I'm not sure yet but I'll probably pay for a month and then see what other features they bring in.

Thread by Justine incase you haven't seen it

YABU = No

YANBU = Yes, I might give it a try

Nopes I am not paying, sorry off to join something else

That or Disney...

SlipSlidin · 08/04/2020 16:08

The “moderation” is arbitrary at the best of times. Dreadful threads are left to stand while others get zapped for no apparent reason.

If someone is paying to chat shit on here there’s no way they’ll get deleted or banned.

Interestedwoman · 08/04/2020 16:09

I just paid for a year. It's not about the benefits of it to me, it's about supporting a site that has helped so many women including myself, particularly at this time when things will be more difficult for the site financially.

Eggcited · 08/04/2020 16:10

I think you have lost a lot of sympathy with that monthly wages bill

Agreed. I'm not saying people should be out of a job. But given the wages alone are 350k a month, then there has to be a heck of a lot they could do to reduce their monthly outgoings.

BeijingBikini · 08/04/2020 16:10

Also, how on earth can you charge for being ad-free, when ANYONE can get Adblock for free in about 10 seconds?

PleaseStopCrying · 08/04/2020 16:10

I think you have lost a lot of sympathy with that monthly wages bill.

I honestly cannot work out how its so high. Literally every scenario I can think of doesnt require anywhere that amount. There must loads of people taking a huge helping from the wage pot each month and doing fuck all.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/04/2020 16:11

Isn't this an issue with building your business model to so heavily rely on ad revenue?

FortunesFave · 08/04/2020 16:12

Bikini oh Justine said something about people "not paying their way" when they use Adblockers.

Hmm
FortunesFave · 08/04/2020 16:12

NewModel well a lot of businesses do...it does seem shortsighted now you mention it.

wonkylegs · 08/04/2020 16:13

Nope can't afford it, my industry is going to hit deep recession from this so it's tighten belts time even with a stable income from DH.

mumofthreesmallmen3 · 08/04/2020 16:13

No..I couldnt justify the cost at the moment even if only 5 a week

Freshstart40 · 08/04/2020 16:14

I'm a huge fan of the site but unfortunately finances dictate at the moment.

CobyKnobe · 08/04/2020 16:14

I'm struggling to see where all the money goes, because it's not on tech people to add the basic features you'd expect to the site or make it secure. No other forum I've been on has been hacked as much and is so lacking in features. But I still keep coming here, less so thesedays though

canigooutyet · 08/04/2020 16:14

£50 a year 🤣🤣🤣 I needed a laugh
Not a chance. If this was the only forum out there, then yea maybe.

I have my own site. I’m not asking people to help fund it.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 08/04/2020 16:16

For those who are wondering why MN is in such a black hole at the moment, my business also depends on ad revenue and around 73% of businesses have now paused or massively reduced their ad spend.

With no one paying for ads, competition for clicks is less. This means advertisers who are still running their ads are paying a lot less per click.

With lots of businesses closed, the first thing to stop is marketing and ad spend. It makes perfect sense that this would have a knock on effect for places like forums, online newspapers and anyone else that depends on ad revenue.

I don’t think £4.99 a month is terrible as I know roughly how much they’d make per 1,000 page views and god knows most of us do at least a thousand page views a month on AIBU alone!

canigooutyet · 08/04/2020 16:16

Posted to o quick.
Instead my profits will take a hammering, and reducing as much cost as possible.

It’s easy for anyone to check the traffic for this place.

Greenpop21 · 08/04/2020 16:17

I need a good reason to use this site less. Charging could be it. As I read it though it’s still available free so seems unfair to take premiums from some and not others. Have I missed something?

AlternativePerspective · 08/04/2020 16:17

£350k a month? So that’s an annual wage bill of £4.2m Shock let’s not pretend that this is someone’s business keeping food on their table

In order to just meet the wage bill 70000 users will need to subscribe.

And that’s assuming all those users stay subscribed which they won’t.

This clearly isn’t about lost revenue. There isn’t going to be enough subscription to even scratch the surface, so what is it really about?

Somerville · 08/04/2020 16:17

Also, how on earth can you charge for being ad-free, when ANYONE can get Adblock for free in about 10 seconds?
A poster mentioned Adblock to Justine and got told off for sponging. At which the poster announced she was deleting her account, and flounced. That thread only needs popcorn to become decent entertainment.

Outtedagain · 08/04/2020 16:18

Terrible idea. Goady troll threads how do you keep those few payers off. Keep their money .... actually it could keep away but tbh sometimes a troll thread is highly entertaining

mochojoes · 08/04/2020 16:18

For that size wage bill surely staff numbers must be minimum 120 people

Walkthedinosauuuuur · 08/04/2020 16:19

I'd hope for the app to work too since it's currently a bag of wank

Queenlish · 08/04/2020 16:20

That's a very high wage bill when most of the mods are volunteers.

Where is the money going? I doubt very much that Justine and co are on the brink of losing their homes, lost their jobs, struggling to get food, on the bones of their arses financially.

The moderation is quite hit and miss. There are certain things/people we are unable to talk about, Jack Malone for example. Paying for that kind of censorship seems wrong.

Since the threads on here are lifted so much for the tabloids why don't you get them to put their hands in their pockets?

If mumsnet had asked for donations then that would be different, but to create a 2 tier user level just seems very wrong.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 08/04/2020 16:21

No I won’t pay. You want to create a two tier organisation that will discriminate against those who cannot afford to pay, and that offers a superior ‘experience’ to the more affluent.
Sad, especially as it will be to the detriment of so many.

mochojoes · 08/04/2020 16:21

£350k a month? So that’s an annual wage bill of £4.2m

And those wage costs are deducted before profit. The rest of their costs much be very low.
