Husband has CV I think

Husband is an essential worker, so has been working throughout this, he felt unwell yesterday and overnight has got worse.

Hot
No sense of taste
Aching
Really bad pain below his shoulder blades (which is odd!)
Coughing (not continuous but it's there)
When he was getting out of bed for the toilet last night, lots of groans as it was painful moving.

Clearly called in sick today.

My AIBU is, I am scared and whilst he absolutely does not need medical intervention now, when do I know it's getting worse and he does? I am assuming it will be very obvious?

I'm next to him now and I am probably being over sensitive but his breathing seems louder than usual.

Also, I was due to shop, today, so little food in the house, Iceland can deliver tomorrow to elderly, vulnerable and people self isolating, am I justified to use this, or I have a brother who could go shopping for me possibly.

I for some reason never thought it would be us, but I'm sure lots of people feel that way.

I think you should call 111. Please.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 06/04/2020 21:32

Have you checked the 111 online thing recently?

It might be worth doing if you haven't.

My son started with symptoms on 24th April, today if his first day of feeling better. He’s 19 and a 6ft, fit healthy guy, but this completely knocked him off his feet. He had a temp of 102, a cough like no other cough I’ve heard him have before, no appetite at all, light headed, felt sick, no energy at all. He couldn’t even stand in the shower for long. He lost a stone in a week, and said he’d never felt so ill. I just made sure he drank plenty, kept up taking regular paracetamol, and slept when he could. He spent 10 days in his bedroom, just coming out to shower and toilet, which I cleaned thoroughly every time. I think that’s all you can do, and just wait for it to pass, thanking his he didn’t need hospital treatment.

"all the groups are for vulnerable, it was made clear to us"

The Covid mutual aid groups on FB are not just for the vulnerable, at least mine isn't. I went shopping for someone who was self-isolating because she had a cough. It's silly not to help people who have to self-isolate.

I think the not knowing sounds the hardest part! OP I hope he picks up tomorrow. Maybe its advisable for the first day of feeling better to still not move, perhaps that rest is still very much needed to keep recovery going.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 06/04/2020 21:51

Have you tried clapping his back? Look up on YouTube it's the same as what you do for cystic fibrosis. Use the phone app as a rough guide for oxygen sats, if it drops much below 80 then I think you need to be calling 111 or if he is visibly struggling, 999. Let the fever burn unless its endangering him in itself. Fever is good, it's an immune response, making his body a very inhospitable environment for the virus.

hesgotit · 06/04/2020 21:55

Honestly he is not struggling to breath, I'm worrying about what might happen, which I need to control, if that makes sense.

I'm feeling the same OP my hubby is on day 12 I think and still poorly. Got some antibiotics from GP today and think they're making a difference already

hesgotit · 06/04/2020 22:06

@Looneytune253 what made you contact the GP? What was the "final straw"?

OP posts:
Onceateacher · 06/04/2020 22:14

Do antibiotics help? Confused

Tonyaster · 06/04/2020 22:20

Onceateacher not with viral infections no. Perhaps the dh had developed a bacterial infection as a side effect?

hesgotit · 07/04/2020 07:03

I am glad another day is over, it means a day closer to recovery. His breathing is still fine, no one else in the house has come down with it.

🤞 This continues.

@Thislittlepiggywentto he certainly won't be getting out of bed day 1,2 or 3! I've never seen him this unwell and we will be married 33 years this month. He's not a good patient but I am absolutely insisting he does everything by the book on this.

sparkypigeon · 07/04/2020 09:45

Sending him wishes for a speedy recovery

Thank you @sparkypigeon

It was just after advice when we called 111 on day 10 they recommended to get in touch with a gp if he was still suffering in a cpl of days. He's still had a temp. Yes the gp said they'd been seeing some results with antibiotics for some who've been poorly a while. No idea about the science behind it but she's the doctor so I'm guessing there's a reason. Both the 111 doc and then the GP knew this. I'm hoping he's showing some improvement already but it's usually evening that's the worst.

Don't think there was a final straw as such just checking in with 111 when we were supposed to (after day 10) and he was getting higher temps and following their advice.

goldfinchfan · 07/04/2020 13:09

Can you say what kind of antibiotics are helping? I m in a similar state and waiting for my GP to call back.

Looneytune253 · 07/04/2020 13:49

He just has amoxicillin

LizzieSiddal · 07/04/2020 23:21

I heard a Dr today say that Antibiotics are being given to ensure there is no hidden bacterial infection on top of the virus.

hesgotit · 08/04/2020 09:41

Well he is much better this morning, he wants to come out of his room but he can't as he has to isolate.

He wants to clean the room, change bedding etc that's how much better he feels.

I do know that this can change as another PP said, but hopefully he's on the mend.

PanchoBarnes · 08/04/2020 10:18

So glad he's feeling better! @hesgotit
But don't let him do too much, too soon.

I know what you mean about the wanting to fast-forward two weeks.
The worrying is no fun.
You're doing a great job of doing everything properly.
Well done, you!
I hope he continues to feel better, with no back tracking.
🙏

HyperactivePineapple · 08/04/2020 10:18

That's great to hear! Here's hoping he keeps on getting better.

Tonyaster · 08/04/2020 10:20

Glad to hear he is feeling better. Not sure what day he is on but I and many others felt better by about day 7 or 8. I then went out for a walk. Next day symptoms were much worse. So if that might apply to him then make him continue to rest.

lightyearsahead · 08/04/2020 10:29

For the Oxygen test - o to the Samsung Health App
Scroll down to the Stress test
Press Measure, put finger on the back, the red light will come on and measurements will start.

I have been doing the breathing exercises and my measurement has gone from 93/93% to 96/97%

It dos vary through out the day to be honest.
