So now we are allowed to visit second homes.......

Is this a case of do what I say, not what I do......
“The Chief Medical Officer in Scotland, Catherine Calderwood, 51, was snapped strolling across a golf course with her husband and kids after flouting lockdown advice by heading to her coastal property this weekend.”

The response from the Scottish Government......
”An SNP Government spokesman replied: “Since this start of this epidemic, the CMO has been working seven days a week preparing Scotland’s response.
“She took the opportunity this weekend to check on a family home in Fife as she knows she will not be back again until the crisis is over.
“She stayed overnight before returning to Edinburgh. In line with guidance she stayed within her own household group and observed social distancing with anyone she was in passing in the village.”

I am sure everyone else who has a second home would like to use it, or check on it, as well! Am I being unfair in thinking this is double standards and an absolute disgrace that this has been defended by a Government spokesman.

The SNPs statement was a bloody disgrace.

'Shes been working lots' Shes not going to get back up there til this is over. And apparently she social distanced from other residents when she was out - so she was out & about when she was there???

They should have totally condemned her behaviour. Excusing it was totally out of order though why I'm surprised I dont know

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/04/2020 21:14

So her children could have gone to her ex's and his either older or at their mothers. I suppose maybe one of hers could be 18 and therefore ineligible to travel to their dads and they maybe wanted a shag without a teenager in the flat.

But then that's all speculation I suppose. Regardless, they are both health professionals so on that alone should resign.

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 21:20

And following the weekend with husband, this weekend was with husband, her/his kids and dog.

Kinlocrhum · 05/04/2020 21:31

One big god damn jolly. No doubt planning to spend Easter Weekend there too.

AprilFloundering · 05/04/2020 22:07

Appears it was her 2nd trip to the house, too!

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 22:08

She has resigned - what a fanny on all this has been - should have gone before the car crash press conference this afternoon.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/04/2020 22:13

No doubt be back in some 6 figure salary position soon. see folks saying her husband is also a health professional (who also went against guidelines) anyone know what he does?

ChicCroissant · 05/04/2020 22:18

She could have done that earlier, and not highlighted her own poor judgement - I don't think Nicola Sturgeon has come out of it well either, her judgement in defending Calderwood's actions doesn't show her in the best light. How could either of them have possibly thought they could talk their way out of the person given the job of telling people to stay at home going away at the weekends? What a mess.

Mascotte · 05/04/2020 22:29

It makes you wonder what went through her mind. How could she have thought this was a good thing to do?

Makeitgoaway · 05/04/2020 22:32

Where does this leave Nicola Sturgeon when only a few hours ago she was telling the world she couldn't manage without the Dr?

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 22:34

@Mascotte either she a.)couldn't give a damn about the rules/thinks don't apply to her due to her position and "hard work" or b.) she thinks the rules are incorrect/wrong.

Either option makes her position impossible.

Mascotte · 05/04/2020 22:40

I know... but I really want to do things now that I can’t see the harm in, but the thought if public opprobrium stops me..!

Mascotte · 05/04/2020 22:41

And I’m just a punter and haven’t made a big annoying tv ad campaign lecturing people

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 22:43

The whole thing has been a car crash. Surprising as Sturgeon is normally a pretty savvy media operator

boli · 05/04/2020 22:46

Back to her job as a gynaecologist

lyralalala · 05/04/2020 22:47

Nicola Sturgeon must be livid right now. She went out on a limb to keep her in position and resigning has just thrown her under the bus.

What a farce.

Aesopfable · 05/04/2020 22:51

Back to her job as a gynaecologist

Surely at this moment it would be much better to have an epidemiologist or public health consultant as CMO rather than someone with no appropriate specialist knowledge? Quite shocked she is a gynaecologist!

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 05/04/2020 22:59

She’s been Chief Medical Officer for Scotland since 2015. It is not a new appointment that they made up for this crisis. Chris Witty is an epidemiologist but that is sheer luck not judgement. He has been in post only 6 months but before anyone had heard of Covid 19.

Catherine Calderwood, by all accounts, has had a stellar career and is an excellent caring doctor. And she has destroyed over 30 years of work through a couple of really stupid, selfish, arrogant actions.

LaurieMarlow · 05/04/2020 22:59

Why would you be shocked? In normal times a gynaecologist would be much more appropriate than an epidemiologist. We don’t face pandemics very often.

Back to her job as a gynaecologist
.....
She's not looking up my minge if I go to Scotland in the future.

Bella2020 · 05/04/2020 23:16

Dr Calderwood and her family visited their holiday home 2 weekends in a row after the guidance was issued. The family were all photographed walking along the beach, so it wasn't simply a quick visit to check the place over. Why would the whole family be needed to do that? Her face has been on every ad break since the lockdown started. How arrogant and entitled must she be to think no-one would realise.

Her apologies are worthless. She's only sad she got caught. I knew Nicola Sturgeon wouldn't sack her either. They both need to go.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/04/2020 23:22

She's only sad she got caught.

Indeed. Both weekends she stayed overnight - it's only a bit more than an hour away - especially in the current traffic. People commute further on a daily basis. If it truly was a reasonable and necessary visit then it would take one of them to nip over for the afternoon.

Bella2020 · 05/04/2020 23:25

Her husband is a former high ranking military officer who is now the director of a health related charity. An MBE, too.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/04/2020 23:27

In fairness, although he hasn't been on tv every 5 minutes telling us to stay home, he is equally in the wrong and in an arena where health is part of his remit so he should go to.

AnyFucker · 05/04/2020 23:28

I would have no problem with her "looking up my minge"

But to respect her as a professional figurehead advising on how best to minimise the spread of a pandemic...nope.
