Husband has CV I think

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 09:09

Husband is an essential worker, so has been working throughout this, he felt unwell yesterday and overnight has got worse.

Hot
No sense of taste
Aching
Really bad pain below his shoulder blades (which is odd!)
Coughing (not continuous but it's there)
When he was getting out of bed for the toilet last night, lots of groans as it was painful moving.

Clearly called in sick today.

My AIBU is, I am scared and whilst he absolutely does not need medical intervention now, when do I know it's getting worse and he does? I am assuming it will be very obvious?

I'm next to him now and I am probably being over sensitive but his breathing seems louder than usual.

Also, I was due to shop, today, so little food in the house, Iceland can deliver tomorrow to elderly, vulnerable and people self isolating, am I justified to use this, or I have a brother who could go shopping for me possibly.

I for some reason never thought it would be us, but I'm sure lots of people feel that way.

I was about to say the same as wild hearts- all about reducing viral load.
Get well soon to your household

myfav · 04/04/2020 12:07

As pp said you may not be able to avoid getting the virus from him but if you have limited expose you increase the chance of your symptoms being mild.
If he's able he needs to be cleaning down surfaces that he has touched on his way to and in the bathroom and then you can follow up to make sure. Keep him out of the kitchen completely. If you have a dishwasher his things should go on an intensive 70 degree cycle.
You need to be vigilant in washing your hands before eating.
I know that to some this sounds overkill but I follow these principles whenever anyone in the household has had a virus inc noro and I have managed to not catch it.
Fingers crossed for you that he's able to shake it off relatively easily.

smiften · 04/04/2020 12:08

So many people don't understand the viral load significance, I didn't until recently.

Please read up on it everyone.

Tonyaster · 04/04/2020 12:13

I had a virus which sounds identical including a cough. Second week of Feb. Very unlikely that was covid 19 so I do think there might be very very similar viruses around.

Iamamoleinthegarden · 04/04/2020 12:19

People do have minor symptoms and some no symptoms at all.

Isolate and monitor.

Onceateacher · 04/04/2020 12:21

I didn't understand the pillow bit either (does he just mean put it under your head?)

SeaToSki · 04/04/2020 12:23

Buy a pulse oximeter on Amazon (about 20 pounds)

It will tell you how his lungs are working to get oxygen to the blood, its the critical info that will tell you if he is just feeling crap or actually needs a doctor. There are two figures, his pulse rate and his oxygen saturation. His pulse rate should be 80 or below (assuming he is normally quite healthy). His oxygen saturation should be 96% or more.

If his oxygen drops below 96% start watching him closely
If his oxygen drops below 94% call a doctor for medical advice
If his oxygen drops below 92% go to A and E

Alongside this if his pulse rate goes up more than 20 beats per minute while lying down compared to before then watch him closely or call the doctor

Also see if you can get him a zinc and vitamin d and c supplements/vitamins. Take the full recommended amount of zinc every day and lots of extra D and C

Onceateacher · 04/04/2020 12:35

I can't see the comment that said the video wasn't accurate - so now concerned about following it Confused can anyone clarify?
I have just had a small coughing fit brought in my forcing myself to cough during the breathing exercise!

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 04/04/2020 14:20

It depends on the trust I think. Get him to call occupational health x

BooseysMom · 04/04/2020 17:17

People do have minor symptoms and some no symptoms at all.

It's really strange how people are affected to different degrees. Is it that there are different strains of Corona virus?

Wishing you all wellFlowers

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 18:00

Quick update....... he's not got out of bed all day, he hasn't eaten at all, but is drinking water.

He's topped up on paracetamol, we are communicating via phone and I'm leaving his water and drugs outside his door.

confusednortherner · 04/04/2020 20:11

I had something similar initially thought chest infection but now not sure. When he does feel better make sure he takes it easy. I spent over a week in bed and another week doing very little as even moving about was exhausting. I'm gradually getting there but still feel shattered after a short walk.

Toastie7 · 04/04/2020 21:39

Not sure if anyone has already said this but some phones can measure oxygen saturation eg on Samsung health

Stuckandsadintheupsidedown · 04/04/2020 21:44

It's his breathing that you need to pop in and listen to. Anything that sounds like gasping call 999. If he can't finish a sentence 999

middleager · 04/04/2020 22:03

Thank you to the poster who said that Samsung could measure oxygen in blood levels. I'd just ordered an oxmeter too!

Mine says 92 per cent, and heart rate 91bpm.
The high heart rate is usual for me, but I've never done the oxygen before and worried as a pp said to go to A&E at 92!

I am ill with cv symptoms (day 4) and resting in bed. But I have not experienced any breathing issues yet (bar persistent coughing).

I don't know what to make of it.
My BP is normally high - mainly due to a stressful job, which has been more stressful since lockdown.

I'm also 2 stone overweight (mainly because of stress) and all of this may lead me to evaluate my job - if it puts my health on the line.

Toastie7 · 04/04/2020 22:17

Middleager you are welcome, hope it saves you some money.
OP I was worried too that I wouldn't know when to call for help if my husband gets it, he always seems to get the normal flu.
Hope everyone feels better soon

middleager · 04/04/2020 22:19

It says 84 HR and 88 for oxygen now but my breathing feels fine Confused

tulipsrus · 04/04/2020 22:27

Look up the advice from the doctor in Queens hospital in Romford.
Lie on front

Toastie7 · 04/04/2020 22:33

Hmmm not sure then. My husband's reading just now was 93% and he doesn't feel ill at all, so maybe it isn't that accurate.

Just done the Samsung test, I am well, pulse 74 and oxygen 94%
So I think you have to use it as an indication rather than fact.

Celeriacacaca · 04/04/2020 22:53

Wishing you and yours a speedy recovery and thanks for sharing info and insights.

Northernsoullover · 04/04/2020 23:11

Well blow me! Every day is a school day. I have a Samsung S10 I did not know about this feature. Oxygen is 97 but I couldn't find this feature. I found it in the Stress section by accident.

OldLace · 05/04/2020 08:04

@Toastie7
I have a Samsung A70, would it work on that, please?

OP, how are things at your house this morning?

Schmoana · 05/04/2020 08:22

Try to decrease your viral load. Do not sleep Or stay in same room. Have as little contact as possible. If you can, use gloves, wear glasses, makeshift face mask when you are with him.

He needs lots of liquids, give him a flask of water, so that he can top up his own glass. If you have a dishwasher then put everything through at 60 degrees. If not wash his separately. Clean door handles, spaces where he has been.
