I’ve been named and ‘shamed’

Admittedly it’s only on our local WhatsApp group...

Opened it this morning and there’s a message from a ‘founder’ member of the group.

“Me, hubs and the kids were out last night making lots of noise for our NHS heroes. Disappointed to see that some of this group don’t care enough to give up 2 minutes of their time!!! Maybe you forgot..(then a list of names including mine). Will be sending you a reminder next week!!”

I know she’s a twat but I’m fuming. I’m not going to dignify it with a reply because she and her little crew of followers love a public war. I’m just going to ignore her but if she thinks she’s forcing me out next week she’s got another bloody think coming.

Tbh if I wasn’t on lockdown I wouldn’t even give it 2 thoughts but I’m winding myself up about it now!

AIBU to think that clapping is not compulsory and nobody else’s business?

I peered out at 8 yesterday to see how hypocritical my neighbours are. Pretty much all voted Tory but we’re out there clapping away. My neighbours who had a garden party last week were out clapping. I was so angry I was tempted go go out and give them all a piece of my mind but dh stopped me.

Rowgtfc72 · 03/04/2020 16:36

@peterlon1 not sure appreciated is the word I would use🙂
We're a food town, most of us are still working, life is normalish here. Factory fodder are bottom of the rung.
Work? As far as they're concerned apart from the safety measures its business as usual.

73Sunglasslover · 03/04/2020 16:39

I work for the NHS and have mixed views on this. What we actually need is proper long-term funding and respect and I am not convinced that clapping will necessarily lead to that. I am in awe of all front-line staff but that does not mean that clapping has become the one and only way to show our respect for them and neither does it mean that doing this means you will show respect in any other way.

CalamityShame · 03/04/2020 16:40

Christ. It's just like the poppy fascists.
'Y RNT U WEARING A POPPY DO U NOT SUPPORT R TROOPS?!?!!!1? Y DO U WONT R TROOPS TO DIE U SELFISH HORE??!'

peterlon1 · 03/04/2020 16:43

Well I can only peak for myself but don't get out much, so shopping is rare now, but I appreciate you making sure we get food. @Rowgtfc72 and I wish people around the rest of the country were acting normalish instead of complete arseholes

peterlon1 · 03/04/2020 16:47

one of the first things you are told a Uni, is it is a job you wanted to do and get paid to do and no too bad either, you dot not accept gratuities from your clients under any circumstances. and that is how nurses view the world and their jobs.

Rowgtfc72 · 03/04/2020 16:48

I think because a lot of us do the 2m thing at work for 8 hrs a day it's just becoming second nature.
Were very fortunate that we have a relatively normal existence.
We have a very high unemployed, drug addict, alcoholic community. I'm assuming they're too oblivious to go out.

welldonejean · 03/04/2020 16:57

"Christ. It's just like the poppy fascists."

Yup, I choose not to wear a poppy and get some ignorant, you don't respect the war dead crap about it. I do respect them, I have relatives who died serving in WW2, but I'm also from N.I. and therefore do not wish to give anything to military charity because of my experiences there, and because of the murders carried out by British soldiers.
I can respect my GPs memories with out wearing a bloody poppy, just as I can respect the NHS regardless of whether or not I clap at 8pm.
I did clap as it happens, but more importantly I didn't vote for the bastarding Tory party.

Knowhowufeel2 · 03/04/2020 17:00

@TealWater, there are often petitions, etc, about getting fireworks limited to certain times of the year with just qualified people at official displays and banning the sale of them to the public, but it never gets anywhere.

The government do respond to these petitions, but always say the laws already in place are enough (which do limit it to certain times, etc).

They are not

The problem is, it's impossible to enforce especially when you can't always tell exactly where they're coming from. Also, the local councils aren't interested in enforcing it anyway.

I'd even just appreciate it being strictly limited to a few nights a year, but the problem is they start earlier every year and finish later, so instead of fireworks just on the 5th of November, people around here start late October and it goes on until mid November, if not longer.

Some nights they were still setting them off past 1am. I have a dog that's terrified, and while I could sedate him for 1 night a few times a year, the way it is around here, he'd be almost permanently sedated for about half the year.

jrb123 · 03/04/2020 17:00

So glad I live in a remote rural area and don't have to worry about ghastly neighbours naming and shaming.

Weirdomagnet · 03/04/2020 17:01

pictish

“Hi Prick. It’s of you rude to name me along with others on this discussion. Please don’t send me a reminder next week. I’m not answerable to you so it’s inappropriate for you to designate yourself in this role. Thanks. Estuary.”

Polite, factual and short. Unapologetic

Oh but please do keep Prick.

peterlon1 · 03/04/2020 17:03

can we stick to the issue ppl doesn't matter about parties. this is about a little Hitler, one of thousand that have appeared up and down the fucking country expecting ppl to do this or that or I am going to tell on you if you do that?

BBCONEANDTWO · 03/04/2020 17:03

Ha ha - she's a total idiot

peterlon1 · 03/04/2020 17:06

WTF now we have moved onto firework????????

SistineScreamer · 03/04/2020 17:09

"You okay hun???" - is an appropriate response here. Grin

Tryingtobeagoodmommy · 03/04/2020 17:14

Bloody hell! Leave the group

TabbyMumz · 03/04/2020 17:28

How does she know you werent in your back garden? I stood in my back garden rather than the front on the first week and clapped there. I could hear the neighbours in the town near to us, better from there.

Namechange4nowt45 · 03/04/2020 17:35

Yanbu tell her to f#ck off how dare they mean girl you!!! This kind of happens last week, I shut her down by saying i was busy considering my daughter had just been discharged from hospital, we found her not breathing and blue on the Monday morning and we had her home on Wednesday so were wrapping ourselves around her shes cerebral palsy and full time care and more so now. I was like are you on glue are you f#cking serious I was busy with the most important lady in my life so no I forgot to shout and scream. Some people are knobbers op. Give her a good telling and say you're no longer in a mean girl group at high school

MrsDesireeCarthorse · 03/04/2020 17:35

I don't clap because I don't want to. Luckily I also am not interested in what my neighbours think.

PicturesOfCats · 03/04/2020 17:43

Next week don’t go out to clap, but just add lines and lines of clapping on the group starting at 8.
Just lines and lines of them 😂
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

rwalker · 03/04/2020 17:43

Quite a few friends in NHS they loved and were moved by last weeks .To make it weekly they think it's pointless and dilutes the meaning

Griselda1 · 03/04/2020 17:44

Leave the group

1forsorrow · 03/04/2020 17:45

WTF now we have moved onto firework Wonder how they will top it next week. We'll be on to nuclear explosions before you know it and then covid will be the least of our worries.

CalamityShame · 03/04/2020 17:58

We'll be on to nuclear explosions before you know it and then covid will be the least of our worries

Grin

To be fair, a nuke probably be a fairly good solution to covid19...

CalamityShame · 03/04/2020 18:00

'SET OFF NUKES TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE NHS'

'If you're only banging a pan then you don't really care that much eh hun? Put some effort in like the rest of us!'
