Disgusting behavior in swimming pool changing rooms!

Returned to the U.K. a few months ago and took the kids swimming to an indoor water park with a ‘changing village’.

The facilities were not sex separated and everyone goes into cubicles to change. And that is when things got nasty.

Instead of having a decent shower and getting clean before entering the pool people just stood under a shower IN THEIR SWIMWEAR for a few seconds. No attempt made to wash sweaty bum cracks or armpits. Most women did not even bother to wet their hair!

How horrible to swim in a soup of shit, smeg, sweat, hairspray and toe-jam. This also meant the amount of chlorine in the water was insane, burned my eyes and I nearly crashed the car on the way home!

Who thinks this is a good way to do things???

eww our local pool has a sauna, i think you are meant to at least stand under the cold shower but i doubt this happens

shinyredbus · 08/04/2020 13:15

IrisAtwood · 08/04/2020 13:15

I don’t use swimming pools. They just seem like giant, warm petri dishes full of pathogens. And if there is enough chlorine, it is so unpleasant that I’d rather wash my face with neat Zoflora.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 08/04/2020 13:16

Why bring this up now, two and bit weeks into a lockdown?

This - WTF, swimming pools haven't been open for weeks around here, I had to check the date just to make sure it wasn't a zombie!

People stood under a shower IN THEIR SWIMWEAR?!
Noes, the horror Confused
Seems like everyone was doing exactly what they were supposed to do then.
Or do you mean that you think everybody should be stood around in the nip instead?
As I can't see any threads being started on here if that was the case, oh no - no OMG I was in the swimming pool and somebody had their BUM OUT won't you think of the children?!
Grin

Fluffybutter · 08/04/2020 13:16

Maybe you should’ve started a thread about how fabulous your life is instead ?
We’d all want to hear about that

bringincrazyback · 08/04/2020 13:17

Would you have preferred them to use the communal showers naked?

This, in a nutshell, but I don't see the need for piling on to the OP because she has a concern about something other than the virus atm. Some people don't seem to want any of us to be allowed to think about anything else.

bringincrazyback · 08/04/2020 13:17

^ Just to clarify, when I say 'this', I don't mean I'd rather they showered naked (ick!) - I'm echoing the sentiment I quoted.

FreakStar · 08/04/2020 13:17

Op- where have you come from?

Maybe we could link the topic to the virus by thinking about the following questions to make it more 'relevant' ?:
do you think chlorine will kill off Coronavirus?
when do you think pools will open?
can the virus be spread through bottom excretions as well as mouth, nose, eyes?

MamaBearOnLockdown · 08/04/2020 13:18

We can go out as much as we like
so why are things "a bit boring"?

I call BS

MamaBearOnLockdown · 08/04/2020 13:19

do you think chlorine will kill off Coronavirus?
that would be great!

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 08/04/2020 13:19

Think sweaty, smeggy, jammy bumcracks are really the least of our problems now :-D

Bleeeeeee thanks for that mental image lol

Tsubasa1 · 08/04/2020 13:20

How am I supposed to clean my arse crack with my swinsuit on??

1300cakes · 08/04/2020 13:21

Can't say it bothers me, I mean if you've decided to go in to a bath with dozens/hundreds of other humans you've accepted you'll be swimming in some level of dirt. Luckily our bodies are more than resilient enough to cope with such a situation.

WakeAndBake · 08/04/2020 13:21

@freak I am sure the chlorine will kill the virus. So would a soapy shower. I hope the pools open soon but think it will be after summer. I have heard that the virus can be transmitted fecally. Thanks for the corona shoehorn!

We went to Iceland several years ago now and went to several swimming pools. I had no issue with the showering naked thing, the changing rooms were spotless and as they had a separate drying off area after the showers and strict no outside shoe rule it meant that that altogether the whole experience was much more pleasant - no dodging pools of water etc. There was no attendant in the smaller swimming pools. The swimming pools were much cleaner than here in the UK.
Not something I’d do in the UK though! Not unless we had proper single sex changing rooms and showers with female attendants.

1300cakes · 08/04/2020 13:25

Or do you mean that you think everybody should be stood around in the nip instead?

Can't please everyone, can you. This OP says people aren't naked enough.

Then we have the thread from a few weeks ago where the OP was livid that a man got briefly naked while changing in the men's changing room at the pool. OP (a women) was just hanging out in the men's as it was warmer apparently.

WakeAndBake · 08/04/2020 13:26

@mamabear. We can go out but everything is shut. There are no gatherings or parties or events to go to. We can sit in the park in the sun which is nice.

But we are not socializing with friends and it is a bit boring now after three weeks.

OP posts:
Moooooooooooooooooo · 08/04/2020 13:27

Oooooooh, I do hope you’ve never been swimming (or paddling) in the sea. You really don’t want to know what’s in there Grin

MasakaBuzz · 08/04/2020 13:27

In normal times I don’t shower before getting in the pool, other than a quick rinse, because I have usually come from the bath to the pool.

Srslydontgiveacrap · 08/04/2020 13:31

@WakeAndBake

You can go out once per day, dear. Not as much as you like Hmm and sitting in a park is a definite no-no

EricaNernie · 08/04/2020 13:32

my dd told me a month ago that chlorine killed covid19, she read it!
i didnt want to take the chance and lo the pools closed

user3274826 · 08/04/2020 13:33

Public naked showering?! Being left with all the kids (girls) on my own while DP went to a seperate men's section? Ew no thank you. I'm very happy with the seperate family cubicles and high chlorine levels thank you very much.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 08/04/2020 13:33

I swim in a private club - I don't shower before I get in the pool because I will have just got up, showered at home, put on my swimsuit and a dress over the top - and driven to the pool.

Why would I shower again?

If you want a discussion rather than a 'point and laugh' thread, OP, perhaps word it differently?

ittakes2 · 08/04/2020 13:34

I shower at home before I put my swimwear on.

Popuppippa · 08/04/2020 13:34

Be thankful you weren't in the pool we were at in France.

An actual small child-sized turd floated past me in the shallow end. I immediately told the Lifeguard thinking they would shut down the pool. No, that didn't happen. He shrugged, scooped out the turd with a net, and we make a very quick exit. Bleurggh.
