To not walk down the shop to buy an icecream for my DH?

Knobblybobbly · 05/04/2020 16:06

My husband has taken himself off to sulk because I have refused to make the non-essential visit to our corner shop to buy him an icecream as part of my 1hr exercise.

I have point blank refused and he thinks I’m being over the top and ridiculous. He wont go though.....

Ice cream is hardly essential.

stripesareforlife · 05/04/2020 16:09

If your going out and walking past said shop why wouldn't you?

mencken · 05/04/2020 16:09

...because it is unnecessary contact with the shop staff.

this really isn't that difficult to understand. DO NOT 'POP IN' TO SHOPS!!

Knobblybobbly · 05/04/2020 16:10

Because it’s not essential. So that’s against the rules right?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/04/2020 16:11

Well no it’s not essential and people just nipping in a shop as “what’s the harm” is the very reason we are going to end up with our allowed exercise taken away!

No OP don’t do it, on the next shop trip he will have to put a tub in the trolley

Knobblybobbly · 05/04/2020 16:19

That’s good. He really made me question myself!

Well done OP absolutely right

Crafting1Queen · 05/04/2020 16:37

Well seeing he doesn't want to put himself at risk unnecessarily popping into the local corner shop to pick up a treat lol. Stick to your guns on this one Op, he's being a tad unreasonable.

TotesGodsWill · 05/04/2020 16:38

YANBU

If you were going to the shop for essentials then it would be ok to grab an inessential ice cream while you were there. But since you were just going on a social distanced walk it would be unreasonable to make an unnecessary visit to the shop with added contact with staff for the sake of an ice cream.

LavenderQuartz · 05/04/2020 16:41

@stripesareforlife do you really not understand or are you being deliberately goody?

LavenderQuartz · 05/04/2020 16:41

*goady

BigChocFrenzy · 05/04/2020 16:42

When he has his next exercise walk, he can exercise his muscles by getting a couple of big bags of shopping

  • plus his icecream.

Tbh I think you're being slightly OTT. We combine our shopping in our corner shop with our walk (rather than brave the supermarket). Yes I buy non essentials like chocolate. There is nothing in the rules to say you have to live in bl**dy gruel at the moment.

JosieJosie1 · 05/04/2020 16:49

Our local shop were telling us that idiots (their words) were coming in all last week for ice creams or just a bar of chocolate. She said they weren’t giving staff a chance. Next time you need to do a proper shop pick him up an ice cream until then maybe show him those videos of all the coffins in Italy and tell him to cop himself on and stop being a total moron.

StrongMama1989 · 05/04/2020 16:49

Are you walking past the shop on your walk OP?

Scrumbleton · 05/04/2020 16:49

I’m at my wits end of irritation with people popping to shops daily - which part of stay at home and essential outings only don’t they understand. Friends girlfriend has been out shopping every day as otherwise she’s bored at home. She’s also taking public transport regularly - she just doesn’t get that she could be a carrier. Quite right to refuse OP - people please try to shop once a week and STAY AT HOME

bridgetreilly · 05/04/2020 16:50

It's not an essential journey and it's not essential shopping and it's full of opportunities to spread the virus. OP, YANBU and your DH is an idiot.

Scrumbleton · 05/04/2020 16:51

Richwitch it’s not about living on gruel it’s about contact - you should ideally only shop weekly

No, but you are supposed to shop as infrequently as possible. It's fine to buy chocolate or icecream or whatever when you are shopping. It's not fine for the OP's husband to want her to go out and and get him one bloody ice cream.

1066vegan · 05/04/2020 16:53

@Richwitch Nobody is saying that you shouldn't buy treats. What people are saying is that you don't go into a shop just to get an ice-cream because it exposes both the shopper and the shop worker to unnecessary contact.

On the other hand, if you are going out to get your essential shopping, then there's nothing wrong with adding some ice-cream, chocolate, bottle of wine etc to the shopping basket.

Knobblybobbly · 05/04/2020 16:55

We did a huge click and collect shop on Friday, he’s just being a dick.

No not walking past the shop but we’re in a village and I could IYSWIM. But I prefer the walk by the fields to let my DD run around free from cars.

OP posts:
middleager · 05/04/2020 16:56

He needs to grow up.

Every time somebody has contact with shop staff for a paper or a choc ice it puts others at risk.

Tell him to buy a multi box in a big shop if need be or do without.

Ronia · 05/04/2020 16:57

I went to shop earlier to get essentials (bread and milk) and took opportunity to buy the kids' Easter eggs while there. There was no way I'd have gone into shop for the eggs alone though. Fine to pick up nonessential items while there anyway
