I’ve been named and ‘shamed’

Admittedly it’s only on our local WhatsApp group...

Opened it this morning and there’s a message from a ‘founder’ member of the group.

“Me, hubs and the kids were out last night making lots of noise for our NHS heroes. Disappointed to see that some of this group don’t care enough to give up 2 minutes of their time!!! Maybe you forgot..(then a list of names including mine). Will be sending you a reminder next week!!”

I know she’s a twat but I’m fuming. I’m not going to dignify it with a reply because she and her little crew of followers love a public war. I’m just going to ignore her but if she thinks she’s forcing me out next week she’s got another bloody think coming.

Tbh if I wasn’t on lockdown I wouldn’t even give it 2 thoughts but I’m winding myself up about it now!

AIBU to think that clapping is not compulsory and nobody else’s business?

She tries to make out she's charitable and community minded but was outed last week for selling hand sanitizer for 5x the price on EBay!
Omg! How was she caught? What was her reaction? Shock

WatcherintheRye · 03/04/2020 11:26

You're so right Chilli. It's very sobering.
A friend's lovely mother (long since passed away) was in the Hitler Youth as a teenager, because if you didn't join, you didn't love Germany, with all that that implied.

I'm in no way comparing clapping for the NHS to e.g. joining the Hitler Youth btw, but the shaming by some people of others who don't clap - if you're not with us, then you're against us - is very similar to the mob mentality that gets people to do things they don't necessarily feel altogether comfortable with, and gives free rein to those who feel only too comfortable.......

HopingItsNot · 03/04/2020 11:27

The mob mentality is in full swing. Scary.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/04/2020 11:29

She reminds me of the many idiots who took part in the Ice-Bucket Challenge for ALS, but instead of using it as part of a wider fund-raising effort for the charity and getting people to sponsor them for doing it, they somehow genuinely thought that they were 'supporting' ALS just by getting somebody to film them doing it and then uploading it to social media - and boasted of just how much they'd 'helped' the charity that they hadn't even thought to namecheck and hadn't even heard of, much less raise money for.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 03/04/2020 11:30

Just RTFT and saw this:

Several others have replied with FGS and ‘don’t be so ridiculous’ and one other named has added a ‘Go fuck yourself’

Hooray! Cake for those group members.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 03/04/2020 11:31

That is fucking nonsense. What an utter cheek.

Astressie · 03/04/2020 11:32

I didn't go out last night. But of course I appreciate the NHS and everyone that is carrying on doing their jobs regardless of this madness. We didn't go out because compared to others we are new to our road and they all hate us. This is due to minor indiscretions with their parking rules not legal rules but their own made up rules that only work for them. Pretty petty considering, but couldn't bare being ignored while the rest talk to each other. The current situation highlights how pathetic these things are!!

MarginalGain · 03/04/2020 11:33

Hang on OP, did someone really tell her to go fuck herself?

YAY!

FuckPolitenessSSDGM · 03/04/2020 11:33

This thread has made my morning Grin.

Reginabambina · 03/04/2020 11:34

But OP, the NHS is the national religion! Not clapping is the equivalent of failing to attend mass in 15th century Rome. Do you want to be proclaimed a heretic and burned at the stake? You’d better put up a thank you NHS meme of Facebook straight away!

Tellmetruth4 · 03/04/2020 11:35

FFS is forced NHS clapping the new Poppy shaming?

I can guarantee it’s the same bullies involved too.

YouTheCat · 03/04/2020 11:36

I'm so glad I live on a street that doesn't go in for this shittery.

I'm doing my bit by staying at home as much as possible and not panic buying.

Triplesevenlife · 03/04/2020 11:37

I would reply to say something along the lines of what did the clapping police say when you reported it to them

rootsonshow · 03/04/2020 11:37

I went out to clap again last night because my daughter is a nurse so I was clapping for her.
There is a bloke across the road banging a pan with a ladle as loud as he could for a long time.
I suspect that this is only because the pubs are shut because that is where he usually is with his mates, he actually looked like he thought everyone was clapping his pan banging.
The fireworks upset my dogs, all very expensive and would be better donating the money to the national health.

Laserbird16 · 03/04/2020 11:38

Do you have a bell? I'd be tempted to get your other sinners and lead a chant of Shame! on your doorsteps. That'll make sure sister Unella knows you repent Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/04/2020 11:40

FFS is forced NHS clapping the new Poppy shaming?

That reminds me of a Jack Whitehall joke:
"I really wanted to get on board with the anti-bullying campaign, so I went out and bought myself one of the special wristbands. Well I didn't actually buy it - I forced a fat, spotty, ginger kid to give me his!"

rootsonshow · 03/04/2020 11:40

Sorry about my grammer. I have crawled out of my kitchen cupboards to post because I am so pissed off

HollySideEyes · 03/04/2020 11:41

More than half of people have lower intelligence.

As we saw with Brexit.

As we saw with the last election.

And as we are seeing right now from the dimmer than dim.

Onceuponatimethen · 03/04/2020 11:42

I get that it’s nice to show support for nhs but the timing is terrible for bedtime in our house and I was trying to get little kids to sleep not on the street clapping.

Who do these people think they are?!!

nornironrock · 03/04/2020 11:43

She refers to her husband as "hubs". You can safely ignore anything she says.

Twat.

Kateg1982 · 03/04/2020 11:44

Wow this crisis has really brought out the curtain twitchers! She probably judges people in the supermarket for buying their ‘non essential’ crunchy nut cornflakes too 🙄

SpillTheTea · 03/04/2020 11:45

She's certainly embarrassed herself. Hopefully she's pulled her head out of her arse after those comments.

SausageCrush · 03/04/2020 11:45

I deliberately didn't do it last night.

The first time was spontaneous, but this was a bit forced.

I also read a post on another thread from a nurse who said she wasn't doing it because her work place was quieter than ever and the staff had nothing to do!

FazakAli · 03/04/2020 11:46

Ask her how much she is selling hand sanitizer for since she sold it for £££ on ebay.

Kuponut · 03/04/2020 11:47

The twat who parked outside blaring the tits off his car horn and the saucepan brigade woke my kids up (they’d just gone to sleep) absolutely bloody terrified. They’re anxious enough at the moment with the situation and changes to their world (I suspect DD1 has ASD so she doesn’t do well with change) - so to suddenly hear horns blaring and banging all over really freaked them out.

The week before we’d had a few claps which were fine and didn’t bother the kids - but this week it seems to have become much more of a socially forced thing as a whole (possibly as we’ve progressed from grocery-shaming and counting how many times Dave in number 6 walks the dog).
