To think the talk of so many NHS clappers is mostly down and out lies?

I missed it last time but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Until Tonight. I listened closely outside at 8 and did not hear a single clap in my area. Also, on Channel 4 news it was showing people clapping and it was literally only a few people clapping, very unenthusiastically and slowly and even sarcastically, I hasten to add. I’m not saying it’s not a “thing” but to claim it’s all “up and down the country” no it’s not, loads of people don’t give a damn. I wonder at all the stories shared by MNers about entire streets coming out to clap and wonder where they live where this happens as everyone that replies seem to agree

Feels like there are loads of threads on this clapping thing. Maybe it should get its own section.

Lozz22 · 02/04/2020 20:18

I missed last week. In bed poorly with a migraine but tonight I'm working (Carer) and just came home in time for a quick break. Fair few of us on my road clapping. Hotel and house opposite we're out and more up the road. Got quite choked up. Although I did feel a bit silly stood by myself on my side of the road clapping

wlv12 · 02/04/2020 20:18

We had loads of people out, cheering, clapping, banging pots and pans, fireworks

Candyfloss99 · 02/04/2020 20:18

Well it happened here on a rural road in Northern Ireland.

Batshittery · 02/04/2020 20:18

Yep. Loads on the road where I live. I could hear that someone was banging a pan or similar. I didn't expect it tonight. I was clapping for the unsung heroes this week.

Mummyshark2018 · 02/04/2020 20:18

Very loud where I am in south east, people banging bin lids # reminiscing

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/04/2020 20:18

I'm in Cardiff - heard a couple of whoops and quite a few fireworks. I'm sure they were greatly appreciated by any NHS shift workers trying to sleep.

TheUndo · 02/04/2020 20:18

@Ffsnosexallowed

You should have gone out. In my street about 5 families were out clapping including us.

Gone out to what? I’ve already said nobody was clapping, I would have been standing on my doorstep clapping to thin air on my own.

Quite a bit of clapping and cheering around here tonight. Someone let off fireworks🙄
It is the first time I heard it, though.

There was a poster who wanted to boo the supermarkets at 8pm instead, I wonder if that caught on in her area.

TheGlaikitRambler · 02/04/2020 20:18

Friends of mine had bagpipes going as well.

bumblingbovine49 · 02/04/2020 20:19

We had a lot out last week. no one tonight

Ilovefoodnotgym · 02/04/2020 20:19

Last week most of my street was cheering, this week there were about five families. You can hear the noise in the area. Everyone I’ve spoken to has taken part. So no, I don’t think people are exaggerating.

Iggi999 · 02/04/2020 20:19

Bagpiper was playing here

stardance · 02/04/2020 20:20

From our upstairs window we can see maybe 14 other houses, I'd say at least 10 families were out clapping and you can hear loads more in the distance.

Darbs76 · 02/04/2020 20:20

Loads out in my street, someone played the last post on the trumpet and fireworks going off

dontgobaconmyheart · 02/04/2020 20:21

Nobody in my road did it today, though there were lots last time and someone let off fireworks

I don't think it makes you 'miserable' to not participate tbh, virtue signalling has never actually been a legitimate gauge of what someone thinks or does or doesn't support and there are plenty of other ways to support and appreciate the NHS people may well be doing if they didn't feel comfortable clapping etc, felt last time was sufficient, are busy or are working, like many actually still are.

Redcrayons · 02/04/2020 20:21

Everybody in my road was. There were fireworks as well.

MadameBee · 02/04/2020 20:21

The last post .... Hmm

DC10 · 02/04/2020 20:21

More out tonight in our street than last week (East Anglia). We're going to bang tin mugs next week. A lot of residents in our road are elderly and infirm but most younger/ families were out.

JasonPollack · 02/04/2020 20:22

Fucking annoying as fuck. Maybe three houses of my road but one had a fucking airhorn and woke my baby.

Plus this town overwhelmingly voted Tory. If you want to support the NHS do it at the ballot box. People are mostly congratulating themselves IMO.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 02/04/2020 20:22

All my neighbours out and chapping in Leeds.

GrimSisters · 02/04/2020 20:22

Loads out clapping in my village this evening. Load of virtue signalling claptrap in my cynical opinion. The majority of those out there voted tory and completely fail to see the disconnect.
I work in the NHS.

SueVide · 02/04/2020 20:22

Lots of clapping here in S. London. Our whole street was out again. We saw some fireworks from a few streets away too.

Wineislifex · 02/04/2020 20:22

Loud here in the NE 👏🏻

laudete · 02/04/2020 20:22

Lots in my neighbourhood - tonight and last week.
