I've just seen this in my FB page.
A local group has shared it.
'Clap for Boris' (see pic) Tonight 8pm.
Human to human, I wish him well & a full recovery but I won't be clapping... Hmm

Would it be unreasonable of me not to 'clap for Boris' tonight?

@VegetableMunge, I know this isn't the time for jokes but that did make me giggle. Goodness knows the man has a few spread around.....

nobodyimportant · 07/04/2020 19:27

Has our NHS been overwhelmed?

Now let's see. People with cancer having their surgery cancelled, people in care homes being left there to die instead of being taken into hospital, decisions having to be made about who does and does not get treatment. Yes, I'd say they are overwhelmed.

nobodyimportant · 07/04/2020 19:42

he won by a landslide so the majority of decent working people support him.

2019 election:
CONConservative................................43.6%
LABLabour...........................................32.2%
LDLiberal Democrat............................11.5%
SNPScottish National Party...............3.9%
GRNGreen...........................................2.7%
BRXThe Brexit Party...........................2.0%

More people voted for other parties than voted for Conservatives, not a majority.

UK vote share change since 2017:

Liberal Democrat............................+4.2
The Brexit Party..............................+2.0
Conservative..................................+1.2
Green..............................................+1.1
Scottish National Party..................+0.8
Labour.............................................-7.8

So the Conservatives only gained a little over 1% of the vote share since the previous election. It really wasn't a landslide. They only did so well out of it because Labour results were abysmal.

Just to give a little perspective.

Poetryinaction · 07/04/2020 19:43

Why do all the claps have to be at 8pm, when the kids have just got into bed??

LimescaleCowboy · 07/04/2020 19:54

I have my front room bedroom window open, where I am ensconced, to listen to the eight o'clock silence in my very normal neighborhood

Charlottejbt · 07/04/2020 19:57

If I clap tonight, it's just me swatting a moth (bloody things). I'm now paranoid someone will hear and think I'm a Johnson groupie.

SarahInAccounts · 07/04/2020 20:02

Pleasingly silent in the village.

CanofCant · 07/04/2020 20:02

LimescaleCowboy no clapping here either thankfully. All very quiet.

MerryDeath · 07/04/2020 20:02

IS THIS REAL

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 07/04/2020 20:03

I live in a very middle class suburb of our city. There was no clapping at all. Total silence.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 07/04/2020 20:03

Nope. No clapping here. I have the windows open. Just birdsong.

MouthBreathingRage · 07/04/2020 20:04

Well that was fun. Absolutely no one on my street came out, bar one neighbour who 'conveniently' had a bit of rubbish to put in their bin at 8pm sharp. They had a good look around before going back in. Oh dear.

ChrissieKeller61 · 07/04/2020 20:04

Delighted to report no twats live on our road either

TheThingWithFeathers · 07/04/2020 20:04

Totally silent here.

1066vegan · 07/04/2020 20:05

Silent here as well. There's been loud clapping for NHS and key workers on previous weeks.

Shmithecat2 · 07/04/2020 20:05

Was some clapping here, which I was happy to join in with. Small village in Wiltshire, Tory stronghold since God was a boy. I'm quite pleased.

MarieQueenofScots · 07/04/2020 20:05

Very middle class Tory heartland here. Deathly silence.

LimescaleCowboy · 07/04/2020 20:06

Oh dear that was embarrassing.

One slightly drunk household shouted 'Come on Boris' for about ten seconds in their garden and ran inside when no-one else joined in.

Total silence on our road, and it's quite a long one.

VegetableMunge · 07/04/2020 20:07

Heard nothing except what sounded like a fight in the distance. There was a significant turnout for ths NHS clapping though, so perhaps my neighbours aren't massive hypocrites.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 07/04/2020 20:08

Silence here too

RosieLancs · 07/04/2020 20:09

No clapping here in my bit of Portsmouth on the south coast. Ridiculous notion.

mbosnz · 07/04/2020 20:11

Same here. Lovely to hear the birds sing goodnight.

LimescaleCowboy · 07/04/2020 20:12

And, in further entertainment news, at 8pm on the dot a crow flew over and cawed very loudly, which I take as a sign that this planet is bigger than we can ever imagine. Or something.
