Who are dancing on doorsteps, clapping for everyone and their dog, having one-minute-silences for people they've never heard of, inventing #stupid #hashtags, and unquestioningly surrendering themselves to governmental decrees?

The single good thing about COVID-19 for me is that it might finally break my 10 year MN addiction.

Pelleas · 04/04/2020 09:00

What is this 'Brexit' of which you speak? I vaguely remember it ....

I'm so nostalgic, remembering Brexit fatigue. I would give anything to feel Brexit fatigue again.

Billyeyelash · 04/04/2020 09:07

Goady

Snipey politics can wait. Can we just do what we can to reduce numbers, get a test that works, work towards a vaccine and support each other through this? Ta.

GreekOddess · 04/04/2020 09:08

I'm a remainer and I don't have any neighbours so there is nobody to hear us. We clap on the doorstep because it's important that my children understand that NHS employees are risking their lives to help others and we should be grateful for that.

PianoTuner567 · 04/04/2020 09:10

Thanks for reminding me of Brexit. It makes me remember it as happier times....

OwlinaTree · 04/04/2020 09:15

I just hope people remember the value of our NHS next time we have a general election and vote for a party that will support them.

SueEllenMishke · 04/04/2020 09:15

No. Don't be a dick
You can't blame everything on leave voters

PersonaNonGarter · 04/04/2020 09:17

OP do you see yourself as having any personal responsibility for pleasantness and neighbourliness at the moment?

Or are you here to sow discord?

No. If anything, it’s the opposite. I’m in the biggest remain constituency in the country and my whole street was clapping.

AliciaJohnson · 04/04/2020 09:20

Ok, I'm probably BU in that case.

Roll on the return to normal life.

Stop the othering. It's not helping anyone.

Who cares? This virus certainly doesn't.

TheFuckingDogs · 04/04/2020 09:23

I think it’s probably not that clear cut but also think we’re entering a dangerous narrative currently of not being allowed to criticise government decisions as “this is bigger than politics” and “we all have to just pull together”
I think people blindly praising a government they voted for despite glaring errors will cost more lives than should be lost.
I think many of the militant “Suzie went for a walk twice today types” will have been the same people blindly following our governments advice to keep socialising when the the rest of Europe was going into lockdown.
I think people with a slightly more global/ Europe outlook maybe (just maybe) were more aware of the dangers that were to come.
I am deeply sorry for anyone who has already lost a loved one. We are all people, let’s show the nicer side of humanity

Only if there is link between being a c%# and a Remainer*

Rosiejim · 04/04/2020 09:27

@AliciaJohnson what’s the difference between all of the nobs being sanctimonious about various things during covid crisis and you being a sanctimonious nob about voting Remain? In fact you’re slightly worse because at least the covid crew are relevant

derxa · 04/04/2020 09:29

JassyRadlett · 04/04/2020 09:30

I hate Mumsnet at the moment because I'm so sick of people berating others for doing things that create no Covid risk at all, and for being sanctimonious about it.

You mean behaviours like clapping or dancing on their doorstep or using hashtags? And then the sanctimony of deriding them as ‘sheep-like?’

Bibijayne · 04/04/2020 09:33

I'm a remainer. Was part of the remain campaign. There is no link! Yikes. I've seen people across the political spectrum either come together to help or be dicks. It's almost like people are just people?

Stefoscope · 04/04/2020 09:38

Yes, the leavers were also the ones stockpiling for the Brexit armageddon/apocalypse, so let's blame them for the toilet paper shortage whilst we're at it. #slow clap.

TheFuckingDogs · 04/04/2020 09:38

I’m sorry Derxa if that came across wrong. I do think however that if someone had family in say Italy they may have been more aware?
That isn’t saying that person would automatically be a remainer.
My point stands that it’s important we infinite to hold our government to account.
That said I’m a lefty and am in some ways quite pleased with the governments response. Certainly better than Trump 🙈

jasjas1973 · 04/04/2020 09:40

I find the clapping for the NHS, whilst at the same time the Govt not providing the tests and the PPE for the exact same staff rather distasteful but TBH the most active community workers i know are 'Leavers.........
