To not walk down the shop to buy an icecream for my DH?

Knobblybobbly · 05/04/2020 16:06

My husband has taken himself off to sulk because I have refused to make the non-essential visit to our corner shop to buy him an icecream as part of my 1hr exercise.

I have point blank refused and he thinks I’m being over the top and ridiculous. He wont go though.....

“It comes to something when you can’t even have an ICECREAM on a Sunday”

Yep, that something happens to be a global pandemic.

How about we all shop as infrequently as possible and keep the shopkeepers alive.

Dragongirl10 · 05/04/2020 18:08

What is so hard to understand about minimising the amount of trips to a shop/supermarket?

Each time you go it risks contagion. To the shop staff, anyone else there, those following after and you.

Meal plan and go once a week .

BlackandWhiteCat0 · 05/04/2020 18:11

It comes to something when you can’t even have an ICECREAM on a Sunday

You're out in the park sunbathing as you typed that, eh?

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/04/2020 18:17

It comes to something when you can’t even have an ICECREAM on a Sunday

Yes it does...Turn the tv on, listen to the news for a few minutes and you will see we are currently dealing with a horrible virus that has killed many, including nurses and young dc.

Someone nipping out to buy an ice cream is a selfish cunt and doesn’t deserve the help of health care professionals should they get this virus. Why should a health care work risk there life, for someone like that?

Wanting ice cream is absolutely fine, but buy some when you do your family shopping..you don’t make a trip for just an ice cream cos you fancy one

LockedInMadness · 05/04/2020 18:30

Yabu because you could easily walk past the shop instead on your allowed daily walk

Bloody hell, the stupid just keep coming Hmm

anothernotherone · 05/04/2020 18:38

There is a statistically significant correlation between people too determinedly ignorant and arrogant to read the thread and people too determinedly ignorant and arrogant to understand the way risk of spreading a virus increases exponentially with every unnecessary contact with another person such as a cashier.

BigChocFrenzy · 05/04/2020 18:48

"Yabu because you could easily walk past the shop instead on your allowed daily walk"

Back in the days before the virus, this would just have been a matter of adding a few minutes to the OP's walk

Unfortunately, she lacks a Tardis,
so these days she would be adding an additional source of possible infection for herself, the shop staff, other cutomers and all the families thereof

All for an overgrown toddler

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 05/04/2020 19:03

It’s good to support local shops.

Indeed it is and part of that support is taking into consideration the increased risk you pose to them if you insist on popping in for a bloody ice cream or soft drink, just because you fancy it.

Onecabbage · 05/04/2020 19:04

Sorry op, but where did you get “1 hour” from as your exercise allotment?

Missing point of rubbish thread.

AprilFloundering · 05/04/2020 19:10

Even better ... he wanted you to do it while you had your young child with your?! But wouldn't risk himself?

What an arse.

Lolwhat · 05/04/2020 19:12

Is he 4?

Hannah021 · 05/04/2020 20:09

@Lolwhat hahaha good question.

Makeitgoaway · 05/04/2020 20:36

I went into our corner shop while out for our walk today. I did need some essentials but thought I'd treat us to ice creams whilst there. The iceream freezer was gone Sad

Waveysnail · 05/04/2020 20:43

My dh is boiling my p with this. Huge lecture from him that he wont drop my bike off to halfords to be serviced as it's a non essential journey yet for him to nip into corner shops daily to buy his lunch or some fags

Knobblybobbly · 06/04/2020 08:06

@Lolwhat multiply that by 10 and you’re there!!

To the PP asking if I was sunbathing in the park when I typed that, no, I didn’t say that, I was quoting my husband. I can’t even sunbathe, I’m ginger!

To the PP who asked about it why I said an hour. I dunno. That’s just roughly how long it took for us to walk around our village with my daughter who stops to pick up every snail, worm, woodlouse etc she passes.

There are enough people on this thread who think it’d do no harm to just buy an ice cream to show why we are doomed. Until everyone fully understands that each unnecessary contact with another person increases the risk of spread, the virus will continue spreading. But for some that would be ok because at least they got their ice cream. Hmm

Darbs76 · 06/04/2020 08:22

Drives me insane all these people who think it’s ok to go out for non essential stuff. So many idiots going shopping daily as they hate being stuck indoors. Don’t we all?!

BackseatCookers · 06/04/2020 08:32

If your going out and walking past said shop why wouldn't you?

Just off to bang my head against a brick wall. Fuck me, are people actually stupid or just being disingenuous and selfish? Or a combination?

Essential shopping only.

Add a magnum to your basked when in co-op for an essential food shop? Sure, in fact take two.

Go to the shop and risk the health of the people working there, your own health and that of those who live with you? Dick move. Don't be a dick.

You're obviously right OP and my god he'd be getting right on my tits so I think you're a saint for not snapping! Thanks

CalmerViolet · 06/04/2020 08:49

We clearly need to build herd intelligence.

FrenchBoule · 06/04/2020 09:06

@CalmerViolet agree. This thread is a perfect example of why this virus spreads so fast.

@BackseatCookers I despair as well.

Outtedagain · 06/04/2020 09:25

He can Get his own ice cream. Silly bugger.
Anyway he isn’t just asking for an ice cream he’s asking you to change your plans and take unnecessary risks.

Notwiththeseknees · 06/04/2020 09:34

20 particles of this virus is what it takes to infect you. A cough from an infected person sprays millions.

Eighty percent of infections take place in the home. Therefore one visitor to your home will/may/can infect the others.

Your entire family has to embrace social distancing and/or social isolating. Tell him to be better prepared and order ice cream for next weeks big shop.

Scarlettpixie · 06/04/2020 09:45

I can’t believe some of the stupid comments on here. Going on the shop is not essential and increased possible exposure to the virus for shop staff.

I have a friend in a supermarket who is asking people not to call in for a daily paper or a can of pop or ice cream on their daily walk. These people massively increase footfall and therefore risk!

purplebunny2012 · 06/04/2020 18:11

I so regret not buying a giant Easter egg from ALDI when I had the chance, and I could so easily drive over to buy one.
But my husband does the shopping once a week and isn't going to ALDI, so I'm out of luck on that one.
Hope they bring them out again next year

FelicisNox · 06/04/2020 18:43

So HE won't go but he expects YOU to?? (Get the point here @Richwitch)

Tell him to fck all the way off and grow the fck up.

Jesus wept!
