I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

No

DameXanaduBramble · 08/04/2020 16:56

No way! It’d be a good opportunity to step away for good.

CobyKnobe · 08/04/2020 16:57

thank you @Saucery Cake

cabbageking · 08/04/2020 16:57

Simply answer No.

I would go elsewhere.

minipie · 08/04/2020 16:58

No. I am a big fan of MN in many ways but I don’t pay for TV never mind for a chat forum.

I cannot believe MN has 100 staff (if that’s correct, mentioned in a post above)... What do they all DO?

Smellbellina · 08/04/2020 16:58

No, I’m just not that invested to be honest. And I don’t mind ads. The more they’re tailored to me the more happy with life I am. I love ALL cookies 🍪

FunkyKingston · 08/04/2020 16:58

87 company employees

Doing what?

WhenItIsOver · 08/04/2020 17:01

It is not viable for me to pay. I have been furloughed for one thing and have had to give up donations to charities that are close to my heart so paying for MN is not going to happen.

I am also concerned about the security on this site, and have left a couple of times because of it so another reason not to.

I would miss it, but not enough to pay for it. And I absolutely detest all the ads that even when you report them they still flash and wink and are not closeable by a little cross in the corner.

Plus there are a good few features that plain do not work and wouldn't pay for a site that is not able to fix tech problems.

Sorry MN.

I haven't voted because I have it disabled. I find the intrusion of the voting button annoying.

custodiandiscount · 08/04/2020 17:01

What tone deaf timing - millions of people have lost jobs or have reduced income and they want to start charging for a service where users generate content?!

It'll get me off here though so I can use my time more productively. So probably a good idea...

kerrymucklowe2020 · 08/04/2020 17:01

Just the push I need- thanks MN

C130 · 08/04/2020 17:03

No

midsomermurderess · 08/04/2020 17:05

No. It's not worth it. There is so much click-bait nonsense nowadays. Some boards are quite fun, Relationships can provide good support in parts. But so much, and it's become so apparent recently, is pointless whinging and bickering and a lot of rather silly women who seem incapable of making decisions for themselves and who need validation from strangers. It's had its day.

Purplewithred · 08/04/2020 17:05

If Mumsnet had been around when I was young I would have escaped my unhappy marriage an awful lot sooner and I'd have been a more competent, confident mum too. I want that support to be there for today's mums who need it. I can afford to pay, I see it as a donation, it's done.

Lefkosia · 08/04/2020 17:07

Sounds like MN needs a restructure - what on earth do these 87 people do all day to warrant that bill?

Anyway I won't be paying and I won't be getting rid of my adblocker.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 08/04/2020 17:08

It's the Disney Plus comparison that makes it a joke really.

The archive of one of the worlds leading entertainment conglomerates without ads vs the dubious "hilarity" of I snapped and farted with less but not zero ads

Emperors New Clothes

Hugely overestimated pricepoint

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:09

Will people be less likely to be banned if they have paid a subscription?

Pluckedpencil · 08/04/2020 17:11

No. I'm not paying to talk bollocks with you lot, I'm sorry. Also, if we have too pay it will become fewer people and I actually like the anonymity and size of Mumsnet.

NewtonPulsifer · 08/04/2020 17:11

No. I won’t be paying. Every £ we spend has to be accounted for. It isn’t worth it for me to pay. Been here a long time, but if it is going behind a pay wall, or we end up with second class service then I will be off.

AlternativePerspective · 08/04/2020 17:12

Back in the day MN used to have something called Cat which was a fiver a year and which mn’ers could pay to be allowed to send PM’s. I believe they got rid because not enough people were prepared to pay for it. And that was only a fiver a year....

BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/04/2020 17:14

I can see both sides. I was a moderator on a large board (albeit not quite so big as MN) and we had to introduce charges to cover the running costs - IIRC it was £10 a year. MN is obviously a much bigger operation with staff so yeah, I can see why the costs are higher (although they have ad income, which we didn't).

It does seem a bit steep though, considering that the users generate the content that's attracting the ads and I'd imagine that the site is getting heavier traffic what with everyone 'working at home' or being furloughed, and the frothing maelstrom that is the new Coronavirus topic.

I may well subscribe for a month or so, but I see it as more of a donation to a site that's entertained me extensively over the last few years. It might have been better to offer options like the Guardian - offer both a set donation of £5/£10/other a month on a subscription basis and one-off donations. Offering a premium service when it doesn't really seem that premium is perhaps a bit of a misstep?

TheMustressMhor · 08/04/2020 17:16

Tell us, MN.

Are you willing to let LangCleg back?

I will pay, if so.

ukgift2016 · 08/04/2020 17:17

Unlikely but I think asking for donations would been a better route.

I am also worried about data protection.

Straycatstrut · 08/04/2020 17:19

No. Single mum, just lost my job, two kids and a 10 month old pup to feed. Need to feed myself a bit too.

I rely on MN for my only socialisation. No friends. Not much family support and was abused a lot in my past. I can't afford to pay for it though.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/04/2020 17:20

no way
