 5 or 6 years ago. Not anymore though, too many trolls, perverts, dodgy moderating decisions and unfair bannings. I also don't agree with non members being encouraged to report posts.

managedmis · 08/04/2020 17:40

Seems dear to me tbh

Crystal87 · 08/04/2020 17:42

No. Agree with the poster who said they think of coming off here sometimes and that charging would be the push to leave.

managedmis · 08/04/2020 17:43

@GarlicBreadItsTheFuture

and there are some charges registered at companies house.

^

Does this mean that they'll be more profitable? I don't understand the terminology?

alloutoffucks · 08/04/2020 17:43

To those asking what staff do. I suspect nearly all staff are selling adverts.

Clymene · 08/04/2020 17:43

Not when they are going to have to link my user name with my real name and financial details (which is the only way they're going to be able to link users with the premium content).

After the doxxing and the poisonous intern, I'm not very confident about security.

Davespecifico · 08/04/2020 17:43

I don’t think I shouldn’t, but I probably won’t.
