To ask if you earn a lot LESS than 50k per year?

On the back of another thread which was asking about £50k + earners (and me being naturally nosy!) I just wonder if there are many on here earning a lot less and wonder what you do for a living?
I’ve been on Mumsnet for years and there does seem to be many very high earners on here with some very interesting careers.
I’m not one of them unfortunately. Dh earns around £35k pa (45 hrs pw) and due to some health issues I only work very part time. We are both in everyday kind of jobs not careers but we are very happy nonetheless.
Anyone else earning an ‘average’ wage in ‘average’ jobs?

This time last year I was working for a supermarket as an assistant manager about 22K a year. Now I am a student with 0 income.

Dh, however, earns x4 that and so does most of his friends (male and female) so I do not think 50K is people lying. Perhaps more about where you live and who you are surrounded by?

iknowhatyamean · 04/04/2020 15:36

So that's 16800 annual forgot to add

Jenasaurus · 04/04/2020 15:38

Band 3 in the Nhs £20,000 a year. Working Monday to Friday.

Womenwotlunch · 04/04/2020 15:38

My dh is an accountant and you would be surprised by the number of people earning 50k .There are loads. This includes agency nurses, locum doctors, social workers, contractors, IT consultants

alloutoffucks · 04/04/2020 15:39

OP if your DP is on 35k he is earning a decent wage.

AprilFloundering · 04/04/2020 15:40

Teaching Assistant, 32 hours per year, roughly £14k per year. Pay is crap, but it matches my children's schedules, which suits our family, and I don't get taxed on most of it...

SarahAndQuack · 04/04/2020 15:40

@squidgebum - I have same quals as you plus a PhD, and when I had five years' teaching experience at university level I was earning just shy of 28k. So, similar, but slightly less. I don't get why that means 'career' deserves inverted commas?

panicstationsready · 04/04/2020 15:41

Just under 20K - I'm a civil servant, husband is a sort-of civil servant and is a grade above me so about 25K. We are very very fortunate that we are both still working (at home) and have paid off our mortgage. In our Gov Dept very few admin staff are on more than 30K.

sweetkitty · 04/04/2020 15:41

Part-time teacher 24K pa at present.

After 5 years experience an unprompted teacher in Scotland will be paid just over 40K so I’m surprised teachers in London saying they get paid a lot less.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 04/04/2020 15:41

Admin for a food distribution company, I earn about £18,800. Work full time, 39 hours a week. Often work over and not entitled to overtime as I am in salary.

Rezie · 04/04/2020 15:43

I make £29k and work in procurement.

TravellingSpoon · 04/04/2020 15:43

£14k ish as a support worker for adults in a respite setting. 30 hours a week.

Ragwort · 04/04/2020 15:44

SnaccidentsHappen · 04/04/2020 15:44

givemewaffles · 04/04/2020 15:45

Civil service, have just been promoted so roughly 31k full time, but was on just under 25k before that.

Wiaa · 04/04/2020 15:45

Office manager £22k pa 4 days, dh engineer in a factory around £40k

happypotamus · 04/04/2020 15:46

I am a nurse. I don't earn anywhere near £50K

HalfBrick · 04/04/2020 15:46

Totally depends where in the country you are and what industry you're in. Big employers near me are civil service/local authority/education and they pay £20-30k absolute max. Depressing looking on Indeed!

Senior management/v highly qualified are £30-60k, and the people in those jobs seem to have worked their way up from being teenage apprentices and don't tend to leave them. Ever.

Welshmaenad · 04/04/2020 15:47

I earn approx 22k p.a. but that's based on an 18.5 hour week. I'm an adults social worker. The last few weeks have been more stressful than anything I have known, but I still love my job and the families I work with.

namechangemania · 04/04/2020 15:48

Civil service, full time just under £27k

PeepeeDarling · 04/04/2020 15:48

Public health - community worker if I worked full time it would be 26k I only work p/t. Before I had the kids used to work in public health as analyst would in mid -30’s if I’d have carried on and not been a sahm I’d probably be at least a band higher now so mid 40’s but I love what I do now and was so very lucky to be able to be a sahm.
Dh is on 50+ he’s a tradesman.

Hoohum · 04/04/2020 15:48

I am nurse, earn 24k a year full time 😩

Devlesko · 04/04/2020 15:48

yes, our family income is less than 26k, since the virus it will be more like 13k, we aren't entitled to anything as still earning something, it stinks, but that's life. We do get a small amount of tc due to low income.
We are very lucky as a frugal family anyway, so even though we have newt we've nothing to lose.
I'm sorry for those who earn high wages and will lose their jobs as they are the ones likely to have a lot of debt and high mortgages.

Manchestermanchester · 04/04/2020 15:49

£24k over two part part time jobs. I’ve got two degrees
