Husband has CV I think

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 09:09

Husband is an essential worker, so has been working throughout this, he felt unwell yesterday and overnight has got worse.

Hot
No sense of taste
Aching
Really bad pain below his shoulder blades (which is odd!)
Coughing (not continuous but it's there)
When he was getting out of bed for the toilet last night, lots of groans as it was painful moving.

Clearly called in sick today.

My AIBU is, I am scared and whilst he absolutely does not need medical intervention now, when do I know it's getting worse and he does? I am assuming it will be very obvious?

I'm next to him now and I am probably being over sensitive but his breathing seems louder than usual.

Also, I was due to shop, today, so little food in the house, Iceland can deliver tomorrow to elderly, vulnerable and people self isolating, am I justified to use this, or I have a brother who could go shopping for me possibly.

I for some reason never thought it would be us, but I'm sure lots of people feel that way.

Thank you @OldLace, I'll keep this updated, hopefully it will help others to know the journey.

If he struggles with his breathing then he should use an electric fan to help push air into his lungs. It’s seriously helped me in the past when suffering with severe breathing problems and being denied basic healthcare by my arse of a GP (inhaler etc).

HarrietTheShy · 04/04/2020 10:14

I've had it/am still recovering. The NHS don't want to know unless the patient can't breath. They are only doing last minute intervention treatment.

I was struggling for words/gasping but because I could talk even a little bit, apparently I was fine. Let's just say it was a very scary few days before it started to return to normal.

Lifeaback · 04/04/2020 10:15

Sorry to hear this OP sending you love. I saw on another thread here a poster mentioned that you can get oxygen saturation monitors to buy online (the little clips they put on your finger at the doctors/hospital) which to me seems a good reassurance as I can imagine it’s terrifying feeling like you can’t breathe. Might be looking into as would help you know when to seek medical help if you’re able to keep an eye on his stats?

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 10:19

I'll look at that @Lifeaback, thank you.

Glad you're recovering @HarrietTheShy but sounds an awful time.

Thank you @starrysimon we do have a fan, your GP sounds awful! Can you move when this is all
over?

The NHS worker should be able to get a swab test for the affected family member.... have they called occupational health?

middleager · 04/04/2020 10:23

OP, I'm on day 4 of 'something' that consists of high temperature, extremely sore throat and glands, continuous cough and slight ache by lungs.

You should not be in the same bed for starters.
I am quarantined in my room with en suite fortunately
Husband brings food/drinks to door, kids not allowed in

I sleep.on my front after learning that the majority of your lung is on your upper back

I do the exercise for clearing lungs

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 10:23

@WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish really? He's called in but not been told anything (he is not a nurse or doctor), so maybe it's more for those?

What a useful thread ! Wishing everyone well ...

BooseysMom · 04/04/2020 10:31

*I had very similar (the shoulder back pain is probably the lungs I recognised it from pleuirsy)

Definitely practice breathing exercises and dont sleep on your back. Rest rest rest for me*

My DH had this too. He thought he'd done his shoulder in at work and on his way to the GP it got suddenly very bad. The pain was horrendous and he was given morphine by the paramedics but the GP was an arse, had no idea what it was and left him for ages. In the end the ambulance was called and the scan at A&E found pleurisy. Don't ever leave it if it's sudden shoulder pain. Hope he's ok x

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 10:38

@BooseysMom he also thought he'd injured his back. Last week he did hurt his lower back when gardening, he did "it's moved to my shoulder blades", clearly it's totally unconnected!

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 11:05

I have just had the shoulder pain again (as did my daughter) loss of taste and smell, tight chest and a cough and I have come out the other side

Sunshineafterrain24 · 04/04/2020 11:13

Wishing you all the very best.
I am on Day 18 of complete isolation but have woken with a horrible sore throat and asthma, generally feeling rubbish. I'm hoping it is something completely different as I literally haven't even been answering the door to anyone.

Jellycatfox · 04/04/2020 11:15

I spent a couple of stress weeks when my baby came down with the fever and cough at 3 months old. Up all night checking if she was breathing properly... for days.
111 told us to self isolate for two weeks the morning when I realised the temperature and cough, so we did straight away and we had no food in the house. We have nobody to do shopping for us so it was difficult but we ended up paying people to do it.
Baby seems ok now. But still coughs and cries.
It has been difficult to get supplies lately because we are not vulnerable even though we have to self isolate. I ended up taking out of date medication as I couldn’t go out.

middleager · 04/04/2020 11:19

This is the video that a poster kindly shared on another thread (she has 'garden' in her username) and it's a gamechanger.

Breathing exercises from a doctor. Sorry to be gross, but it helped shift some of the mucus.

middleager · 04/04/2020 11:21

I also ordered an oximeter thanks to the helpful posters on the 'My lungs' threads.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 04/04/2020 11:22

My 18 year old son is on day 5 of what we thin is Covid, he is still getting hot and feverish at night, his chest has been a bit tight but okay, he sleeps a lot but is eating and drinking.
Is a slight temp still ok after 5 days, he is not burning or delusional as was my cousins dh

middleager · 04/04/2020 11:25

Jelly
Do you have a local FB page that can help with food/scripts?

Prescriptions can be dropped off - hearing you had to take out of date medication is just not acceptable. Sorry to hear that Flowers

confusednortherner · 04/04/2020 11:26

@Sunshineafterrain24 can you take antihistamines and see if that helps? We've been told the pollen is going to go high and that always sets ds off so we've started hayfever meds as well as inhalers.

Ffsnosexallowed · 04/04/2020 11:26

He'll only get tested if a test would get him back to work. Sounds like he's too ill to be in work even if it isn't covid? Only benefit to a negative test would be to allow another household member to return to work.

1Wildheartsease · 04/04/2020 11:31

Sorry to hear he is ill and wish him well very soon.

You need to stay away from each other even if you have already caught the virus...

It might seem like shutting the stable door after the horse has gone
BUT
your dose of the virus will be smaller (and easier to fight) if you have less contact with him.

Jellycatfox · 04/04/2020 11:33

@middleager all the groups are for vulnerable, it was made clear to us. I managed to speak to my GP who sent an electronic prescription to an online pharmacy and it will arrive next week but yes, I will have been taking the expired medication for 3 weeks, 6 months out of date.

Oh well, isolation is over today :-)

diddl · 04/04/2020 11:46

I've just watched the video & sorry to be daft but he says to lie on your front (ok I understand that!) with a pillow in front of you??

I must stop reading these threads-only do anything if you are so breathless can only get out one or two words??

I can feel my chest tightening at the very thought!

middleager · 04/04/2020 11:49

Take care Jelly
diddl I use a pillow

StarintheMorning · 04/04/2020 11:51

Try to decrease your viral load. Do not sleep Or stay in same room. Have as little contact as possible. If you can, use gloves, wear glasses, makeshift face mask when you are with him.

He needs lots of liquids, give him a flask of water, so that he can top up his own glass. If you have a dishwasher then put everything through at 60 degrees. If not wash his separately. Clean door handles, spaces where he has been.

This seems like a huge amount of work, but there was a Doctor on Jeremy Vine show yesterday who spoke about this. It’s worth a listen. We have since made plans for what we will do if any of us get it.

Hope he gets well soon.
