Is this a case of do what I say, not what I do......
“The Chief Medical Officer in Scotland, Catherine Calderwood, 51, was snapped strolling across a golf course with her husband and kids after flouting lockdown advice by heading to her coastal property this weekend.”

The response from the Scottish Government......
”An SNP Government spokesman replied: “Since this start of this epidemic, the CMO has been working seven days a week preparing Scotland’s response.
“She took the opportunity this weekend to check on a family home in Fife as she knows she will not be back again until the crisis is over.
“She stayed overnight before returning to Edinburgh. In line with guidance she stayed within her own household group and observed social distancing with anyone she was in passing in the village.”

I am sure everyone else who has a second home would like to use it, or check on it, as well! Am I being unfair in thinking this is double standards and an absolute disgrace that this has been defended by a Government spokesman.

I know the CMO has gone, I was referring to Sturgeon.

Kinlocrhum · 06/04/2020 08:45

Here's the smug pair. He has now issued an apology. I think it's just not enough.

So now we are allowed to visit second homes.......
3rdTrimester · 06/04/2020 09:20

Hardly smug! She took an absolute hammering at the press conference yesterday and also has done over social media (and rightly so). However, she has been reprimanded, held her hands up and made a public apology and has since resigned from her position. I agree, all of this needed to happen but why continue to flog a dead horse? She has been humiliated enough, continuing to pour over it isn't going to change anything (other than to condemn her further).

She fucked up, she's paid the price, end of.

Kinlocrhum · 06/04/2020 09:48

Absolute hammering? No, it was all about her. IMO.

googlepoodle · 06/04/2020 09:53

It’s not ‘end of’. This has huge knock on effects to whether we should all obey the restrictions. If she, with probably the most knowledge of most people about what the evidence is, thinks it is ok to break the rules then why can’t we all.

Flavabobble · 06/04/2020 10:01

Hardly smug! She took an absolute hammering at the press conference yesterday and also has done over social media (and rightly so).
And despite the hammering she got, she still tried to cling on.

BelleharePenguin09 · 06/04/2020 10:06

Her apology was all about her. Fgs she even said she had talked TO the police when, of course, they had talked to her, having approached her and issued HER with a caution.

BelleharePenguin09 · 06/04/2020 10:09

She undermined the work governments are doing to control the virus. Idiot.

Kordelia · 06/04/2020 10:28

I'm used to politicians doing the opposite of what they preach but had expected better of her.
Can hardly believe the stupidity and/or arrogance.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 06/04/2020 10:32

'However, she has been reprimanded, held her hands up and made a public apology and has since resigned from her position.'

Then Scottish cmo was caught, she had to hold her hands up! Yes she apologised for a 'mistake' but without explaining why she did it, is she arrogant or just stupid.

She had made herself and Sturgeon look ridiculous. The Scottish government should have sacked her immediately to retain any credibility.

Lordfrontpaw · 06/04/2020 10:42

She would most likely have gone there over Easter too!

googlepoodle · 06/04/2020 10:42

I might go out for three walks today - morning, lunchtime and evening. It won’t matter as if I meet anyone I will be 2m away, no different to a CMO walking on the golf course with family and dog. She has let us know by her actions that there is very little risk. Let’s all crack on with doing what we are comfortable with.
I’m not serious but you get the drift.

DidoLamenting · 06/04/2020 11:12

Your point is well made googlepoodle

I think her actions have muddied the water

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/04/2020 11:32

Not sure how it needed to be a long conversation, "you're fired" doesn't take long. Even "resign or be fired, pick one" is still fairly short. What the fuck could turn that into a long conversation?

venusandmars · 06/04/2020 15:13

I don't think the FM could 'sack' the CMO. Politicians don't employ civil servants. Contractually it would have to be done between the civil service and the employee, and I imagine with much input from HR and lawyers so CMO couldn't walk away with a big payout if correct procedure was not followed.

Bathroom12345 · 06/04/2020 19:16

And she will go back to a less public senior position, final salary pension etc etc. She has been sacked from THIS position but still, has another role to fall back on

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/04/2020 19:35

you are probably right venus but I guess that Holyrood is involved in who gets appointed.

And yes, she will still be raking in the dosh and spilling arrogance everywhere. i still think she thinks she's not done anything wrong, she is only sorry she got caught.

Psychicgrasshopper · 07/04/2020 21:52

@PineappleDanish

So Scotland are naming a hospital after someone local and giving press conferences on how the virus is affecting a country with a devolved health system. So fucking what? What's your problem?

Psychicgrasshopper · 07/04/2020 21:56

Israel’s Health Minister Yaakov Lizman, head of Agudat Yisrael party,
who weeks ago declared that coronavirus is a "divine punishment for homosexuality", has been infected. His wife too. This forces PM Netanyahu to have to isolate himself for another 15 days.

LMAO the bigot doth protest too much methinks

Louly28 · 23/06/2020 14:04

We were sent an email, asking neighbours to photograph our cars and times by Marlborough Parish Council Devon, report us to the police , if we used our second home ( we weren't going to) and threatened us with a £3,000 fine. Apparently it was police led , as they wanted to up their numbers to usual summer capacity.
