Neighbor has visitors and a Bbq on the go

She bloody works for the NHS as well!
What the hell is wrong with some people?!?

The visitors are her sister, sisters DH and nephew. They seemed to be doing things in her garden, now she's lit up a Bbq.

I know there are morons still doing this but I would have thought an NHS worker would know better.

She seems visibly miffed that DS is in the garden splashing about in his water toy making a fair bit of noise. Keeps glaring at him.

I don't know whether to say something or just silently seethe. Am I being a total arse being so angry? I appreciate all of the hard work NHS workers do and stress they must be going through right now but surely they aren't above the rules?

You did the right thing reporting her because of her visitors.

BBQ's seem to be a bone of contention at the moment due to the worry that the fumes may exacerbate respiratory distress to people already infected with the virus. Our local council and fire brigade have issued and urgent appeal to residents not to light bonfires or BBQ's but of course this is a request and not a demand at the moment.

TheWordmeister · 05/04/2020 14:20

You did the right thing.

Devlesko · 05/04/2020 14:22

I'd report, but tell her I was going to. give them chance to disperse first.

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/04/2020 14:23

My policeman neighbour just had his elderly FIL round who lives in the same village. Brazen as you like. One rule for us ....

justasking111 · 05/04/2020 14:27

My policeman friend would be the first to say there are idiots on the force, a minority but annoying. Report him would be my advice.

krustykittens · 05/04/2020 14:30

I think you should tell her employers as well. I don't know what she does for the NHS but perhaps if she was confronted by angry A&E staff it might get through to her. She could be infecting her colleagues.

Whattheduck · 05/04/2020 14:34

So are mine they’ve had one the past 2 Sundays too
Dh has just spoke to him over the fence about it and all the chap said was “well we are outside so it’s ok” my Dh said “no it’s not ok my wife risks her own health everyday she goes to work (I work at a gp’s surgery) and people think it’s ok to be above the rules you should be ashamed”
They are still bbqing
They are a household of 2 adults over 70 plus another 2 adults and 2 children

MintyMabel · 05/04/2020 14:35

flaunt the rules.

FFS. Another one! Flout the rules. Not flaunt. Flout. I keep seeing this. They are two completely different words with almost an opposite meaning, why do people seem to think they are interchangeable.

Whattheduck · 05/04/2020 14:40

Sorry I meant to add they have people round it’s not just the household that are having a bbq

Thighmageddon · 05/04/2020 14:41

@MintyMable

My autocorrect keeps changing it to flaunting every time I put flouting in.

Shopkinsdoll · 05/04/2020 14:42

Don’t feel bad, I would report too

SchadenfreudePersonified · 05/04/2020 14:42

Get him a drum or trumpet! Or one of those pump action rifles water pistols. Grin

She's endangering other people - and so are the idiots who have accepted her invitation.

tara66 · 05/04/2020 14:43

I was invited out for a garden lunch today by 2 really intelligent reasonable people who even said they would collect and bring me back home. What could be the harm in that they said? I was shocked. I reminded them they were still working 2 weeks ago and the virus incubates sometimes for 14 days! So it was a ''No thank you''.

LilacTree1 · 05/04/2020 14:44

It’s a relief to me that an nhs worker is doing this.

Dizzygirl00 · 05/04/2020 14:44

Thankyou Ribenamonsoon 👍 hopefully my dickhead neighbours won’t do it again so I won’t need this info 😩

RarePackOfLooRoll · 05/04/2020 14:47

Does your son have a recorder because right now would be an excellent time to get him going on that ........in the garden of course.

lmcneil003 · 05/04/2020 14:48

they shouldnt be doing this, but shes a nurse and under enormous stain.
Dont be busybody. Leave her be.

PristineCondition · 05/04/2020 14:52

My sisters a nurse on a corvid ward for most of last week and under enormous strain too...
she's not a dickhead and doesn't have people over because the rules are for everyone

tentative3 · 05/04/2020 14:54

they shouldnt be doing this, but shes a nurse and under enormous stain.

No. Fuck this. I'm a key worker (not even NHS) and sick of having to go out to work while other people stay in and moan about how they can't do X/Y/Z or make excuses for those ignoring the rules.

Thighmageddon · 05/04/2020 14:54

Worst piece of advise ever...

What if the nurse is carrying the virus and infects the visitors? Oh yes, silly me, they'll spread the disease ever further.

Please don't be a twat and listen to people saying this.

Thighmageddon · 05/04/2020 14:55

Ffs advice not advise.

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 05/04/2020 14:56

@imcneil003 that’s the attitude that’s going to get us all in lockdown for months on end ffs

Whattheduck · 05/04/2020 14:56

@Imcneil003
If she’s a nurse then she should know better
We are all under enormous strain I go into work (NHS) every day not knowing who or what I’m going to be dealing with and I’d love nothing more than to see my family or friends but I’m not above the rules as some people seem to think they are

lmcneil003 · 05/04/2020 14:59

yes, she should know better. However, until you've walked a mile in her shoes do not judge.
If you don't want to break the rules, then don't. Look at your own conduct, not everyone elses.

3rdTrimester · 05/04/2020 15:00

@Imcneil003 that's a shite attitude!
