Admittedly it’s only on our local WhatsApp group...

Opened it this morning and there’s a message from a ‘founder’ member of the group.

“Me, hubs and the kids were out last night making lots of noise for our NHS heroes. Disappointed to see that some of this group don’t care enough to give up 2 minutes of their time!!! Maybe you forgot..(then a list of names including mine). Will be sending you a reminder next week!!”

I know she’s a twat but I’m fuming. I’m not going to dignify it with a reply because she and her little crew of followers love a public war. I’m just going to ignore her but if she thinks she’s forcing me out next week she’s got another bloody think coming.

Tbh if I wasn’t on lockdown I wouldn’t even give it 2 thoughts but I’m winding myself up about it now!

AIBU to think that clapping is not compulsory and nobody else’s business?

I am wondering if the OP lives in a certain eastern part of London?

WingingItSince1973 · 04/04/2020 13:21

Yep weve had the Clap For The Kids memo sent to all local Facebook groups here too. The typical response is from the likes of 'huns' and 'chicks' you can imagine the same kind as 'me and my hubs'. Maybe I'm a snob but thay alone would make me want to tie my hands together and not participate. Getting stupid now!

WingingItSince1973 · 04/04/2020 13:23

@MarthasGinYard 'who has the Clap this week?' 🤣🤣🤣🤣

ChristmasCarcass · 04/04/2020 14:43

Just message back “FFS what part of Stay At Home don’t you understand???!?!?!!11??!!”

See how she likes being out-holied at doing Lockdown!

Seriously I do think these bloody claps for everybody all the time are just bored people looking for an excuse to see their neighbours.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 04/04/2020 14:44

All of this is starting to remind me of that episode of the Simpsons, where Bart got some walkie talkies, lowered one of them down to the bottom of a deep well and then pretended to be a young boy who was trapped down there.

The whole town rallied around to gossip show sensitive concern and all wring their hands in despair for this poor boy.

Mayor Quimby gained political capital from pledging his full support for 'Timmy' and the efforts to get him out without actually making any practical efforts.

Krusty got Sting and some of his other showbiz pals over and they all recorded a charity single for Timmy.

What started as a nice gesture in adverse circumstances is indeed rapidly turning into another hobby for that sort of nosey-parker tinpot dictator socially concerned person who's never content with just cycling, sewing or stamp collecting like everybody else.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 04/04/2020 15:59

You’re so meta @callo Grin

GabsAlot · 04/04/2020 16:33

theres another thread on here about clapping for kids apprently im horrible because i dont want to clap for every human known to man

whatever

BiBiBirdie · 04/04/2020 16:40

Christ
What part of "stay the fuck at home" don't these virtue signallers get?

They've said today, if we stay home, this could all be done and dusted by May
If we don't, it will be a lot longer, way into summer holiday

I would rather a few weeks of abject boredom sat watching Netflix instead of months of soul destroying isolation and control by the government.

BelleharePenguin09 · 04/04/2020 16:42

Clapping for kids is the biggest lot of tosh. Fgs🤬🤬🤬

Gindrinker43 · 04/04/2020 16:43

Spoken as someone workng on the NHS frontline, shes a complete pain and i'd delete the group.

Cam2020 · 04/04/2020 17:22

Ignore. Don't leave the group, it'll make her feel like she's forced you out and she sounds like the kind of twat who'd get a kick out of that. Maybe mute the conversation though so she can't annoy you with any further BS.

EstuaryBird · 04/04/2020 17:38

@Knowhowufeel2. Yes! We’re next to a cemetery.....Thriller dance anyone Grin Grin

Bloody hell, she thinks we live in North Korea. I didn’t go out either last week or the week before.

ChorleyNot · 04/04/2020 17:45

I think a major problem of those who shame others for non-participation in displays that don't actually DO anything is that they tend to be too thick to ever understand the reasoning behind why others think that they're so awful.

Shell4429 · 04/04/2020 17:51

I would be inclined to tell her that I supported the NHS by not voting Tory. Clapping doesn’t give the front line workers protection.

ToftyAC · 04/04/2020 17:55

She’s a total cunt and I, personally, would call her out on it. But that’s just me....

Stars2theside · 04/04/2020 17:56

@Shell4429

THIS!!!

ChorleyNot · 04/04/2020 18:01

LOVING the idea of clapping for the clappers, but feel the irony would be lost on the clap-fascists.... Grin

Pritchyx · 04/04/2020 18:04

I clapped the first week, but this week I didn’t. I’ve been doing personal safety training with the police (I’m a PCSO) and safe to say I could barely lift my arms Thursday night afterwards.

I’m at work until late next week because I’ve got fuck loads of work to catch up on that I missed on my first week. So I probably won’t go and clap then either.

It was a nice sentiment the first week but now I think it’s going a bit too extreme to clap for the kids, or clap for the fucking binmen.

ratmack · 04/04/2020 18:16

As an illustrious member of the key worker tribe....it's all very nice. It ain't compulsory and if you have something better to do...

Standingstone77 · 04/04/2020 18:26

As an NHS frontline worker, it’s a nice gesture, but what would help us more is to have voted for a government who would have invested significantly in us, not run us into the ground physically and metaphorically, and who had properly planned for this in December/January while there was a chance to, and who provided us with adequate ppe and not require vulnerable elderly retired doctors on the frontline. As it is a bit of a clap (and pots and pans) at 8 when i’m putting my 3yr old to bed, Well, I take it in the spirit it’s meant, and am grateful for the moral support (because to be honest we’re all f”*king terrified) but it makes sod all actual difference and making it a source of local cliquey bullying horrifies me. Tell her to do one.

nopuppiesallowed · 04/04/2020 18:28

Some of us are doing other things to support the NHS. I'm writing personal letters of support to every health worker I know, asking them to take the letters into work to show their colleagues that I am in awe of them and that I'll be praying for them regularly. Normally I wouldn't blow my own trumpet like this. But just want to remind people not to judge others. None of us has any idea what other people are quietly doing. Be kind.

Steamfan · 04/04/2020 18:31

I've come across a FB site - "Great British Campout for the NHS Staff" - the idea is you camp in your garden. In fairness they appear to be fund raising.

Oliversmumsarmy · 04/04/2020 18:40

How could you plan for this in December when it was hushed up till virtually the end of December and WHO was saying there was no problem on January 23rd

erniepigy · 04/04/2020 18:41

I’m not a sheep and I won’t be told what to do.
I won’t share praise posts for our NHS or any other service worker. I appreciate ALL workers that do their job for which they are paid and have chosen to enter into.
What I do, is stay home, don’t panic buy, be extra vigilant with cleanliness and don’t spread fear and panic. I have one old lady I take care of, she is alone, deaf can hardly walk and a heart condition so I sort her prescriptions, shopping and cook and deliver her meals.
Don’t be guilted into anything you don’t want to be part of, clapping outside your house does nothing to help the virus
