To think the talk of so many NHS clappers is mostly down and out lies?

I missed it last time but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Until Tonight. I listened closely outside at 8 and did not hear a single clap in my area. Also, on Channel 4 news it was showing people clapping and it was literally only a few people clapping, very unenthusiastically and slowly and even sarcastically, I hasten to add. I’m not saying it’s not a “thing” but to claim it’s all “up and down the country” no it’s not, loads of people don’t give a damn. I wonder at all the stories shared by MNers about entire streets coming out to clap and wonder where they live where this happens as everyone that replies seem to agree

About two thirds of my street were out and I could hear fireworks as well

IndieTara · 02/04/2020 20:23

Lots out clapping on my road in Solihull plus bells and fireworks too

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 02/04/2020 20:23

We had the full street again. Our lone vicar rang the church bell too

Darbs76 · 02/04/2020 20:23

@madambee - I thought it was an odd choice of song to play. Maybe they only know that one!

SarahInAccounts · 02/04/2020 20:23

Nothing here. We're a bit uptight and British around here. But we do appreciate the NHS just not showy about it.

PeterFoggsTractor · 02/04/2020 20:24

Why on earth are idiots letting off fireworks? So many animals are terrified of them. Completely unnecessary, whatever you think of the clapping.

MrsCat1 · 02/04/2020 20:24

All neighbours out in my London Street. Clapping and banging saucepans. My DD works in the NHS and felt moved by it.

bobstersmum · 02/04/2020 20:24

So you went to the door to listen op, but didn't clap? Because if you clapped you wouldn't have been able to hear the others?
We are in North East on a relatively quiet road not overlooked but it was loud with clapping and cheering, we all stood and clapped, it was really emotional.

ScarlettBlaize · 02/04/2020 20:24

Loads of the cunts here in London.

JassyRadlett · 02/04/2020 20:25

Echoed around the streets here in my bit of very SW London. Someone set off fireworks too. Lasted for a good 5 minutes and a real sense of community.

I wouldn’t have called us a very community-oriented area so it was wonderful to stand together like this.

isseywith4vampirecats · 02/04/2020 20:25

lots more in my street this week than last week almost every house either in front of their houses or through windows

Lockdownloony · 02/04/2020 20:25

Saucepans, fireworks, the lot here.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 02/04/2020 20:25

My Street was fairly quiet but the houses are spread apart so you can’t see your neighbours as easily. I was walking my dog and didn’t get back to my own street in time so was having to walk down the street round the corner. They were giving it laldi with pots and pans and cheering. Kids in pjs in their gardens. My dog joining in with a few barks of appreciation for key working dogs

bluebell94 · 02/04/2020 20:25

Loads here, most houses had people on their doorstep clapping and then stood outside for 5 mins having a catch up across the road! I thought it was very nice and lovely to see everyone out and looking well

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 02/04/2020 20:25

Lots here in SE London. From both other street and the surrounding streets

Noflora · 02/04/2020 20:26

Missed it last week but our town was pretty noisy at 8pm.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 02/04/2020 20:26

I heard one guy clapping and a few people shouting, I actually forgot about that and only this thread has made me realise what it was. I was putting the bins out that's the onky reason I heard it. Things like that wear thin very quickly with people.
A couple of NHS workers on MN said they just find it a bit cringey.

Michelleoftheresistance · 02/04/2020 20:26

Much bigger this week than last. Almost every house in sight had someone come out.

After a couple of weeks of none of us seeing each other or talking to each other (and I have lovely neighbours) it was actually lovely in itself to do something together and have some contact, even if it was joining in with something from windows and doorways.

Namebot · 02/04/2020 20:26

Everybody was clapping, cheering and one of the neighbours played “Scotland the Brave” on his bag pipes which was amazing.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 02/04/2020 20:26

Loads of noise here- whistles, clapping, people banging pots, car horns even a few fireworks. Nice to hear all the neighbours even if we can't see them.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 02/04/2020 20:27

I think the Last Post would have given me the nervous giggles Blush

JKScot4 · 02/04/2020 20:27

Utter twats out with pots, playing the pipes and fireworks in our area. God help any shift workers trying to sleep. I did comment on our community group and got called a moaner and disrespectful!!
It’s a bit like public mounting in the competitiveness.

willowpatterns · 02/04/2020 20:28

Somebody let off a firework somewhere up the road, the sound of which served only to remind us that we'd forgotten and were missing it again. Aside from that, it was total silence.

JKScot4 · 02/04/2020 20:28

mourning not mounting

TheUndo · 02/04/2020 20:28

My dog joining in with a few barks of appreciation for key working dogs

Lol
