To think the talk of so many NHS clappers is mostly down and out lies?

I missed it last time but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Until Tonight. I listened closely outside at 8 and did not hear a single clap in my area. Also, on Channel 4 news it was showing people clapping and it was literally only a few people clapping, very unenthusiastically and slowly and even sarcastically, I hasten to add. I’m not saying it’s not a “thing” but to claim it’s all “up and down the country” no it’s not, loads of people don’t give a damn. I wonder at all the stories shared by MNers about entire streets coming out to clap and wonder where they live where this happens as everyone that replies seem to agree

OP posts:

I think our street was out. I wasn't because I am not feeling well so not going to stand there in a cold.
God we will be THAT house, won't we

Snowman123 · 02/04/2020 21:04

Just because you don't clap doesn't mean you don't appreciate the hard work being done by many sectors all over the country.

NewYearNewJob123 · 02/04/2020 21:04

It doesn't matter if its 'more acceptable' or not depending on where someone lives. Your OP was that reports of people engaging in it was 'lies' and 'claiming it's up and down the country- it's not' based on the few streets around you.

Same as people posting 'everyones carrying on as normal, streets full of kids, everyone stopping to chat in the street' and suggesting that's how it is everywhere and that's why they want a full lockdown.

It's not everywhere. There's a massive country that the few streets around where you live is not an accurate representation of. It's a snapshot of your streets, that's all.

Its was fantastic up here in Northumberland. The whole estate appeared to be out cheering and clapping. Horns beeping, bells ringing,, drums banging.

It was very emotional.

MadameJosephine · 02/04/2020 21:06

Loads here in the north east and more than last week too, I heard it inside the house and realised it must be 8 o’clock. Before it happened last week I thought it was a bit naff to be honest but it really does make me feel better. I cried in the car on the way to work this morning and have had a tough day trying to keep a lid on my anxiety and it really lifted my spirits to hear all my neighbours clapping and cheering

Isithometimeyet0987 · 02/04/2020 21:06

I live in London and it was very loud here fireworks and all going off.

PeachesAndPops · 02/04/2020 21:06

Sounded to me like most of the village was clapping here in County Durham. Last week someone let off fireworks.

Songofsixpence · 02/04/2020 21:08

Loads out in my area too. Lots of clapping, cheering, people banging saucepans with wooden spoons. Even boats out on the Solent were sounding their horns

littlemixarerubbish · 02/04/2020 21:08

No fireworks like last week but there were definitely a lot of people out on my street, plus cars beeping on the main road.

ShellsAndSunrises · 02/04/2020 21:09

It doesn’t happen where I am. I have no idea why... but nothing, on either day. I wonder if proximity to a hospital matters? Ours are a decent distance away. Or community feel? Although people here tend to be fairly friendly most of the time...

Iwannabeadored20 · 02/04/2020 21:11

Loads in London

Wishihadanalgorithm · 02/04/2020 21:12

Us and one other family were out from right down the street were out. Two and three doors Down are doctors so it would be maybe odd to clap for themselves?

bookworm14 · 02/04/2020 21:12

Very loud on my street tonight (NW London).

Fishcakey · 02/04/2020 21:13

I didn't hear anything.

Mother87 · 02/04/2020 21:13

Much quieter here than last week... We got quite a few car beeps thoughGrin

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 02/04/2020 21:13

Every house that I could see in my road had someone out and clapping...

AmelieTaylor · 02/04/2020 21:16

MC SE area here, not exactly renounce for its Uber friendliness.

Lots out again tonight.

EwwSprouts · 02/04/2020 21:17

Fewer spoons & pans this week but all nearest neighbours were clapping.

MillicentMartha · 02/04/2020 21:18

At least 2/3rds in my street of 70 odd houses, pots and pans but mostly applauding. It was lovely, first time I’ve seen some of my neighbours for weeks. I don’t know if it’s appreciated but it’s a nice thing to do.

I have never voted Tory in my life, I’m sure some of my neighbours do but I hope this transcends party politics. Hoping some of them think again next election.

SquigglePigs · 02/04/2020 21:19

We had 4 houses outside out of 9 but the next street was so loud with music and fireworks it was a bit crazy!

yelyah22 · 02/04/2020 21:20

I missed it last week (and am poorly - not C19) so didn't join in tonight, but when I looked out the window at 8 I'd say 60-70% of our street were out!

Roominmyhouse · 02/04/2020 21:20

I live quite near the hospital in our town, there was cheering, clapping, cow bells and fireworks.

Greenpop21 · 02/04/2020 21:21

Lots last week, twice as many this week. Heartwarming.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 02/04/2020 21:21

*You're a virtue signalling cunt if you do the loud stuff.

Or indeed, any of the stuff. Bonus VSC points if you then post about it on social media.
It's quite refreshing to feel such pure hatred in this confusing time*

I'm with you. I've currently lent some of my staff to the NHS and indeed myself. It's cringey and insincere and the vast majority of the people doing it don't actually give a shit about the NHS or it's staff normally. And don't get me started on Tory virtue signallers.

Skeeter2020 · 02/04/2020 21:23

Loads did it on our road and surrounding area
