I cannot stand the man's politics but I find myself conflicted. I don't want anyone to die but his policies have killed people.

I hope he appreciates the NHS and regrets cheering to not give nurses a pay rise.

I did wonder why he had gone to an NHS hospital, although they will have private patients.

Actually I have just checked, the hospital he is in has suspended private work.

NothingButTheOceanBlue · 07/04/2020 08:09

You would be much better off in an NHS hospital for something like this. Even in normal times, private hospitals often transfer the critically ill to NHS hospitals because they are much better equipped to deal with emergency medicine. It's the same in a lot of countries. All of the teaching hospitals are public hospitals so they are far better at this sort of thing.

I think at present there is no such thing as 'private care' for COVID-19.

Itsjustthesame · 07/04/2020 08:13

@NothingButTheOceanBlue St Thomas’s do have private rooms (I’ve been in one), which I guess he was in - that’s why I asked about the ICU - it’s something I’m totally unfamiliar with.

Peapod29 · 07/04/2020 08:17

I am mainly raging at the lack of honesty.

It does seem silly. They can’t have thought he would make some miraculously quick recovery so I don’t know why they kept the pretence up. Russian media reported he was in ICU some time before here. Would they even have told us this soon if it hadn’t been leaked? I understand not wanting the public to panic but we do need to know if the PM is completely incapacitated in a crisis. I do wish him a good recovery.

TwentyViginti · 07/04/2020 08:18

Let’s not start deifying him

I agree. NHS staff are becoming ill and dying fighting the effects of this virus on behalf of us all. Boris waffled and prevaricated far too long on taking robust steps to slow the spread of covid-19. Business before lives was the initial response.

I hope he recovers as I hope as many victims as possible recover, but let's not pretend he is goodness incarnate.

NothingButTheOceanBlue · 07/04/2020 08:18

I notice the message has changed again this morning - they are now saying he was conscious when admitted to ICU but no longer confirming he is conscious now.

GalOopNorth · 07/04/2020 08:21

Gove on R4 sounds breathless and keeps clearing his throat. I wonder whether other members of the cabinet will go down with it too.

Hope Boris is ok.

Xenia · 07/04/2020 08:23

I hope he pulls through and does not have to go on to a ventilator. Apparently he had about a quarter of the amount of oxygen of most ICU patients last night so may be that means he is not the very worst case.

BornfreebutinCovidChains · 07/04/2020 08:23

Twenty that's utter crap.
Boris is well known for his delegation and he has two chief officer's for the science and medical.

Of course he is going to defer and listen to his chiefs! One of whom is, sir Patrick valance who assured Boris and the Cabinet that his models say blah.

Is needing 4 litres of oxygen bad?

Walkingtohealth · 07/04/2020 08:24

I’d say he was being ventilated now. If that’s the case then he needs three weeks of heavy sedation. Raab is now PM in his place until Boris recovers or dies. I’m opting hopefully for a full recovery and then at least a year out.

BornfreebutinCovidChains · 07/04/2020 08:24

Gal, I must admit I didn't think raab looked well, he had red eyes, sore eyes can also be sign of covid.

VikVal81 · 07/04/2020 08:26

@sashh

You're conflicted? This is a human life, regardless of your personal opinion and your perception of policies etc, there should be no conflict. As a civilised human being, you should not want someone to die from this period. I think your comment says more about you as a person than it does about Boris. I'm no fan of Boris or indeed of the political theatre in general, but if he dies it will cause panic and fear while at the same time leave a pregnant woman widowed and an unborn baby without a father. That's to add to the fact that Boris is no better or worse than any other PM since I've been on this planet for almost 40 years and he is simply a life and a life that does not deserve to suffer and die at the hands of this disease.

vanillandhoney · 07/04/2020 08:27

Someone said yesterday Raab had been crying.

Let's be fair, he must be terrified. The PM is in ICU and possibly no longer conscious and he's now left running the country in his absence. I don't like the man but I really don't envy his position. He must be shitting himself.

BornfreebutinCovidChains · 07/04/2020 08:30

And he was pledging to build loads more hospital which we desperately needed.

Maybe won't be the money therefore now but the will was.

This virus can go up and down.
Any threads on here show how people get better, then feel suddenly worse.. I had the same last week with a migraine. I was OK for a couple of hours in the morning, then I was suddenly in so much pain I had to lie down immediately and I could barley let my colleagues know!

He's obviously battled on, alone.. Didn't know how ill he was and now he's so ill he needs help!. What's so hard to understand?

Rhea1981 · 07/04/2020 08:31

Sashh how exactly do you think boris' politics has killed people?

BornfreebutinCovidChains · 07/04/2020 08:32

We have no idea whether raab had been crying or, he has hay-fever or indeed covid!

Rhea1981 · 07/04/2020 08:33

Policies not politics

AnyFucker · 07/04/2020 08:34

Raab looked like a rabbit in the headlights yesterday. Like he was in shock.

FeedMeSantiago · 07/04/2020 08:52

I wouldn't be surprised if Raab was in shock.

Boris is quite short - I attended a talk he did at Uni 14 years ago and walked past him and was surprised as he never looked short on the tv. So he wouldn't need to be that heavy to be overweight. He also has a stressful job with long hours.

I hope he recovers in the same way I hope everyone else with Covid-19 recovers. His children must be out of their minds with worry, and poor Carrie has to deal with this whilst pregnant and recovering from C-19 herself.

Cremebrule · 07/04/2020 08:58

NothingButTheOceanBlue Yes I think there were some very careful words this morning. Gove ok breakfast didn’t say much at all.

vanillandhoney · 07/04/2020 09:13

I've noticed the BBC bit on the website no longer says he's conscious.

Cailleach1 · 07/04/2020 09:47

I think Twenty was spot on. To paraphrase, you can hate the sin but still wish the sinner well in circumstances such as these. Maybe that exhibits more generosity than shown by many. To try to expunge facts is just dishonest. Also, to be expounding love is strange unless everyone here is a close friend or family. Then this coupled with lots of rabid retorts with use of name calling such crap, garbage, shitbag, and ffs. Just opinions by strangers, but such a quick use of vitriolic spitting language.

A poster recently said that care to patent in ITU is normally 1:1, but 1:6 right now. I wonder if the PM is getting the usual 1:1 or, if not, less than the 1:6. Maybe that is possibly where the level of attention would differ. Maybe if 1:6 works ok, there will be no reason to ever return to 1:1 again in the NHS.

I, in turn, hope as many people as possible recover from this virus and exposure of most vulnerable can be prevented or lowered. Everywhere. So no to 'sod the country' in any shape or form. Hope those elected and still healthy step up.

Cailleach1 · 07/04/2020 09:50

Should this be a Coronavirus thread rather than AIBU?

BornfreebutinCovidChains · 07/04/2020 09:54

Just how short is Boris!

Bluntness100 · 07/04/2020 10:00

He’s just over five foot seven according to google.
