To ask if you earn a lot LESS than 50k per year?

On the back of another thread which was asking about £50k + earners (and me being naturally nosy!) I just wonder if there are many on here earning a lot less and wonder what you do for a living?
I’ve been on Mumsnet for years and there does seem to be many very high earners on here with some very interesting careers.
I’m not one of them unfortunately. Dh earns around £35k pa (45 hrs pw) and due to some health issues I only work very part time. We are both in everyday kind of jobs not careers but we are very happy nonetheless.
Anyone else earning an ‘average’ wage in ‘average’ jobs?

Accounts assistant earning £16k pro rata.

OH warns £36k so we’re just over £50k between us.

AnnaC2020 · 04/04/2020 14:15

I’m a care assistant working 36hpw - £16000pa. I’m also studying full time while working as I want to go into Social Work

AnnaC2020 · 04/04/2020 14:16

@Dipsandcrisps oh hi! I’ve applied to start social work in September at Uni. Any advice? :)

OddBoots · 04/04/2020 14:17

Admin assistant, just under £17k full time.

VegetableMunge · 04/04/2020 14:18

But 50k is the barometer being used here, not 100k. Millions of people earn or have earned that level of income. In a site with so many members, and skewing more privileged than average, why on earth wouldn't there be lots of posters genuinely earning 50k plus

buzz91 · 04/04/2020 14:20

Finance admin part time £13k but just been promoted so should be going up a bit

Slith · 04/04/2020 14:21

Assistant manager at a petrol station.

£8.50 an hour but they can only give me 4 days a week, so around £11k.
Luckily that covers all of my rent and bills and leaves me with plenty to spend.

Theonewiththecandles · 04/04/2020 14:21

Just had a pay rise to up to 18.2k.. admin job that is very finance/procurement based. Was previously on over 19k in a call centre, but the switch was well worth it. DP earns about the same working in a pub, although of course furloughed at the moment, I am classed as a key worker, working from home

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/04/2020 14:23

I earn around £7,000 a year as a dinner lady.Dh earns a good amount though fortunately.

TheGinGenie · 04/04/2020 14:23

I earn just over £23k, I'm in HR for a charity

Meggie2008 · 04/04/2020 14:24

Accounts assistant. 20k

WineInTheSun · 04/04/2020 14:24

I’m a staff nurse in a&e, salary is £24K (I think) but with overtime/back shifts it’s around £28K. I usually bring home around £1800 a month doing lots of weekends and nights

WhyNotMe40 · 04/04/2020 14:24

Science teacher. I earn a LOT less than £50k

Sparklingplasters · 04/04/2020 14:25

I don’t think that people are necessarily lying about being on over £50k. Most people I know are

Hermanfromguesswho · 04/04/2020 14:27

Teaching assistant. I work 30 hours a week and earn £12,000 a year

Chocolateandamaretto · 04/04/2020 14:28

School library assistant, earn £14000 30hr pw term time only. Full time would be £20k.

It’s a nice job and very practical with kids. My husband is a high earner though - not sure I could do it if he wasn’t.

FlamingIris · 04/04/2020 14:28

£18.5k full time admin

mogtheexcellent · 04/04/2020 14:29

Archaeologist. It's a professional occupation and I have a Phd and nearly 20 years experience. £24K. But I'm part time so only earn 18k.

DH on similar in non professional and, importantly stress free job. We dont earn £50k between us. We are still better off than most.

Justincasecakehappens · 04/04/2020 14:29

If you believe the amount of people on here that claim to earn over 100k, you're very naive. I doubt half are telling the truth.

I work in recruitment. I know how much companies I recruit for are paying. A salary of 50k+ really is not that unusual.

I don't know many people who earn LESS than 50k. So what?

Posters might lie either way, it doesn't mean a 50k salary is anything extraordinary.

Thehop · 04/04/2020 14:30

I’m 40, I’m in early years. I’m very experienced and have a degree and senior responsibilities , but still minimum wage.

Subeccoo · 04/04/2020 14:30

Safeguarding lead in a school, 28k pro rata works out about 24, I work 42 weeks a year.
Dh earns about 25k self employed. We have a low mortgage 300 quid a month, and no childcare costs plus two adult dc that pay keep at home too so we feel quite well off compared to our friends with little ones.

Justincasecakehappens · 04/04/2020 14:31

It would probably also help to know the salary and the HOURS worked.
People seem to also mix FT and PT...

originalusernamefail · 04/04/2020 14:31

Senior nurse - 15 years experience £32k
DH - senior HCSW 13 years experience £14k
So pre - tax we are on about £46k together. Oop north so can afford to do as we like month to month but I would prefer to be able to save more.

NotGenerationAlpha · 04/04/2020 14:32

@SudokuQueen whatever makes your feel better about the salary band

This is what software developer jobs are advertised at www.itjobswatch.co.uk/

No one is lying.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 04/04/2020 14:32

Dh earns £55k basic but gets overtime and bonus.

I earn minimum wage part time in a shop, usually around £800pm. I love my job though and I know I’m very fortunate.
