To ask if you earn a lot LESS than 50k per year?

On the back of another thread which was asking about £50k + earners (and me being naturally nosy!) I just wonder if there are many on here earning a lot less and wonder what you do for a living?
I’ve been on Mumsnet for years and there does seem to be many very high earners on here with some very interesting careers.
I’m not one of them unfortunately. Dh earns around £35k pa (45 hrs pw) and due to some health issues I only work very part time. We are both in everyday kind of jobs not careers but we are very happy nonetheless.
Anyone else earning an ‘average’ wage in ‘average’ jobs?

So approximately 6.5 million people in the U.K. earn £50 or more?
No. 10% of the working population, not the total population. About half of that.

37.5 hours a week on minimum wage is 17k per year before tax and ni if you're over 25.
There is no basic income as far as I'm aware, if you can claim job seekers/incone support element of universal credit it's was recently just over 70 a week, they have these weird calculations now and i don't think there's a standard as they base it on all kinds of variables like housing etc.
Where I live (v cheap rent) with no additional income as a 1 adult 2 child household my universal credit was just under 1000 per month, calculations when my partner moved in said we needed 1285 per month to live so before my student finance arrived they topped us up a 250 on top of his salary.

mcneil003 And 31 million don,'t earn over 50 K, 6.2 million people earn below living wage, with the majority earning average £30,000 or below.

I'm an HCA in a hospital, I'm part time due to to unstable epilepsy & a serious mental illness so I bring home approx £950 - £1k a month. Plus I get £244 PIP disability benefit.
I remain in work (although pt) because:
It's good for my self respect & mental health,
Also getting PIP was difficult enough, getting ESA would be a whole other battle.
I also enjoy my job even though I can't work full time.
I'm lucky I bought my home before I became ill when I had a good well paid full time career & a good deposit so my mortgage is now less than £400 a month.
Otherwise I'd be in a bed sit or social housing if I was lucky.
It's just me & the cat, no DC to pay for.

Sure hester, nobody (non-deranged) is saying 50k isn't well over the average income. Clearly it is. The discussion about the numbers earning it is in the context of someone claiming the people claiming to earn in that bracket must be bullshitting. Which is daft, when millions of people earn it, this website skews privileged and there were only a few dozen posters on the 50k plus salary thread. Frankly it would be odd if there weren't enough 50k plus earners to sustain a thread about it on a site like this.
